as my time at school winded down i was faced with a tough decision...i could go back for more education, or i could get a full time job.

i decided that a full time job would be better suited for me since getting a degree in a specific area of Information Technology would be silly of me if i couldnt get a job in said area

about a week ago i applied for a job at Time Warner Cable and this past monday i had my interview and earlier today i got a call from HR offering me the job =))

in a few weeks i will be an employee of Time Warner Cable buffalo division =)

Congrats on the new job!!

Congrats.

Now do me a favor and tell them to work on upload speed here in Maine. It is ridiculous that we can't get more then 500k upload but I can get 9M download. I know you can't really do anything about this but TWC took over here after Adelphia decided to pull and Enron.

Are you going to be moving here, or do yu currently live here.

Delite

ahhh cheektavegas.

I have been living in Town of Tonawanda my whole life.

Congrats on getting a job with Time Warner. Can you get me some free internet and cable?

Entry level Resume Solidifiers = Education = Certifications.

But if you need money first.... job always comes first.

Me and a lot of people I know choose career path over higher studies.

None of us regret it. Hold on to your job and you'll be happy.

Congratulations!!!

Hmm, correct me if im wrong, but I could had sworn Higher education=more job opportunities, more money.

You're on the bandwagon.

The most successful people I personally know dragged through college and half assed it the whole way like I did. There are plenty of opportunities out there that do not require a secondary degree. I wouldn't even say the chances of landing a job are "better" I would break it 50/50 honestly.

"College degree = Better opportunity" is old and cliche.

Anyone with a developed career will tell you being lucky, knowing the right people and standing out plays a big role.

A college degree will help you out if you're just starting your career, there's no question about that. However, if you have a fair amount of experience in the field you're trying to pursue, and you list your accomplishments in that field on your resume, most employers will just skim over the degree.

College is good to help establish the basics of the field you want to enter, but nothing you learn in school can teach you what real-world experience will. If you're fortunate enough to get a chance to get that experience, you're in good shape. But as a fair warning, if you have equal experience to another potential employee, but they have a degree...they'll most likely be the one to get the position.
