Age of Conan: you may enjoy it, but approach with caution.

Installing game now ^^ I will look for you tonight Fly. Not sure what my name will be yet.

Strange game, but it's ok so far.

The content seems to start to disappear around the 40's, I think. Still needs a bit more work, but it's a cool game, none-the-less.

GameTrailers said that too :P they said it's a fun game but the content more towards getting to the end is lacking and they expect it to improve like all other MMOs with in the next several updates.

I have been debating AoC for a while now, and despite everything I hear about AoC I dont seem to hear much of what kind of plot/story it is. What kind of genre, action, fantasy, sci fi, or? I have to admit, the story line of a game is important to me.

From the sound of it, leveling sounds much like WoW. I dont know how the job classes work but to the OP, is it possible that your class might be part of the reason you didnt experience the amount of groups that say Anaeran did/does? I know in WoW when I leveled my hunter I hardly ever got groups but I didnt realy need them either, but on my PLD I was constantly getting groups to the point I would have to turn some away.

Another question.. When it comes to creating characters is it like WoW where you can make many different types of characters on multiple servers or is it like FFXI where you focus on primarily one character and that one character can do multiple classes?

1 character = 1 class. You can't switch between classes like in FF.

As far as plot, each class seems to have their own beginning plot. Like I started off as a Priest of Mitra. Right now, I am learning the ways of the Mitra and trying to get back to my homeland.

Oh, and the character creation is pretty cool. It feels more like Elder Scrolls with how much you can customize appearance. That, and females can be topless. I found myself a piece of body armor and I took the old one off first to put the new one on, and there I was ... boobs in the wind.

omfg I broke the age of conan forums here...guh, I have to fix this tomorrow. I'm sorry guys. I've been slacking lately. :/

That is solely what transformed AoC from an "I might try the demo" to a "holy fuck, EB Games opens in 10 fucking minutes and I'm not standing at the door for my copy yet?!".

You can really tell the dev team is putting in their all to make AoC become the next big thing. They did release it far too early, but that's probably better in the eyes of Funcom's stockholders. Let the public pay us while doing the platform testing, instead of wasting Funcom resources to do it in-house as it should have been.

I don't like that in particular but the game isn't broken to the point where it's unplayable. Out of 30 quests active at any given time, I can expect 1-3 of them to have glitches and be undoable.

40+ the questing is sparse but there still seems to be content. I've only had to break from questing for a couple levels due to a lack of decent quests, and instead went out to grind. All jobs can solo anywhere from 2-8 mobs at a time, and the xp scales per level. At 52 I get ~1100xp from a 52 mob and it takes ~290k to level. It sounds like a lot but it really flies by between quests, quest mobs, and mobs.

edit: Lanien, send me an offline tell and I'll add you to my watchforthismotherfucker list.

Sandria, have you ever read or watched any Conan things? :P cause it takes place in that universe so it's fantasy. I don't know too much about it but king is Conan and there's a war going on between his country and other ones around him and ya. That's about as much as I know XD I'm gonna get this game once there's more content. For now, I shall save my money.

Do remember that you're speaking to FFXI players. >.>

So I've been 80 for awhile now and the initial "wow it's a new game" feeling has worn off.

I'm not so sure this is where I want to be long term. It's fun, but not really all that technically challenging. It's pretty, but still pretty buggy and incomplete too. The content for end game doesn't appear all that exciting. I'm really pretty bored with it already.

I don't really care for the 250+ zerg guild mentality that Funcom is promoting either. The community is immature and obnoxious to the point I can't even stand reading /ooc, let alone having these people infultrate my guildchat and ventrilo.

I'm going to stick with it for now, but I'm looking forward to Warhammer open beta more than ever now.

nag nag nag nag. j/k ;p He's got a lot of other work on his hands right now. <3 Miros

I saw the previews on websites and it at first, this game did not appeal to me at all. A lot of the WoW players promoted this game to be a FFA or real PvP rawr testosterone manfest. It took Mephs to try out the game at home and then I was off to buy my own copy.

The game is not as bad as I thought it would be. The combo system is a nice change from one button moves. Character creation is pretty fun to mess around with and even the lowest setting for bust size is pretty big. :P Outdoor and instance environments are well crafted visually. Below is an image of one of my characters:

Healing in this game is quite different from most MMOs. Most of the spells are casted heals over time. I have not really done too much with the healer classes so far.

In most MMOs, I ignore the general/OOC/say chat because it usually only shows one part of the community. The same goes with the forums. People cry that there might be a little more skill involved in their class besides auto attacking/one button wins. There are quite a few former WoW players who either love/hate AoC and they will spam the forums and OOC chat expressing their feelings comparing the game to WoW.

There is little for me to comment about PvP since I play on a PvE server. Mephs is nuts when it comes to PvP and I refuse to play if he's going to explode about it. If you can get through tortage, it will be okay. There are people who will run away/jump in water instead of fight as well as the usual gankers. Usually after a fight, people will make comments about it or will say offensive slurs for epeen purposes (f** is used frequently). There is a heated discussion about a fugitive system that has mixed reviews.

No sugar coating here, the game is buggy and still needs to add content progressively. At least some of the new changes are faster. My highest lvl character is 43 and I have not seen too much color changed crabs around. Sometimes the character falls through the world, the servers are laggy, and some quests do not work. There's an FPS bug that is annoying but fixable. Also be careful of what you want to sell on the trade house. I am not sure if it is a bug or the way the game is working as intended but if you put an item up for sale, it cannot be resold to the vendor. The item has to be discarded instead or it will have to sit in the inventory until someone wants to buy it.

Funcom programmers will have to make some fixes to the goldfarming/RMT spams as people can leave you offline messages and fill up the mailboxes with unwanted information.

There is also no rush for me to hit 80 either because of the progressing content. I'll probably play for a while though.

As far as story goes, it is based off the stories originally written by Robert E. Howard ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_E._Howard ) and then were adapted into comics, movies, and other forms of entertainment. The theme of this mmo is supposed to be adapted to a more adult audience and tries to hold true to the world described in the stories.

I'm a little afraid of that too so I've been taking my time where possible. Stopped a lot between 45 and 52 to rank up harvesting; when those are capped out I'm starting some crafting. Also going to try and have some small guild events going on but that will really depend on what Funcom adds. I'd love to see a drinking game you could run with the guild if they'll let us buy kegs.

Got a few alts I'm levelling as well but that can only hold you over for so long. So we'll see. The big thing for me was a soloing game. I've been treating this more like an offline single player rather than an MMO so to me this is just taking the place of other offline games I would play.

Single player games gotta have something real special to keep me playing for a long time. For AoC... titties.

so to capture cmdrfly market... booze, boobs, and beat downs :P

I was raised in a trailer surrounded by hicks.
