I had to go back to July to find any comments here about this game. I didn't get it when it came out but just recently picked it up because it was marked down to $19.99 and figured it would at least be worth that to test it out.

Is anyone still playing it? Looking at the official forums it seems to still be active but they are having to merge servers due to low server populations.

I'm guessing it's getting clobbered by Warhammer and the new WoW expansion.

Just curious how this game is progressing and if anyone still has good stuff to say about it.

Total waste of money. Cancel now and save yourself the time.

the game died, from what i understand it lasted a month and just died.

I played for just under two months and finally called it quits. The game looks nice and it played well on my rig. I just had issues with, in my experience, the general lack of grouping, most only leveling through quest completion (I like my exp groups/mob grinding), and the itemization system in the game.

Two ominous signs have come recently for Age of Conan fans; developer Funcom went through a round of layoffs, and they announced plans to merge some of the game's servers in order to maintain a "healthy" population. Despite this, Funcom has maintained that development will continue for both the PC version and the upcoming Xbox 360 version of the game, confident that Age of Conan won't follow Tabula Rasa into oblivion. A writer at Vox ex Machina doesn't share that view, pointing to several of the game's flaws as reasons why it didn't maintain the popularity it enjoyed at launch.

Well, I've installed and started playing just a bit. I've got so much other stuff on my plate right now though I won't spend a lot of time on it.

I like that I can solo for a long time in the earlier levels and I like the graphics.

Definitely seems to have some population issues though. But really they have 25 servers for US and 25 for Europe, what did they expect?

The game has/had a lot of potential and looks amazing, but it feels pretty empty when you start hitting the 40's. I imagine it's like that earlier on in the game, now, since there won't be as many low level people.. sort of like FFXI's low levels.

Correct. I've leveled Conqueror to 22 and a few other jobs into the teens, but it's been solo all the way. Every once in a while I see other players but not many at all in the starting areas.

I still kinda like it as a solo experience though. Just not sure how long that will play out.

The first 20 levels are very different from the rest of the game.. it has a storyline. Once you get out of Tortage, the world opens up and just dumps you in the middle, and you can't go back to the starter area.
