A tale of two consoles

Sure I can. But you didn't answer my question. Are you complaining about tech or content issues with Wii software? As they imply different meanings of the phrase quality control. ONE of which is on topic, the other you seem to be talking about.

I love how QCDN can turn into this stuff somtimes.

I look at it a certain way. Regardless of the craptastic games that seem to be crowding the shelves of the Wii section of your favorite gamestore, I have heard and read far less complaints about the actual integrity of the Wii system itself. Consoles always get thier share of crappy games, look at the PS2 for gods sakes. There is a bunch of retarded stuff for that system. Wii seems stuck in a mode of creating games that are not that substantial, yet take advantage of the unique contrals.

System wise though, it seems like Microsoft and Sony have really slacked on the QC for the systems themselves. Anytime you create a tech based product, some of them will not work and that I can forgive. 360's with shitty power supplies, PS3's that all the sudden stop reading things(hello "Disc Read error" seems like they would have fixed this since 2002) and the multitude of other problems people encounter are the proof. Imagine Ford putting out a car that they had to come back to months later and extend the warranty on most models because of technical failure. Thats what we are talking about.

Add this to the fact that the Wii is the cheepest one, and you can really see that there is an internal process problem, or general lack of caring on the part of MS and Sony

It could also be because there is less to screw up on the Wii. The console itself it so basic it would have been embarrassing for Nintendo to fuck it up. I think there are cellphones more powerful than the Wii.

I had no idea there were so many people with ps3 problems until I had my own and started hitting forums. It still doesn't seem as widespread, but the fact that it is there at all is annoying. The 360 kinda rushed out the door, and it was punished with red rings and disc read errors galore. The ps3 had more time, and it still couldn't get its act together.

I agree with everyone who said they think it was a QC issue. It just feels like quality took a backseat this round.

In related, less depressing news, UPS.com says my PS3 is "out for delivery." Ordered the service on Tuesday last week, got and shipped out the box on Thursday, and got it back the following Thursday. Not too bad, I guess.

It's true that the more complicated something is, the more likely it is to mess up; but that's really not happening with the consoles here. Microsoft had a problem with their power supply, Sony with their disc reading hardware, all pretty basic stuff considering the technology. The problem isn't with the cell processor, or whatever Microsoft calls their CPU/GPU.

Another thing would be the Wiimote, it's the most advanced console controller ever and people were throwing it through walls/windows/TV's and the Wiimote would often be fine. Hell, the wiimote even held off the first attempt to be blended in a "will it blend" radio special. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IevMrQMp-to

The Wii is a much more basic machine(except the controller), but Nintendo has always had a reputation for high quality when it came to their hardware. Even if they made a console with the power of the PS3 and the graphics of the 360, I'd imagine their quality control would still be higher than Sony/Microsoft just because of their history with great QC.

Ehhhhh, I beg to differ. What exactly sets it aside from the gun used in Duck Hunt, wireless technology and speakers aside, or any lightgun product? Nothin', absolutely nothin'.

And? I never said that it had new technology never seen before; I said it was the most advanced controller. It has the most features, and the best motion controlling sensors of any controller, therefore it's the most advanced.

If not the Wiimote, what would you say is the most advanced controller?

I get it, opinions are okay for basis of advancement in your world, cool deal. I was actually thinkin' you meant advancement in the real meanin', you know, to improve upon somethin'. I'll tell you what they surely didn't improve on, comfort. Then again' it's probably the most comfortable controller you've ever had the pleasure of usin'.

Don't know, they've all been done before (except for what I'm about use as an example). However, what you're doin' to the Wii mote could just as easily be done for the Xbox controllers when they even lack motion controls and some kind of art expression build. Not only did Microsoft choose to go with a normal, comfortable feel, but they have a communications port built in.

There's no opinion in there. The Wiimote has the most features on it, and the most advanced motion sensors of any controller. It's up against the equivalent of a tilt sensor and nothing.

360 Controller:
analog sticks
buttons
headset port
rumble

PS3 Controller:
analog sticks
buttons
6-axis tilt sensor
rumble(dual shock 3 only)

Wiimote/nunchuck:
analog stick
buttons
Accelerometer motion sensors
speaker
light sensor
rumble

More things on their list = more features. That's called fact, maybe you should look that up while you're looking up the word advanced.

I was actually thinkin' you meant advancement in the real meanin', you know, to improve upon somethin'.
The Wiimote is an improvement for some types of games. FPS, point and click and sports games. For other games, it's pretty much the same as the PS3/360 controller, only your hands aren't forced to be locked together.

I'll tell you what they surely didn't improve on, comfort.
Finally, an opinion. I don't have any comfort issues with the controller.

Then again' it's probably the most comfortable controller you've ever had the pleasure of usin'.
Wait, what? I have no idea where you're trying to go with this.

Don't know
Come back when you have an idea then.

No, it couldn't. The only thing remotely unique about the 360 controller is the headset port, and that's only because they didn't use blue tooth like the PS3 did.

Instead of pickin' you apart for your uber nerd rage and further crappin' on a thread I'll make it quick and simple for you, Nintendawg. More features doesn't make somethin' more advanced. Something has to be BETTER than somethin' to be more advanced. I could bolt a magazine holder to a fishin' pole so when you're holdin' your line you can look at bush instead of a bobber. That doesn't mean I made a more advanced fishin' pole, I just made an added feature.

Update:

So I turned my refurbished PS3 on yesterday and it was whisper quiet, like a kitten sleeping on a cloud. My old PS3 was louder than a tractor riding another tractor, so now I'm starting to think there was something seriously wrong with it.

Everything works, though, and it didn't take as long to re-download everything as I thought it would. I have to go out of town to visit my stupid girlfriend's family, so even though my ps3 made it back to me in time for Resident Evil 5, I won't get to play it until Sunday night. Super lame.

Also, this:

is hilarious.

Glad you got it back man. Sounds like it was not too painful.

It really wasn't too bad. Their phone customer service is brutal to deal with, so I just applied for the repair online and didn't have to deal with anyone directly.

Next time you're not going to read something just because it proves you wrong, just man up and say it; or at least cover it with a tl;dr. Don't just dodge the whole thing and claim it's "nerd rage" when someone proves you wrong.

Why? Seriously, I'm not sure what he's trying to go for with that line.

saying its a more comfortable controller to use is saying that my tv remote is a better/more comfortable controller than the stock controller for whatever system i/you may use

When you finally get that, my comfort disclaimer, then I'll -consider- the below quote. Also, it has nothin' to do with bein' gay, I haven't even considered that route. I bet Pasquale didn't either, but I like where you're goin' with it.

Until then.

So because the PS3 is better at pushing polygons than the Wii, it's more advanced, but because the Wii has better motion controls than the PS3, it's not more advanced?

Strid has presented us with a paradox.

How do you feel about HDR lighting vs. Bloom lighting? HDR is better, therefor is "more advanced," but they're both features for 3D Lighting. Does that nullify the fact that both of them are advancement over normal lightmapping?

Then what? The only other angle I could get would be that you're implying that the only console I've played on is the Wii; which is an even more stupid and baseless implication than the gay one.

This is still a smokescreen though, you're focusing on the only thing that I didn't get, ignoring the rest where I was correct; for something that's likely just a insult blip with no substance.

In order to get to the third grade, you must pass the second grade. That's how it is. What you're not gettin' is so simple you could invent an item to save the planet from big red buttons and people would still wonder about you. Until you get it, don't even worry about me. All that aside, as far as your "correctness" is concerned, you were only correct in your opinion, which isn't correct outside of your opinion unless someone else chooses to accept that.

Tip: It wasn't an insult, get over that.
