Adoption or Abduction...?

From what I have heard about it, it sounds like abduction. If these people honestly thought they were doing the right thing, they needed to make sure what the protocol was before they started trying to ship these kids out. If they really wanted to help it would have been better to find the kids' relatives and try to keep the families together while giving them some aid and/or temporarily house the families elsewhere while a permanent building was made for them in Haiti.

I read that some of the parents wanted the group to take their kids due to the fact the parents said they could have a better life in America. The child knew the parents were alive and the parents knew their child/children were alive.

But.... this is abduction if a legitimate group can't go through the right avenues of adoption. This seems to me to be more of a snatch and grab operation. Get them out of their country and deal with it later sort of shit. I'd think that if they got them to America before being found out that the courts would have it tied up for years on how to handle the situation. I also think it was more of a personal decision on the part of the "leader" of the group. Some of the Americans arrested couldn't have been more than 16-17. I'm not sure of their ages, just going off pictures, but the younger people of the group would be influenced by the senior members of the group. I think the main defense attorney even said so much that it was one person's decision. The sheep follow the shepherd sort of shit.

Abduction. They knew what they were doing was wrong or they would have kept the kids in Haiti until everything calmed down to the point where the proper procedures could be gone through to get the necessary papers to transport them out of Haiti.

I feel like they thought either, "Haiti is in such bad shape right now we can just go, no problem" or they fell under the "We're from America it's okay" either fitting grounds to be shown their place.

Abduction. The fact they were "members of a church" makes it no different.

Abduction.... plain and simple.
There was a case like this in Chad were a charity group tried to take children out of the country to Europe as they felt "in the best interest of the children to have a better life in Europe"

Is it really THAT hard to do things legally?

It usually is. Whether it's immigration or adoption, the government throws up so much red tape, it's not worth bothering. This case has elements of both.
