AH feedback thread

Yeah... not being able to reply to AH threads is kinda annoying. You can't see if there's anyone else interested in an item, or offering a different price, or whatever. I'd also like to be able to bump a sell thread that has items in it that I'm getting a cut from ... lol.

I'm sure it cuts down on threads getting junked up, but that's what mods should be for. >.<

I can't see anything in the AH section now. Only way I can see threads is the last one posted because it shows up on the sides, and when you scroll down I see that there's nothing enabled "you can not post new threads, you can not view threads," etc

so here I am, ready to be an active member on the auction house posts, and I can't post a reply. This is ludacris. I wanted to say I can make the item the person is looking for, and that I have a +1 of the item for sale, this information would benifit more than just that one person. So a PM is not what I want to do. Please take this into consideration.

I think people missed the part about including the price in the threat title. Whole idea was you wouldn't need to open the thread unless you saw the item/price you wanted on the main list.

If someone else wants the item Jonosapi, they should make a thread, or you could make one offering to sell the item.

making more useless threads.. change it back, no reason why you shouldnt be able to post in the AH threads. thats pretty stupid...really though man, wtf are you doing to QCDN. this site is getting pretty lame. you wanted to remove the flame board thats one thing. but stop messing with everything. you want to keep people. stop fucking up all the work you have done

Let's just look at what you wrote, shall we?

re: making more useless threads
So now, someone who makes a thread to sell something made a useless thread?

re: no reason why you shouldn't be able to post in the AH threads
The main reason is that most replies that were made to AH threads in the past had nothing to do with actually completing a transaction. Instread people were posting about what they think about the price, discussions on how to make the item, discussions on where/how else to get it etc etc.

The point is that in removing those discussions from the AH threads, and directing them to wherever they belong (i.e. crafting), one does not have to look through a couple pages to determine whether the item is still available.

I was talking about what Rones said with the Useless thread stuff. now i see how it wouldnt make the much of a differance i dont know, something just doesnt seem right about having a forum where you cant reply to things.

whats a mod for? cleaning threads. maybe you should be more strict to the people that are posting useless things in the sellers thread. i was told in PM not to reply about the price unless i was intrested in buying, so i stoped. maybe remove peoples posting rights if they "thread crap" even if only for a short time.

Not really an Auction now, is it?
Not really an auction in game either? In this case its just a name. Sculli has never allowed true auction form anyway.

We tried that. People didn't learn and got upset about the mean moderation. This prevents them from violating the rule. I'll draw a parallel. In a video game, is it better to tell people not to exploit a bug and punish people, or just fix the bug.

There is no reason for you to post to threads in the ah. If you want to buy or sell an item to them, you can pm them, email them, im them, or send them a tell in game. The only thing accomplished with posting is off topic spam. Now this functions much more like the in game auction house. Can you post snide comments on the ah in game because you don't like their price? At least here the idea is you can see exactly the price they want instead of guessing.

If people would just include their prices in the topic title, you could quickly scan the entire forum for items of interest. In the past people only checked a threads of particular interest, but now that it is quicker and cleaner, more threads will get checked and trade can increase.

In reality a forum isn't really needed. A program for posting items and prices would be better. However, this would require a lot of effort and we can mimic the same behavior through the forum. So don't look at it so much as forum. Rather see it as a classifieds section. You can't write comments in their either. You see what you want and the price, you contact the person. Done deal.

Well, if you really think about it, ingame, it actually IS an auction.

If it's a new item, and you have no idea of the price, the highest bidder (or fastest) past the minimum price from the owner, takes it. With the 'new' QCDN Acution rules, you don't even have a chance. It's like bidding in the dark.

But hey, who am i to say anything? Not being a mod or anything, i'm sure my opinion will be discarded like a fly to a beast.

These forums have come a long way from their origins... Not that they have gotten worse (or better in that case), but they're.... Different...

Cheers,
Sincerely, from a poster who thought that the AH forums weren't that distructive....

I agree that the AH the way it currently works is not an auction.
The reason it was called AH in the beginning was so that users could easily associate that forum as the place to buy and sell goods.

Having an actual auction take place has been considered, and found impractical. There is no way to ensure the validity of bids. Someone could sell an item and get a legitimate bid of say 1M (let's assume that is around fair market value or whatever you want to call it). Someone else could then place a bid for 2M. Is the 2M bid real? Will the 2M bidder follow through? Someone could bid 2M and willingly overpay because they want the item now and don't care about cash, someone could bid 2M to just mess around, someone could bid 2M just so the 1M bidder thinks he won't get it, yadda yadda yadda.

