A tale of two consoles

Yeah, but shouldn't a split off still be considered an advancement? It's not really sideways progress as much as forked progress. Aren't steps towards a buttonless interface still advancement? Their execution might not be this gigantic leap, but the progress towards the eventual goal is still there.

Take NASA for example. The goal was to land on the moon. Does that mean the manned orbital flights weren't advancement because they weren't moon landings?

And Strid, I was getting at that what you consider advancement contradicts what you also don't consider advancement.

If you feel that the Wii mote moves closer to the buttonless interface than previous control schemes, sure. As a concept, it moves in that direction, absolutely. As technology, I'm not positive where that goes. Can motion sensing technology bring us towards a true virtual reality experience? Maybe there will be a primitive VR system that has some sort of gloves you use, and those gloves will be in reality an advanced relative of the wii mote. But I am not sure this will be the case.

I'm thinking the idea will be to trick your brain into thinking it's sending signals to your muscles but instead send signals to this input device. Though maybe this is much further off than the technology that can create the simulated environment... because of the danger of intercepting brain signals and the possibility this machine could malfunction and stop the signal from your brain to your heart to keep beating. It wouldn't take this happening many times for that to create a panic. I'd imagine if that happened to one in a million people there would be a shitstorm, even if it was statistically safer than driving to the store to get it, due to the weirdness of the way it could kill you.

Where did you get Rebellion out of this? The Industrial Revolution wasn't rebellious either.

I dunno how you can see a Gothic type change as not a rebellion, it pretty much stands for rebellion. Much like any other style. The Industrial Revolution was truly revolutionary. I said most rebellious acts aren't to be held accountable for a true revolution, meanin' most things that are revolutionary are not rebellious.

Because it's an advancement despite all the "NO IT ISN'T!" and terrible comparisons going on. If it isn't an advancement in a direction you favor or even care about, or isn't heralded as a life changing evolution, that doesn't nullify it from being an advancement. Baby steps are still progress. Even new uses for old concepts are still advancements.

Baby steps towards what though? I don't see anything here. It's not doin' somethin' totally new, just different. Maybe if you could understand how relative this is to my Gothic deal you'd understand. You seem to be "no it isn't" in that department. I like your NASA example, it's a good example usin' baby steps, but what is the Wiimote a baby step toward? You said somethin' in an earlier post about a buttonless interface, I don't see that and if that's what they are goin' for, they did it terribly.

Though I can't find the words to properly explain this I'll try it anyway. Maybe you can get it, maybe not. From my standpoint, I can't call the Wiimote the most advanced controller yet because it hasn't shown us anything that it has done for the future of gamin'. However, in the coming years if somethin' spawns off of it that would have been asinine prior to the Wiimote I'll sing a different tune for it. With NASA the ordeal was more cut and dry, with the Wiimote it's a tbd type thing, for me at least. So in short, I'm not sayin' it doesn't have potential to spawn some kind if miracle but right now it hasn't been anything of a shocker especially if we take this argument out of the console realm. If you think about it, it's a lot like this: Who'd have thought when movie theaters first came about that many, many years later you could watch a movie in 3D at an Imax theater.

"Rebel" as search term(So it's any word containing "rebel," including "rebellion") only comes up once.

Punk is the rebellious subculture.

There are a plenty of games on the Wii that can be played without buttons, or at the very most, a single one(not counting starting it up.) Just because a developer chooses not to develop a game that makes use of the ability to have a buttonless interface doesn't mean the possibility doesn't exist. Which is no more a fault of Nintendo as it is to Sony or Microsoft for a developer not having multiplayer in their game.

You're lookin' in the wrong place. Wikipedia can't tell you what's in someones head, why they do something, or any of the sort. It can only define a certain line. If you think definin' a personal reaction/emotion can be left up to a Wiki then we need say no more. Punk isn't the rebellious subculture, btw, it's -a- rebellious subculture and not all "Punks" are rebellious either, same with Goths. I'll say one more thing, if you're lookin' at the culture of a whole you're not gettin' it at all. Think micro not macro. Not that it really matters, you've seen to have gotten the point whether you talk about it or not, goin' off of your focus now.

If that's all you had for buttonless interface I see your fetch and raise you Duck Hunt, Time Crisis, and most any other game that used a light gun/gun type controller. I was hoping for somethin' a bit deeper than that, something I may have overlooked. Considerin' the buttons though, I had a feelin' it would go this way.

If you want to bolster anything about the Wii, it'd be much better stickin' to motion sensorin', but I'm not sure how much the controller actually has to do with that, in consideration to the console itself, so I can see the problem there.

Shall we say our peace in this thread now?

Hey, it's your terrible comparison, not mine. I never mentioned Goth Kids as being revolutionary, just the subculture.

Alright. Then Wiimote is an advancement over Lightguns because of the change from photodetection based technology to IR triangulation with gyroscopic and accelerometer detection. Complete without the need for any of it's buttons to operate those functions, outside of turning it on.

Shall we say our peace in this thread now?

Sure, whatever.
