If you think the rep system is crap, why are you handing out rate-downs?

I guess it didn't occur to you that most of us asking for rate-ups are doing it for the irony of asking for rate-ups in a "zomg teh rating systemz!" thread. I was tongue-in-cheek serious at best, which was why I was actually surprised to come back and find I'd gotten rate-ups... and a shiny rate-down from you, who apparently thought I didn't bother to read your post.

Hell, I even mocked the rate-up system in the post you rated me down for. Either way, do lighten up.

Well sure I use the rep system all the time, but it doesn't have any effect on me. I assume everyone else doesn't care about it either so I give rate-downs most of the time as opposed to rate-ups to show that - as a way of mocking the rep system. I give rate-downs to friends too, because it's funny.

Sometimes I just give rate-downs or ups to show how I feel about a post, but only if the post is extremely good or bad. Just because I use the rep system like that though doesn't mean I think your dot count matters. I give those reps to show how I feel, not to lower or raise someone's rep#.
