AH Priorities?

It seems to me that SE has some formula for selling on the AH. What I mean is that some people seem to get preference when selling items on the AH. I apologize if this has been covered but I haven’t come across that discussion so I started a new one.

Example- Recently I got my Alchemy to 29 to compliment my 69 Woodworking when making Bast Parchment to eventually make Shehei. I was so excited at what I calculated to be around a 400K profit for two hours work purchasing and producing the Shehei (that may not be much too some but I think that’s pretty good and was willing to enter the fast moving market of Shehei).

I cranked out 4 stacks of toolbags and 11 solo toolbags to sell on the AH. I placed 1 stack and 6 solo toolbags on the AH. At the time I did so there were only 7 other solo toolbags for sale, making the total 13 with mine for sale. I noted the time of last item sold and went about doing other things. When I checked the AH later I found that nothing of mine had sold, and the last 10 sales belonged to the same person for the exact price I had placed mine on sale for. I watched the history pretty intently during peak play time and found that others were selling before mine (at even greater costs) than I had asked. Then the person who had sold the 10 stacks while mine were up went on a run and sold like 16 items in a row (I maintained a record of the time of purchases to realize the total number). During this time NOTHING of mine sold.

I went to my Jeuno mule and places 7 more solo toolbags on the AH at a price lower than the current running price of 17K per toolbag. By this time there were about 45 solo toolbags for sale. One by one my main sold his toolbags for more than my mule was asking. Something is wrong here. Why would these things happen?

I believe that there must be some formula for who sells what on the AH first. I don’t know if it’s related to pure volume of what is sold, or if its fame based, or if it has to do with your screen name, or what you had for lunch or what, but I was wondering if anybody else had any theories on this or had witnessed something similar.

I don’t want this to be a flame against SE (but if you want to, I can’t stop you) I was just trying to find out what I need to do to sell my crafted products to make some money.

Well I thought that too, but note that my mule had the same item for less and the mains product sold first.

You don't really state where you were selling, but the basic city AH's are independant from Jeuno's...

But if the history is 17k and you put your's up for 17 k, then it's likely that someone else is putting theirs up for say 16901. In which case they'll probably sell for 17k and all theirs will sell before yours will.

Welcome to the world of undercutting. Whomever places their product on the AH for the lowest amount will sell theirs 1st. If you place a stack of Shihei for 17k and I place a stack of Shihei anywhere from 1-16,999 my stack of Shihei will sell before yours. It doesn't matter who put their item up for sale 1st, it only matters who has the lowest asking price when a buyer makes a purchase.

When I was crafting I noticed the same thing you are, and I kept telling my ls that the AH was screwing me because my stuff wasnt selling yet others were. That's how I found out about undercutting.

I have found this to be false as well, unless they are putting their's up for less, and somone still buys it at the going rate.

For example, lets use beehive chips. Many times I've put them up for 1-2k less than the going rate, and still had many people's sell before mine at a higher cost. I'll put mine up for 28k, and there will be another 5-10 sold afterwards for 30k.

The only thing I can think of is if they are actually putting their's up for less than 28k, but the buyers are still bidding 30k for them....

Either way it can be very frustrating, espeically when your selling stacks of goods worth 700k.

Thats because some ppl are too lazy to look for a lower price so they pay the going price and more at times, why i don't know. I put 4 stacks of lightning crystals in for 3k from an experience party they bought them all for 8k >.> Again why I do not know. In San d'Oria I placed a stack of Fire crystals for 500g, they paid 5k (now 8k in Jeuno) o.O... why do ppl tourture themselves with unruly prices is beyond me. Another thing some ppl may do is bid for the lower price and place it for the higher to keep the price up, of which is very bastard-ish of them to do but its done very often. Undercutting is a form of price control, just wished more ppl would.

That's also why you sometimes see things that are worth decent scratch go for 1g. The seller could have been trying to make a quick buck, but screwed themselves because someone had the sense to bid low.

I think sometimes there can be a very long delay between the time you put the item on the AH and when it actually becomes available for sale.

There have been times when I WAY undercut the current price to clear inventory space and had prices actually rise before mine sold.

you're all wrong, JP have priorities XD
