Is there any ethics when it comes to the AH? I saw this, and I laughed.
vermy1.jpg

Then I though "At ige prices, that guy just lost like $100"
I though I would love to have a Vermy for 300K, but I don't think I would like it knowing I totally screwed someone over to get it.

What about you guys?

lol I know Tailss (one of my friend), he suppost to play it at 11mil instead he place at 11k lol, but Rece is Tailss's friend, so he gave it back to him. :D

Now that's ethics.

I think it was masterorion who did similiar for me once. paid the morion tath price for a stack of tath ... standup dood, traded back. Mad props to people who understand a momentary lapse of reason at the AH.

Taillss was lucky tho, is his own friend that brough the cloak, if it was someone else, it could be over lol

well just to tell you guys, when placing someone expenive, always double check, triple check it, cuz a lot of silly mistake happen like that

I still feel bad one of the JP trying to show off, placing astral earring for 1G and one of my friend brough it for 2mil lol

I recently bought a RR Hairpin for 1.3 mil instead of 130k (Jeuno lag...). Found the guy online, didn't speak english... so I said "[mistake] [RRHairpin] (however you spell it) [Sell?] >.<;;" And he said "1,15 ok?" And traded my back 1.15 million for it. I didn't think I'd ever get my money back and was willing to accept that, but the fact that he gave it back was incredibly nice.

Yea, I'm going to start. I have a Tavnazian ring, I may as well use the damn thing.

also if u notice 2 sales later tailis sells another one. As far as i know tailis cant craft em and there is no reason to have 2 of em otherwise. My guess... rece and tailis decided to play a joke for whatever reason.

If you read the thread you'd know they are friends so Tailss got lucky.

Had the same luck as mirewen with a Fire staff. Paid 1.3 mil (the going price of a Vulan's Staff last year) for a 15k fire staff. Instatntly did a /sea all for the person i bought it from, who turned out to be JP and at the AH in Upper Jeuno. Long and short is He gave back the monay and I returned the staff. ^^

Course, there are plenty of times where I bid 12x the price on ingots thinking I was buying stacks, or the reg version of +1 armor, only to be B-listed by the person I bought it from :p

I just fear that day when Im trying to open someones bazaar in the Jeuno/downs lag, and accidentally buy an insect wing for 6 million gil.

/point /laugh

I know they are friends they both used to be in CK but then tailss decided to leave for some reason. What I am saying is that maybe they decided to do this on purpose for some reason.

Kinda funny we even call it an auction house anymore. Buyers who pay too much; sellers who recieve too little - all feel entitled to compensation. Maybe everything would be better if the AH worked like bazaars, and you can only bid the asking price exactly. And to be fair, if the asking price is 1, you'll be prohibited from bidding. Asking prices of 1 gil are clearly people trying to show off their net worth and rare item and this should be encouraged. Or maybe variations greater than 10k from the average price history should be prohibited, both in price setting and in bidding. I personally have no problems reimbursing massive overbids, but if I get lucky and buy an item dirt cheap, I'm not going to feel bad. There were times when I'd do nothing but try and ping 1gil bids and get lucky.

Here is my personal philosophy on AH mistakes:

A. If I buy something that somebody put up for alot less than the going rate, thats they're problem. Alot of the time this is the result of somebody trying to undercut and instantly sell a piece of equipment that others are trying to sell. If you're gonna be retarded and undercut by millions, be prepared to loose millions.

B. If somebody overbids on an Item I have placed on the AH, that again is their problem, but it is only fair that they get their moneys worth. If somebody overbids, and this has happened to me more than once, rather than returning their money, I spend it and send the person the items i spend it on. This sounds more complicated than it is, so i'll give examples of what i've done in the past. Just recently I had a person pay me the carange blade price for a bloody blade, 1 mil for what was at the time a 300k sword, so i took the extra money and bought a stack of darksteel ingots, and a few beastman bloods and crafted 3 more bloody blades and sent them to him (i failed one) so for his money, he got 4 bloody blades, for about the cost of making them, and i got a smithing skill up and a chance to try for an HQ.

I did a similar thing when i was skilling up alchemy, somebody overbid several hundred k on an item i was selling, so i used his money to buy supplies for icarus wings, crafted a couple stacks, got a couple of alchemy levels, and sent him the resulting wings, which turn out to be a profit for him.

My philosophy is that if you overbid, your money becomes mine for a while, I'll give it back, but not until i get alittle use out of it too, consider it dumbass tax.

C. If i overbid on an item (this has also happened). I write the money off, shrug and go on with my day. I don't expect to get it back, and i don't ask for it back usually. If i get it back, i'm very greatful, and usually send back a chunk of the money.

Thats my AH code of ethics.

There's a person named Kfk who sits in Davoi all day camping Jujitsu Gi. I've beaten her once, but the nm appeared right in front of me. On another occasion, she was next to me and then suddenly on the opposite side of the circle with claim. I believe she uses 3rd party tools. (I consider myself somewhat capable; I got 3/4 claims on Hoo Mjuu w/o flee the other day just by keeping careful track of time and PH; I've also claimed Mee Deggi against gilsellers three times on separate occasions, etc)

So every once in a while, I underbid on J. Gi; if it comes out of her pocket, I consider it her fine for preventing people without special tools from being able to camp the nm. I'd just be using the gi for capped stuff such as CoP and 5-1 runs anyhow, which helps my linkshell.

I wouldn't consider it unethical if I got the gi at below cost; I consider the fact that it's over 1 mil to be a joke. Monks take it hard at 40; everyone decided to camp our items as big cash for some reason . . . brown belt is hard to quest for yourself since so many people quest it to take advantage of young monks. Fuma Kyahan is not worth whatever it's at. Anyway, a monk 40 has had extremely cheap gear and weaponry up til then, and then at 40 there is the Fuma-Brown Belt-Jujitsu Gi-snipers hit. Getting past that is a pretty big test, I think.

...never mind that fuma kyahan suck for monk... and ignoring kotes...

I agree with Noxxx. If you post something for less than the previous prices you'd sell it a lot faster, but also risking the fact that someone will underbid the going price. Can't blame the buyer for underbidding. Everyone wants to save as much money as possible.

Missing THREE zeros really is asking for it.
The fact that he got anything back is testament to, "It's who you know."

This reminds me of a night I was outside Jeuno browsing the bazaars back when I was playing, and Xion had cross counters in his bazaar for 20,000 gil.

At first glance I was like "Wait.. what?" and I bought them fast before anything could happen, then I ran to the AH to double check to make sure I just got what I got for 20k, and sure enough, I did.

So anyway, I start sending him tells and he's at his keyboard, and I ask him why he listed it at 20k, and practically begged him to take them back. I told him I'd give them back and all for free, and in the end he basically told me I bought them fair and square and to keep them. This really upset me because I'm not that kind of person, and I spent a few days just being frustrated as all hell while at the same time feeling fortunate enough to have something like that happen. It was emotionally disturbing because I knew he probably felt like shit but for whatever reason wouldn't take them back from me.
