A Technical Question...

What most should do

Ok , First of all make sure you have the latest drivers, direct X updated.. etc.
Second go into your FFXI Config (out of game), Make Texture Compression to Low and On-screen Maps to Compressed, also under Effects.. Turn Environmental Animation Off.
Ingame - Adjust your Clipping to Half, and View of How many People on the screen off, Turn Shadows off..
Tweaking your Chat and Graphic Filters (both under config), will also help improve Framerate at a cost.

=System
Every time you boot (and your desktop has loaded) , press CTRL + ALT + Delete.. and terminate any processes that really arent necessary (say like antivirus) because you pressing exit on software, isnt going to make it go away.

==Scandisk, Defrag your Hard Drive when Necessary==

Use tools like Norton Utilities to remove errors in the registry

(Remembers when he played FFXI with a Geforce 3 Ti)

For a good motherboard and proccessor (not top of the notch or anything but good to run it decently) it would cost about $300 dollars. Much cheaper than a new computer. :P
