About chocobo colors

Sooo..... mating a yellow + yellow will equal a yellow, am I right? coz thats lolboring! And especially if babies color depends only on the father, thats sad for all the male-chocobo owners *cough cough*

The only thing that makes me happy bout my retarded bird is that it is substandard in strength and endurance.... lolyay

EDIT: I "lolstuff" too often
I agree anyone with a yellow male is out of luck to getting someone to breed with them. no loving for the yellow folk

I'm not so sure. Mine is yellow and had white tips during its middle phase, so that may affect the breeding results. Maybe breeding him to another white-tipped yellow would produce a pure white bird.

Color isn't 100% Heriditary, I'd assume, since nothing else is. It's all chance. Just that breeding a with a colored father will influence the color of the chick more than a yellow one.

I think you're forgeting that Yellow is neutral. It's not a conditionary color like the others. Breeding with a Black colored chocobo, the chick could still end up Blue if conditioned in the right way as well. It just has a higher chance of ending up as Black.

Well, here's what I did for my black Chocobo, maybe someone can figure it out.

Egg: Bought it from the NPC in Ru'Lude Gardens, the most expensive one he had.

Raised it in Bastok Stables, started on Sunday at 12:30am EST roughly going into Monday morning

All I ever feed it was either Gyshal Greens or Gausebit Grass when it got sick.

Everyday I took it for walks, then fed it twice for the day, my plan was always basic care except for once, when it was sick I set it to rest for one day. I would watch over it maybe once every 5 days.

In all the walks it had in childhood, it only met the Chocobo Blood being raised by the Galka.

By the time it became a teen it had the black tips, so I doubt anything you do then could change it.

My chocobo has a normal tempermant, and can get along easily with anyone.

That's it, thats all I could remember from it's childhood, I honestly think it just random, and only through breeding you'll be able to get the color you want 100%.
lucky! wish i had got a black.. oh well maybe next time. So if you can get colored with Jeuno sold egg, i wonder what benefits/features the egg dropped in ISNM battles has? (obviously i was wrong in thinking that it had to do with coloration)

has anyone notice a diffent in stats with the diffent temperature eggs? For example though that pick faintly warm have your stats raised to substandard and though that got from isnm have your stats raise higher then substandard? mine was bit warm and I raised it slightly going toward str end both are substandard.

I did not mine yet, was worried if I did not log on due to owrk mine would die or something, now I know that won't happen.

Is everyone gonna start breeding chocobos like in FF7? If so there will be alot of bastard chocobos out there not knowing their parents ; ;

What happens when you let the stables handle everything..

I stoped playing FFXI for a few months and came back. I was very curious how the choco was doing, so I headed off to Windy to take a looksee. I was stuck in Chocobo Cutscene HELL. I got a party invite while I went 1 day at a time all the way from egg to retirement. I ended up with a Yellow Choco with no whistle because i had missed the quest to get the whistle. Now near the end of retirement he was running away 2-3 times. (Poor birds going to complain to Jerry Springer) When he got sick he was back to his old self in 2 days. My poor bird was so neglected. All thru the process he was getting sick and getting better on his own. Now i have a Jerry Springer Retired bird and I'm starting all over. I'm pretty sure no one is going to want to mate with a unloved M choco. But at least now i have a standard by which to compare my next loved choco.

Wish me luck!

the egg I got from doing the quest in Juno, I ended up with.. maybe a black chocobo. I really have no idea what color to call him even though he is mature. he has ashy gray feathers with yellow around his tail feathers, on the top of his head and wings.

Maybe it effected by how much time people spend in a certain city control area? yellow=new areas black=beastman control areas red=sandy control areas blue=bastok control areas green=windy control areas. The 3 days before you egg hatch where did you spend most your time?

it has been a month now but I would say I probably spent most of my time in San'doria. I was excited about the egg and when it would hatch but then I had to read how long it would be :bb: Oh well, it was not too bad of a wait. It was all the rest of it. I know though that I gave the chocobo a lot of attention and fed him only Gyshal Greens and San'doria carrots (the effect of these are unknown as far as I know.)

Greens and vegetables aside from Zegham and Vomp Carrots only raise affection. The two carrots raise Mental and Physical stats, respectively.

I'm thinking food affects it, so I'm rather curious, what did you feed your chocobo?

When I bred my second choco I went under a “Food may effect” type thinking.

I fed my choco nothing but foods that gave a red aura when eaten. Things like Vomps, Carrot paste, and whatever green gave off that aura when I was dirt poor.

My friend Wolfeye decided to try food with only a light aura.

We both ended up with yellow choco’s. Oddly the chocos parents were yellow (female) and Black (male) The date plan was a physical one.

Sooo many variants that may be effecting it. I even started wondering if my “yellow Chocobo plaque” gave me a better chance at getting another yellow chocbo.

There's actually a fair bit of info that indicates Azouph Greens raise Mental stats, and Sharug Greens raise Physical stats. Not as much as carrots, but keeps affection higher...

Affection is no problem if you do 2x Carrots of your choice, and an Azouph Green to fill the remaining hunger. You still get the full Affection boost(Which is almost a full rank) of the Azouph, without the chance of causing stomachache.

Had my last chocobo live off that diet and Carry Packages without ever being below parent status at the end of the session.

I read there was mention that your home city also affects color. Green from Windurst, blue from Bastok and black from San d'Oria. Wondering if thats true.

Well, it's completely false. Wouldn't Red from San d'Oria make more sense anyway?

I got a red in Bastok, so I doubt that the nation you do the raising in has much, if any, influence on the color.

yes nation and food (and as far as I can tell nothing but genes randomly generated for bought eggs) determine color. I have gotten blues on mules of mine in 2 of the 3 stables and both from home nation stables and non home nation stables. Also from completely different diets.

Now that being said genetics seems to breed fairly true because my main blue breeders have so far, about 10 breedings, produced 100% blue chocobo's.

On that note I am still trying to get access to red, green, and black female cards or chocobo's to establish lines for those colors as well. I have arranged the males for each color already. Let me know if you have one and would like to help or trade for a blue set.

I got a Black fem chocobo from the jeuno dude, i raised in bastok, paid pretty good attention to it, fed it food from the npc right at the stables... nothing fancy, my friend chose same egg(slightly warm) and got green, we chose same random egg so i doubt it matters

/random

I aggree that the color is probably random but i do think that the city your in will slightly push the random-nessss towards a certain color. Only green chocos i've seen have come from windy and only red ones i've seen have come from sandy. i have a black female choco, but i got it from mating my yellow female with a black male chococard that i bought. The choco mating dude in jueno gives you options to pick when mating the chocos that will have an affect on what kind of chocobird will be born. You can push for the baby to have the color of the male or female, though its not 100%.... nothing good ever is with this game it seems ; ;
