absolutely no sex or religion in FFXI!!!

Wow, all this discussion from my question.

I just started playing the game, so you can imagine I have plenty of work ahead of me leveling up my Taru. As far as I know, Halifirien isn't gay... but I'll convert if it gives him a Mind stat bonus.

I wanted to find a LS for gay players for the social aspects. I've never been a person who felt the need to hide being gay, and I've learned sooner or later the topic always comes up. Maybe not in the game (I'm too new to know for sure), but it's always there in real life. Sooner or later someone asks you why you don't have a girlfriend or starts talking about their relationship and then wants to know about yours.

Valec's comment about sex and religion not belonging in the game is a valid opinion because those topics can cause stress and arguments and next thing you know the mandragora is grinding you to dust because you're not paying attention. I disregarded Valec's comment because I didn't think I was talking about sex. When I say "I'm gay," I'm not talking about fitting Tab A into Slot B or the mechanics of any acts. I'm just making a statement about how I relate to others and where I fit in the social scheme.

I plan to make lots of friends in the game -- gay and straight -- but a little in-game support structure for my particular minority is handy to have at times.

Good. I've been looking for a good message board ever since the Macs at work stopped properly displaying GameFAQs.
 
GameFAQs going somewhat down the drain is a bit of a bummer. I certainly now know first hand how quickly traffic can ad up, and in a way I understand his selling out to CNET, it started slowly just with ads, and at some point they made an offer one couldn't refuse.

I guess that makes sense. I'm always of the school "don't ask, don't tell, don't care." I have nothing against gay people or any of the GBLT crowd. It has no impact on me one way or another, why should I care? (I just wish more people *cough*the religious reich*cough* would think that way too.)

Sorry just found out I got flamed.
I just don't feel things like that should be open for everyone 12 and up to see. Those are adult issues and should be kept private. Sorry to offend anyone.

Off topic, but that's about the biggest bump to a thread I've ever seen, anywhere.
 
yeah...that's pretty nuts. Like the 7 month bump from hell or somethin lol.
 
Yeah. I gotta say I'm impressed by the bump. I saw it and said "Whoa." Then I had to read through it all again.

As long as we're here, I may as well update. I was in a GLBT linkshell for a little while. The leader abdicated and it eventually died from lack of membership. Then I joined Spirit of Legends and a whole new world opened up. I may revive the idea when I'm high-level enough and could devote some serious time to being a linkshell leader.

As I said before, I don't feel the need to talk about sex. Telling another player I'm gay is nowhere near giving a graphic description of the sexual mechanics involved. If you start getting images in your head when I say "I'm gay" and nothing else, there's nothing I can really do about it.

If a twelve-year-old kid's head is going to burst into flame for hearing the word "gay," then their parents shouldn't be leaving them alone on the computer. That's just asking for trouble. It's not my job to "protect the children" from concepts their parents may find disturbing.
