Might as well post this here and see input from others.

So I tried my first Abyssea today and honestly it was fun. The fact that you are able to get tags similar to that of Nyzul and runs can last up to 1.5 hours.

The mobs inside aren't that difficult, today we did Abyssea-Dem... Until we started going after the NMs. We went after a tree NM next to a bunch of saplings that proceeded to hit me(pld/nin) with almost 100 fist speed, along with the fun spamming of agas and tier 4 fun.

We came to a discussion after we all ended up ass up that there is a possibility that the NMs strength is in direct correlation to the amount of regular mobs you are able to kill. Thoughts and discussion please? (please keep it non argumentative since all discussion will probably be speculation.)

I haven't noticed NM's getting stronger the more mobs you kill.

And the normal mobs are only easy to start. The Decent Challanges started popping IT++ (to be as 80) yesterday after killing them for a while :3

no what I was thinking was the possibility of the NMs getting weaker based upon the number of similar type mobs you kill.

The coolest thing, I think, about Abyssea is that when you're fighting a mob, similar mobs will start inching towards you.
No so great if you're fighting something that agros or links, but a god send to your puller if you're doing things like birds.

DO NOT AGGRO THE QUTRUB NM. It will fucking rape you then bend you over and skull fuck each eye socket.

We actually had a really good run in La Theine today. Since the mobs seem to scale to your level, we had no trouble with our group of five. We found a nice cozy spot to weave together some cointeach-type mobs too.
Also, those new mobs are a pain, especially Clionids. AoE damage + extremely potent Burn? No thanks.

Whatever you do...don't fuck with the rabbit NM in La Theine abyssea......Our group determined that rabbit is the reincarnation of every rabbit killed, by every player, on every server.....it will pwn you, jizz on your face, then teabag your entire pt.

Seriously though, that thing has probably a good 40k+ hp, spams whirling claws for about 700+ a pop, and can drop a 3k+ wild carrot on itself. It's a nightmare. We fought it for 10 minutes, got it to 93% hp, then had it cure itself back to full. We then decided it was best to just go ahead and wipe to it.

If anyone figures out a strat for that bunny tho let me know. It drops a kick can cape for whms and I'd like to get it one day. :)

As for me, I've been doing it with a group of friends. We're mostly farming cruor at this point. It's a heckava lot of fun tho :D

Probably need to, you know, exploit the rabbit's weakness.
Like the NPCs and the patch notes yell out at you a million times.

That rabbit is easy, I've killed it seeral times trying to get the cape for my WHM..

We've found going with 8 is best, as Cruor is split 8-ways at the most. So our setup is the following:

WHM
PLD/WAR
RDM/DRK
COR
BRD
BLM

RNG/SAM
SAM/NIN

Most of the times we go with between 6-8 people. The rabbit itself is easy, Whirlclaw barely hurt the PLD, RNG absolutely rips it a new asshole, SAM SC with the RNG, BLM MB when given the chance. SAM/NIN(or/WAR) don't get hurt by whirlclaw as Shadows eat it, and RDM/DRK + BLM stun Wild Carrot.

The whole fight itself takes less than 5 min.

The above setup can kill any NM in Abyssea.

The above tank party set up I've found to be by far the best setup for pretty much any fight in the game (/RDM, /BLU and /NIN works too), with naturally the BLM being replaced by a second BRD (most of the time), or WHM or PLD (only if the NM has hate reset moves), and the RDM subbing the most neccesary sub for the situation. Quite honestly, /NIN is a load of bull for most any fight in the game, as /WAR, /RDM or /BLU is endlessly better for most everything.

going to assume a comparison to limbus where stuff like drg/rdm or drg/blu,etc. are great and the like actually just farming cruor once I guess you could say its a lot like limbus only the mobs are definitely tougher and if your party is decent you do better with less

assuming thats in reference to your last sentence specifically but in context your post.

I'm not sure what you mean, but PLD/WAR /RDM /BLU is superior to /NIN in almost every situation. Including, but not limited to, VNM's, HNM's, Einherjar and Abyssea.

/RDM was far superior to any of the above until they nerfed RDM spells hate-wise. /RDM still has its situations (Dawon Tier 3 VNM comes to mind, or Jailer of Love), but /BLU and /WAR are still far superior. We 8-manned Yilbegan with 1 PLD/RDM tank, for example. There's still situations where /NIN is good, like AV and PW where mobs hit like a truck, but those are few and far between. 2 BRD's, COR, RDM WHM is also by far the best tank party support, especially now with fast cast roll.

i thought you were speaking about subs for people in general, looked at your last few sentences and saw you mention tank party, thats what you meant; I was reading the last few sentences then thought back to sam/war (/niin) then kept on reading to the end of them hence the confusion

but you were referring to just pld or the tank persay anyways

long story short, I'm tired and going to bed

Well, the SAM/NIN (/WAR) part was because I'm not sure if Third Eye absorbs Whirlclaw. If it do, /WAR would be best, otherwise /NIN is best for it. Our SAM prefers /NIN, but personally I prefer /WAR whenever you can get away with it.

Third Eye won't absorb phyiscal AoEs.

Perhaps rabbit is weak to ranged attacks and/or ranged weaponskills?
