Aion- discuss

/sigh it's exactly like FFXI except you have a choice, to buy or to find. However, tryin' to find what can be bought ruins the spirits of findin' to me.

I believe when the say "Contribution Vendors" they are talking about Abyss points which aren't tradeable. You must earn abyss points through PvP or Abyss farming. When you hit the abyss, your faction has a fortress with vendors where you can purchase items utilizing abyss points. I was poking around in there and saw level 30 gear for upwards of 150K AP for ONE piece. I remember farming some skeletons in the abyss and they only dropped 12-15AP each, not to mention if you get ganked, you lose 40+ each death. I really enjoy farming in Aion, especially when something green or even blue drops.. holy crap the screams that were heard from my office when I got blue chain pauldrons off a mob that aggro'd me on my way to a farming area (I must have spent all day in another area trying to get those pauldrons but got jack shit). It felt like killing the Valk Emp and getting an Emp hairpin for the first time @ level 40.

I believe you only lose AP if you get killed by another player. And the amount you lose depends on your rank. If you die at the higher ranks you lose 5kAP per death, while you might only get 160 per kill. Although that also depends on the rank of the people you kill, everyone won't be highest though.

Ohhh yeahhh that's right Uzor, totally forgot about the ranking system and how that plays into this... Well at Rank 8 I was losing about 40-50 AP when I got ganked. I was so close to Rank 7, but I lost about 160 AP in about an hour thanks to those rifters.. No biggie though since it's only Beta.

cool vid on last page jazper, thanks for posting. reminds me of group pvp in wow in horde zones. my guild would just go and rape all the way through org

Thanks homie. I've been messing around with Fraps, Windows Movie Maker, and Youtube so I'll be uploading some better vids. Here are a couple I tossed up there for starters.

This one shows nice clouds in a the sky of Eltnen

Here's one with me PL'n my brother, JsnXtian, so he could get level 25. Those ancient maidengolems put out 9.5k exp per kill @ level 23! @ level 24, they put out 8k.

That's not much of a sellin' point you make there. I'm mindin' my own business farmin' AP and all of a sudden this douche bag comes up and I whip his ass. A little time passes and he comes back with ten buddies and some tea and I loose AP? Get that shit out of here. If they want customers, in the long run, they'll find a better way of doin' things.

That's not really what I was gettin' at though. I find PvP vendor loot is still as unfulfillin' to collect as normal currency loot. Any idiot can collect enough points, givin' time, to get anything. It's not the same as killin' a mob and seein' Ol' Glory in all her awe sittin' in your loot box.

My point wasn't to try to sell you on anything since ultimately, you already know if you're going to play a game or not regardless of what anyone says. My point was merely to point out the fact that like anything that pertains to "elite" gear, it will take A LOT of time and "work" to attain it. In this case with Aion, their play mechanics involve the whole forced conflict which currently plays a huge part in the work. Like you said, yeah it's f'n annoying when something interrupts farming time, and many have brought this up with NCsoft. I watched an interview with a senior dev where he stated that they're working on content for PvE'rs who aren't interested in the abyss but still want elite gear. Apparently, there will be a PvE way to attain elite gear, although it'll take a little longer than those who go the PvP route.

Closed Beta Event #5 July 31-August 3 Focus: Elyos and Asmodian levels 1-30

Ugh.. time to buy stock in 5hour energy. I really hope they reconsider and either, bust everyone to level 30 right off the bat so we can experience Temple excursions, new abilities, higher level quests and what not, give us a more time like a whole Beta Week, or keep the f'n cap at 25. I hear that levels 25-30 is a painful grind with the version of Aion currently on the beta servers...

I understand where you're commin' from man, it was just to good an opener to pass up. Don't get me wrong either, I love PvP. I even enjoyed WoW PvP no matter how broken people call it, I had fun. I like the idea of gainin' AP, just like in WoW you gained Honor. What I don't like is that when you get ganked your subjected to that kind of penalty, and honestly I don't see that settin' to well. Gankin' should not be rewarded and on the other end it shouldn't be penalized. I'm all down for gettin' ganked, PvP is PvP, it's just the penalty seems a bit much when you have absolutely no chance. It's almost not even worth goin' out in a PvP zone unless you have an army of people with you to farm, granted the game even keeps a hefty base after the new wears off.

Then again I could be blowin' it out of proportion. It could be that yeah, you loose a chunk when you get ownd, but you gain a huge amount as well when you kill people rather than mobs. Still too much to learn but I can't help but get cautious of where my money is about to go considerin' the time frame of the release is smack dab in the middle of just about every seemingly good game release for the years end.

