Acc, STR, and DEX balance

You're not going to be able to get a 6-hit build without Rajas(or without seriously gimping yourself), so I'd only get the feet if you don't have any +STR feet. Legs and head and body are trash, hands and feet are good for 6-hit builds until you get your Store TP merits then dump hands.

If you sit on TP to skillchain in a merit quit samurai now please

Dude, ur telling this to Roadkill, one of the more pimp SAMs on the server?? o_O;

If I don't know his SAM by name either it doesn't impress me so much or i don't know him.

Either way you shouldn't hold TP in a merit party to skill chain lol.

I hope you were being sarcastic, because my sarcasm detector broke.

i'm not judging anyone for how they decide to play. everything i said was my personal play style, and it's worked great for me since. ive done both methods and prefer the latter. for about 3 years now accually. this isnt the best ALL the time. i wouldnt hold tp to sc with penta thrust, or rampage because detonation and reverberation never break 400~.

hexx thaks for the support, but i dont consider myself that highly. i'm missing quite alot of gear (ace's, usukane, hachiryu) so i have alot to work for yet.

man, if you say "sit on tp", everyone gets thier panties in a twist. reminds me of the "n1gger guy" south park episode. and you still got someone trying to school you that dosent even play sam lol

Didn't realize i don't play SAM, it being my main job and all?

Whats so great about a 6hit build if you have to sit on TP at times so as to not become an MP sponge? I actually agree a lot with roadkill on this one.

I can't say that I agree. The meripo he quoted earlier in the thread is really a sub-par setup, so a sub-par getup fits right in. No offense intended, Road.

I'm far from optimal gear myself, but I'd definitely argue the benefits of a 6-hit build with a nice amount of haste and a Hagun.

Like Baj said earlier, counting on a random hit somewhere to complete one's 6-hit setup isn't something with which I'm comfortable. I've had plenty of times in meripo and Limbus where I've been waiting with my finger over my WS macro for that fifth hit after the WS.

Also, throwing up Seigan and Third Eye before you WS (or having shadows up if you're /NIN) is a sufficient safety-net in my opinion. If you do pull hate and the mob gets a hit in, tada! There's your extra TP to complete your six-hit. :wink: If you're tanking for an extended period of time afterward, either your tank sucks or your fellow melee suck.

Yeah, I went nuts in a mamool cannon going sam/nin. I was no less an MP sink than any of the other melees, while going all out with my damage. 6-hit + Hagun = best overall damage; gimping yourself for the good of the group is useful if it's necessary(MNK/NIN anyone?), I just haven't had to do it that often.

It depends on which weapon you are using, the delay determines your base TP/Hit.

A standard 450 delay Great Katana requires Store TP +46 total to reach 100 % TP in 6 hits.

100 TP in 6 hits requires (100/6) = 16.7% TP/Hit [Decimals after the first are truncated]
Hagun has a base TP/Hit of 11.5%
Difference: 16.7-11.5= 5.2% TP/Hit

Since the Store TP trait is a percentage increase of your current TP/hit, you need to calculate this difference required as a % of your weapon's base TP/hit.

(5.2/11.5)*100 = 45.2 Store TP

As you can't equip any item which gives Store TP + 0.2 (none exist), this figure needs to be rounded up to the nearest integer over 45, which is 46.

Talked to more SAMs I know, they haven't been able to find the amount of ACC+ bonus on YGK because they just can't get low enough ACC to parse under capped ACC. So far, it's at least ACC+70 (yes, seventy) at 75.

Holy shit +70 ACC on Y/G/K?? Thats intense!

It's difficult to say if it's a straight ACC+ or some percentage, but essentially don't bother equipping any ACC gear on WS. This is the thread where people are posting parses and trying to get a sense of the bonus.

Also, YGK has always been known to have a pDIF bonus of some kind because of how obviously better they are than Kaiten on high DEF mobs when the damage difference shouldn't be that much (YGK are like +400 damage more than Kaiten). By just looking at WSC mods and fTP you would think Kaiten would be better in general, with Kaiten having 60% STR and 3.0 fTP and Hagun YGK having 75% STR and 1.875 fTP). For meriting, I believe they're similar? Don't quote me on that, but on high DEF/level it's obvious which wins out. The bonus on YGK is something like extra 50% or 70% more ATK (can't be sure if it's a straight ATK bonus, ATK%, some number or a +% added to cRatio because of the natural variance in pDIF). For some feel of the ATK, with a CORs ATK buff and decent gear, you'd be close but not quite capped using YGK on birds, so ATK is still important to have (foragers being better than smil +1, for example)

These are very important considerations to take into account when you make your WS setups as a SAM, since a lot of the time people will typically say to make sure you have enough ACC, then work on ATK/STR. Which by all means is great advice, but it's pretty apparent (and not obvious at all) that you don't need any ACC at all for YGK for almost everything.

What would you say is an acceptable amount of ACC to have on? Personally, I tend to shoot for at least 20~ish ACC or so. The rest I focus on STR and Atk+.

Im WS in Pallas's and when I'm high enough, pickin up some alkys

@Hexx
You were lv60 ish right? The thing about the ACC bonus is that it probably depends on your level in some way (or some percent of your total ACC), so it's hard to say what the bonus will be for you.

Assuming your eating meat(if not, do it) and using yuki, you shouldn't need any ACC on WS. But I can't say that with complete certainty since you're 60. Next time you party, you should parse your WS ACC% with full STR. If you can't parse, you can make a tally of hit and miss WS (consider 1TP double attacked as miss) and see how your WS ACC is. I'd wager your WS ACC is capped though.

@Euph
Alkys ideally
