Aion- discuss

ah well, I just remember them being close to each other in time, too close to really say one ripped off the other exactly but I would say WoW definitely was influenced by EQ for the reason I stated :P

seriously though, are the controls for Aion good? Cause every other korean game I've played had poor controls for me (and couldn't customize em at all :( )

Which looks an awful lot like EQ2 what is your point?
The point being it looks like WoW, and I'm sick of WoW. I really don't care that it looks like EQ2 or whatever, a game I've never played or looked at.

Pretty sure someone has said this on almost every page of this thread. If you actually read the thread, you might find the information you seek.
I didn't, and still don't feel like reading 62 pages just to see others say it looks like WoW. Other people sharing the same opinion doesn't mean I can't post mine lol.

Anyway bottom line is it looks like they repackaged just enough to give it a different look but ultimately I bet it's just a WoW clone, and I'd rather play the real deal than something nipping at it's heels.

Looks an awful lot like wow...

But much, MUCH better :) . Imo, artistically, it's like a balance between WoW and FFXI, which is a very good thing. As you know, WoW is what all MMO's want to "kill" so who can fault the Aion devs to go in that direction if that was intended. Tactically, I think it's a good move seeing as it'll bring a sense of familiarity to those coming from the WoW community as well as introducing something tried/tested with new subscribers. The game environment is very beautiful with very detailed NON-Cartoony characters and animations. A lot of people have stated the that one reason they didn't go to WoW initially was because of the very cartoony look, those same people (myself included) really enjoy Aion ;) .

In regards to Controls, it is similar to WoW and is very intuitive imo. Macro customization is pretty awesome and you can bind keys up the yin yang.

I don't get why everyone has to go more realistic :\ imo realism is overrated :P it's why I'm <3'ing Battlefield Heroes or why I <3 TF2. Good ol' Cartoony fun.

As for controls being good yay :D and customization is good too.

I'm just sick of the whiners who come in here QQ'ing about how WoW is the mother of all games without reading into this new one at all. You saw a couple of pretty pictures and assumed the game was just like WoW. Many of us are pretty fucking tired of hearing that opinion with 0 substance to accompany it.

I said it looked a lot like WoW. You are the one who did the assuming.

If what you say is true and it mixes the best of WoW with the best of FFXI, it could indeed be a pretty badass game. I've been saying for years if FFXI had instances, a customizable interface and was a complete world with very few"zones", I probably never would have quit. And a tiny bit more solo friendly. The whole grouping theme is great and is the backbone of MMORPGs but they took it a tiny bit too far lol.

Yeah, many hardcore WoW players have done comparisons and they seem to state the same thing: on the surface, Aion may resemble WoW, but once you get your feet wet, you'll notice it becoming it's own entity. On a high level, Aion has zones, but it is seamless i.e. no loading screen unless you actually go to a different "country". This game is VERY soloable, even for the squishy WHM and BRD equivalent. Give the beta a shot (get a preorder beta key from Gamestop and try the beta tomorrow) and check it out.

The character models look nice but this seems oddly graphic intensive.

I'm going to correct myself. The environment as a whole looks about the same as wow but the battle and character models look graphic intensive.

hahaha "i mean seriously, is there any other reason you need to download this game right now other than you can BE fucking Wolverine?!"

That video was sick Jaz.

Also, how un-biased can his review really be when at the end of the second one there's a bunch of WoW footage by characters named AionSucks. >_>

It was sarcasm.

Also it was to prove that WoW has more than 1 starting zone.

Jesus.. freaking christ. I'm at 85% on this damn patch and I've been DL'ing it for probably an hour and a half if not longer. This totally blows. I wanna play Aion dammit. ><

I just leave the NCSoft Launcher running in the background and it autoupdates for me... got back from work and was all good to play!

i left mine on overnight on thursday and it got the full patch.

Moar pictures this time around plz. Still going back and forth if I want this game or not.

I'm the same way. I don't want to buy another game and have it end up like Warhammer. :\

It's nice to see a Korean game that's almost completely ripping off WoW's interface now :P but whatever. Are the controls decent? And the video options and such? I always hated that about other Korean games. Poor controls and/or not able to really work the video/sound setting as much

NCSoft using a similar UI of that from Lineage II, which predates WoW by over a year and is also developed by NCSoft? COPYCATS!

No screenshots from this weekend from me. Pretty tough to play when I had 32 hours of work over the course of three days. Only got about 3 hours of play time in between my 24 hour stint friday/saturday, my normal 8 hour sunday, sleep, and generally being burnt out.