There is no way to hold bidders to their bids. There is no effective way to follow up on whether bidders followed through. There is lots of potential for drama/flames in cases when bidders do not follow through (i.e. d00d, I wuz jus' kidding wif ma bid, etc).

The reason places like ebay work is that one has to pay to participate as well as face a ban if they do not follow through with their auction.

re: cleaning up is what mods are for
Nope, as stated elsewhere over and over, mods are not babysitters.
Attitudes like "I will just post whatever and if it's wrong then a mod will clean it up" are not acceptable. Posters are responsible for their content, and mods are there to clean up the occasional slipup.

re: i'm sure my opinion will be discarded like a fly to a beast
Could you point to specific examples of when QCDN user opinions have not been taken into consideration? Could you also detail just what the ratio of user suggestions that were in your opinion discarded vs those which were implemented is?

Personally I do not feel as if QCDN has a bad track record of not listening to user opinion. I will admit that there are some things that are non-negotiable (such as the FB removal), but otherwise I don't see what exactly justifies to say that the user opinion doesn't count.

Well I have to say I didn't know until recently that you couldn't post to threads on the AH you didn't create... I'd come back and check and no one posted ... so I didn't think anyone had the item I was looking for or was willing to sell at the price I asked for...

Luckly the person sent me a /t in game... now I know and I can make changes.. but it would be nice to be able to post a .. "Hey I'll buy that.." or "Hey I have that for sale at that price" ...

I understand why you did what you did.. but I think it makes buying/selling a bit more difficult.

My first inclination was to suggest allowing replies and to warn/ban people who aren't able to follow simple instructions, but Rones is right. You can handle everything through PMs, especially when you consider that you can check the "Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages" box. Unless it's specifically against some rule I haven't seen, you can even have a real auction if you want. Ask for bids via PMs and when you receive one, update the price in the thread. Of course, what Sculli pointed out about the lack of enforcability is true; people might make fake bids. Those people, of course, should be sterilized and/or sent to live outside of civilization, but it can be tough to track them down. ;P

I actually came in this thread to post a different suggestion. I'd like to see something in the "Auctionhouse Procedures" thread suggesting, though not requiring, that people leave the sale price in the message after they've sold the item. I like to check previous sale prices when looking to buy or sell something, or sometimes just out of curiosity. Does anyone else?

Useless threads are just that, useless threads. The idea isn't to have 1 thread for a person selling the item and another thread for a person wanting to the same item but for a lower price or as a response to the seller. It's a waste of space. Being able to respond at least in some limited fashion allows the forum to cut down on new threads, buy/sell items faster removing items from the history, and making room for other buyers/sellers.

There is no reason to have a discussion about price on in the crafters, general discussion, or any other forum for that matter. It's off-topic from the point of those sections. Here it fits. I can't ever get a decent response now because people aren't allowed to respond. Take for example my situation. I want to buy a wrestler's mantle, but I don't know the current price or if they still even exist in the game. None have been sold in 1 year 5 months. Who do I ask now? I tried asking old buyers in the AH history, but I havent' seen one name online yet. Should I start a whole thread in GD just to get a price check? Seems kind of pointless when one would think and rightfully so, it belongs here. By the way, I posted the question in my AH thread, no one wants to respond because now that no one CAN respond, they don't even bother reading the thread to respond.

Or take a look at real life. We have traffic laws and police to enforce them. People still don't obey the laws, so we have two choices; hand out traffic tickets to unruly motorists or ban all motor vehicles. The problem with your anology isn't responding to a thread INS'T a glitch or a bug. It was originally allowed, but people abused it which is why it's not allowed now. In a game, a glitch was never meant and abuses the system. In the forums, responding doesn't abuse anything. If anything, responding will speed up transactions and remove threads from the first page allowing other buyers/sellers the front page access. Isn't the entire point of the AH to help buyer and seller make transactions faster and easier?

I don't think your understand what off-topic means. It means it deviates from the original intent of the thread. If I respond to a topic for a lower price, that I want to buy it or I know someone with said item, how is that off-topic? As far as I can tell, it's not. The thing that's great about allowing responses, it gives buyers/sellers a good idea if the item is desired. Maybe I don't have interest in the item someone is selling, but I can direct them to someone who does. Or perhaps someone else knows a friend who has the items I desire. I can tell you this, without being able to post a reply, most people won't go out of the way and send a PM to help a buyer or seller, but would write a reply if they could. I know I wouldn't. Now all people do is look at the titles and if they have interest in buying/selling a particular item, they will open the thread for more info, but the other 99% of the threads are ignored. I might as well have been blind to them and since I don't see them, how am I going to respond to help them?

Thank You

Would like to say thank you for this site and especially the AH thread, I've been able to sell countless items through this site. Thanks again.
