Activision shit storm inbound! Pay to play CoD Online!?

This whole thing basically boils down to a statement that Kotick made which went something along the lines of "if I could, I'd make MW2 a subscription service yesterday", which isn't an announcement of plans, merely wishful thinking on the part of someone who sees a vast revenue stream loosely associated with his product (ie, Xbox Live) flowing somewhere other than to his company.

Of course, it's entirely feasible to move FPSs to a subscription model, you just have to hit the right price point, and the right level of... compensation, so to speak, for customers to want it.

Except Activision already made hand over foot when Call of Duty MW2 came out. They made money. They probably see a cut of map-pack download money. No one will go for this which will cause Activision to lose money. Not to mention that PSN/Xbox Live have no dedicated servers. Will the PC version have dedicated servers? Probably not. So how can they charge for an online game with out dedicated servers?
Actually, it wouldn't be a loss for Activision at all. Going off the completely scientific pool of "people I know who play CoD", the general consensus between them is that "it would suck, but I'd still pay to play CoD".
Would there be people who wouldn't like it, and people who would organize boycotts for it? Yeah, but they did that with MW2, and look how well that turned out.

Why all the rage? Didn't you all pay a monthly fee to play FFXI at some point? Sure the games are vastly different, but the point is you weren't going nuts when SE was charging you $11.00/mo (or more). For all we know Activision will charge something like $3.00/mo to compensate for lack of content / depth.

Just because CoD:MW2 won't be pay to play, or Black Ops... that doesn't mean that future titles won't end up being pay to play. Seems like thats the direction the industry is looking to go...

Worrying about the distant future isn't a healthy way to live.

oh, i forgot to post here but last week they announced that this was not true, the screen shot that was released online for the purchase shop was a glitch that had nothing to do with CoD, they said we will never have to pay to play CoD online ever as it would just be dumb.
Also, Ass ton of patches coming for MW2.

I don't even play FPS games :p so I'm certainly not worried. I'm just watching this topic to terrorize my husbands friend on facebook :D