Yeah I hear ya bra and yeah they have mechanisms in place so you're not repeatedly ganked. If I understand this correctly, (Skaw, Ana, Uzor - correct me if I'm wrong) but the amount of AP you're worth after a death/battle (within a time limit) decreases so it wouldn't be beneficial for the ganker to hang around. I even read somewhere on Aionsource that if you're farming, so back to your current status as just being in a battle with NPC mobs, your AP is worth squat to potential gankers as well. Some people are already whining about that fact since it gives farmers like you and me an escape route if we see a bunch of gankers headed our way i.e. run for aggro'n mobs, get aggro'd to be put in battle status, then jump off the cliff and fly somewhere safe, etc. They argue that as long as you have 100% hp, they should get the full AP upon your death. Whatever. Of course, there will always be those people who don't give a shit and gank you coz it's fun for them, but in that case it's on bitch :spiteful:.

That's goin' to be the case. It didn't matter if you were worth no honor in WoW, people just did it out of spite. Personally, I rarely ever killed someone under the level cap, unless I knew it was an alt of a douchebag, but most all people see red and click. I'm wonder if the AP gained from bein' farmed is reduced how about the guy recievin' the penalty. NCSoft usually makes good games, imo, though some of them a bit cheap, they are especially good in keepin' the casual player in mind. So with that, I hope they figure out a good balance. They know, as well as all of us, if a player is repeatedly ganked, hence crashin' the loss/gain of a worthy rate of AP, most people will stop playin' all together. If anyone knows it, it's NCSoft, that the majority of MMO players are not the ones in the big guilds with lots of time and people to dedicate to helpin' them out.

Strid, you likely won't be at a high AP rank below lvl 50. Thus, you won't lose a lot of AP when you die.

As for everyone being able to collect enough AP to buy the best gear, I doubt it. For osme of the gear you need 486k AP in order to buy. At this high rank you lose 5k AP every tiem you die. This means you will need to be very good at PVP in order to not die a lot, otherwise a whole day of AP farming could be wasted. The very best people get 10k AP a day. Even 1 death halves the time it takes them to get AP.

The best gear is just that, the best. Its not ment to be easy, and its not ment for everyone to wear. Unlike most other games, you can't cheat to get it. You need to be among the top 1% in order to even have a shot at getting it.

sob... they are really going to make me play another weekend marathon to hit 30?? bahh

Yeah man, unless they up the server version to 1.5 (more quests and more exp per kill/lessen the grind), I'm not going to focus on hitting level 30. I might hang in Theobomos and farm for Blue gear or Hell, I might just start working my level 10 Glad since Eltnen will most likely be jammed with Asmo Rifters trying to get their PvP on before hitting the grind. 3 days isn't enough time for 25-30 unless you're a bot ;).

don't think it will be an issue tbh. I got 1 full bar of exp every 10 min. That's 200 minutes per level. 16 hours for 5 lvls isn't too bad. Assuming 6 hours a day, that's roughly 3 days.

If you do whatever quests unlock for you, it'll be less.

i hate the exp grind in general, so right now im learning game mechanics. i refuse to get worn out on this beta grind when it would all be for nothing.

Hi Calais - to answer some of your questions quickly, Aether extraction is a totally different skill altogether. You have Gathering skill which you level with those fruits, vegetables, crystals, ores, fish, etc. Then you have Aether extraction which comes from abyss fragments and small/big vortices. Aether is used for crafting and can't be farmed until you actually have wings.

In regards to flight, I understand your point about it being a little overhyped, but after getting over that, you have to look at it more as a tool than a form of transportation. In the Abyss, flight is a huge thing. The abyss is flowing with Aether so right off the bat, you get a minium of 1 minute of continuous flight (level 25) which only increases with new wings, pots, equipment, etc. (at higher levels). The abyss is a HUMONGOUS multitiered zone where you can fly everywhere actually. There is a still the flight timer, but you can get around that by flying back and forth through what I call Aether rings that recharge your flight time by 5-7 sec increments. It has it's tactical and strategic uses in battle and can really make or break a fight.

Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I didn't really have an idea what the Abyss was like, besides a PvP area, but what you described makes both it and flight sound much cooler and way better balanced.

And yeah, I don't want to get worn out either.

tbh, I don't think I can partake in the next beta anyway, might be going away that weekend.

Problem with this is who cares about before 50? we're talkin' about end game items and the grind to get them, 50 is the subject level.

Whenever points are involved it's only a matter of time before people get what they want. The only thing that would make the items hard to get is if they have a rank requirement and some of the pieces require an extremely high rank. However, that can also be bypassed (more on that in my next paragraph). I'd also like to point out that their are no "best players" on our version and the ratios haven't even been set.

The best gear is just that, the best. Its not ment to be easy, and its not ment for everyone to wear. Unlike most other games, you can't cheat to get it. You need to be among the top 1% in order to even have a shot at getting it.

Commin' from a game like FFXI this statement is understandable, but wrong. The main problem with PvP gear bein' the best gear, or even close, is that it's too easy to cheat for. You can't stop it and it will happen. Need points or ranks? Set up a win/kill trade session with another guild of the opposin' faction. Arena got you down? Trade wins. I'm not sure what else you've been doin' other than FFXI but the "top 1%" has gotten a lot bigger lately.
