I have been hearing alot of people telling me their accounts have been hacked. They are lossing everything they own. All items have been taken/dropped.

I was wondering how is this happening?
Or Maybe whos doin this.
Is Square doin anything about this?

- One thing i have noticed is everyone that has had there account hacked that i have talked to they are using PS2 to log in.

- Also almost 100% have not told any of their account info to anyone ever.

- People seem to blame RMT's on this but it would seem to me that they would just snag ur AH items and leave ex so u can get more gear and hack u again. More it seems that this is a glitch or the ones doin this are doin it in pure hatred.

If anyone has information or have been hacked please post.

Now a days its quite easy to hack into things.Esp. ps2.All someone needs to do is jump on your ps2 and just guess till there heart isconsent on your password.Or they can grab your info offline through Via email and figure it out from there.SE did a good job on making sure there IDs wernt easily hacked.Yet there is always that one person who is tring to be better than companies. So yea, if someone can hack into the pentagon they can hack into a ffxi account.

I'm curious. How many of these people use the linkshell community website? That website you enter in the Login ID and your password. From there, all they need is FFXI installed on there computer. Bam, accounts theirs. In theory; I don't know the protection and such. But it seems like a viable problem.

Wow great idea might be but its a secure site like the URL friend list thing.

I heard few days ago the FFXI plugins for firefox might have keyloggers in, scaned it found nothing and keyloggers on a javi O_o but people say alot of things lol

Um... I think that PlayOnline is a little more secure than the Pentagon.

I never really worried about my acct getting hacked and robbed. I don't have that much gear, and I'm broke. Not too appealing. The only person that knows my POL code/password is my brother, so if I ever am missing anything, I will simply walk in to his room and destroy him.

I guess its easy to try to blame the RMTs, but you have a good point about them leaving your gear so you can farm again. I dunno, maybe its aliens? :shok:

Except that its a SE run website. Why would they need a website to steal your information.

- when it comes to the community site this whole hacking thing has been goin on longer then the site has been up

- when it comes to people just logging in under ur account in ur house or sitting there for hrs trying to figure out a password. Recent person who was hacked no more the 48hrs ago had just his gil and AH items taken. Ps2 has no pc so no logging in anywhere else- kids a bit of a loner no one has his account info or has any friends coming over finding his account number
-- i thought the all knowing SE had the Delivery Box on lock down seeing large transactions being dealt.. i would think cleaning out a pretty rich woodworker would classify as being a Large amount of delivering not to mention pretty time consuming.

- I was wondering if the ps2 is glitching cause the server to kill the users char profile making them lose everything. just a thought.

I'd be careful to differentiate what you've been told and what is fact. Idiot players are platform independent, and often are not accurate in details. There's many ways to get account information, and getting the password. I've wondered how many tries it would take for someone to try random POL IDs using the same ID as the password to get in. Scripting the process would be trivial, and unless SE is paying attention to failed login attempts (and also depending on their implimentation of this procedure) your chances of getting caught are probably pretty slim. You get a hit, login, and unload the character. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Social engineering the players might be easier, but hey that'll take more skill than the previous example.

I'm sure I could blather on a few more examples, but I digress from my point. Who stole "So-and-so's" account? Only the thief (if they exist) and SE will know, and SE isn't giving out the information. Honestly, I bet in most cases, the account theft is nothing more than a mirage for a stupid move done by the legit account owner.

This topic does nothing to "solve the crime" in any way unless the thief or SE post here. Unlikely IMHO, so until then, grab a piece of toast and spread this FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) on thick, becuase we all (including me!) have an opinion and overwilling to share it.

Phone POL and set up 3 failed attepts = need phone call and credit card check on phone lol

Well im not Out to SOLVE anything.. i am just curious on what people know about it. Hense why forums are around. Please post with info concerning this recent event of actual lost items do to unknown reasons; Lets assume for a fact the person isnt a complete idiot and used there pol id as there password b/c they didnt.

Sure.. Is there a program to acquire a users info?
Keyloggers is a good Theory.

Im just looking for what people may know about this or who had this done to them so they can add their input.. SE should be doin something about this if its an legit issue (which it seems to be just by the pur scope of people this is happening to)

Yeah, I'm sure at least some of the people who were "hacked" merely gave their information to someone else and then just didn't want to look like an idiot so they said they were hacked. That's generally how a lot of these things happen, someone wasn't paying attention or just freely gave out their information to someone, despite all of the warnings from SE to never do that.

That used to happen to my cousin on a weekly basis in Diablo II. He would give his acct/pass when someone would off to 'check his rank.'

But yeah, if I gave my acct/pass to someone and got robbed, I would do the same thing. "ZOMG CATBURGLAR STOLE ALL MY MONIES!!1!" There is no way I'd freely admit to being retarted.

Yea, but sometimes people are honestly hacked. Sometimes doing what SE says and change your PW all the time is a bad thing... believe me.. I know...

You obviously don't know much about computers =) Pentagon, nasa, and whitehouse websites get hacked so often, because it's miles easier to get into than something like se's servers. the real important servers from the goverment are less often hacked, and usually unhackable without a curropt official due them not being connected to internet, or editable from the internet. Seriously, whenever you hear people hacking goverment computers, 99% of the time, someone defaced their website, goverment doesn't care much for the public website, and hire the cheapest programmers, who in turn fail to protect against sql injections well enough.

Now on top of that, the goverment is known for being highly incompetent in the realm of computing, SE probably isn't doing too much better, but it's not unreasonable to say that SE's servers are in fact, more secure.

I love the lolinternetsarcasm Pasquale ^.~ makes me lol

I'm not saying it's SE jacking it. Someone looking in through their website however, could be. Keylogger happens to see that... {Hmmm.} Let's jack this crap and sell it on E-Bay. I thought it was obvious I didn't think it was SE >.>;;

Obviously, only one way to prevent this from happening: Don't play the game. Because this shit can happen to anyone. IE: BlazeofFury. Otherwise, keep your shit to yourself. I'll admit, 8 people know my information. Those 8 people are family members (brothers, sister-in-law) and friends I've grown up with. Naturally, I can take their lives at any time ^.~ so I'm not worried. I only have about 16 million in stuff.
