Aion- discuss

Seriously, it just sounds like too much work for such an easy fix haha.

It is ..extremely easy. *blinks and scratches his head* Changing to a different channel involves clicking your mouse about 3 or 4 times. Menu > (I think it was..) Support > Change Channel > pick a number and your off.

Usually the only channels that are busy are 1 and maybe 2.

Again, that is too much work involved just to get a quest item.

*blinks* Wow. ....Wow.

Maybe you forgot you used to play FFXI? lols. You know, remember that game where EVERY quest/quest item involved too much work and gave you a crappy reward.

Moving a to a different channel to get away from retards that are overcrowding you from completing your easy quest is so simple. o.O

This is the attitude that is ruining a lot of the newer games these days. Companies are forced to cater to casual players who don't want to earn their shit; expect it to be handed to them with minimal effort put in. The result is duller content for players like me who enjoy the challenge and competitiveness of progressing in MMoRPGs. Unfortunately, this trend will continue because it isn't economically viable to satisfy the wishes of players who enjoy the hardcore style gaming.

I'd love to see a company bold enough to bring back the days where quests meant exactly that-- you had to figure out the answer with no map markers to show you where to go next or respond to a game changing question without the aid of pregenerated responses that indicate which reply will yield the results you want. Fuck this panzy-ass WoW generation gaming. I don't know how some of you enjoy it when there is virtually no sense of accomplishment in getting anywhere in these games.

Not flaming you personally Trist but rather the idea that this is what way too many gamers are asking for these days. I wish they would make your style game for you and my style game for me rather than slowly (ok, not so slowly) diluting the difficulty of ALL of these new games.

Hopefully Aion resists the temptation to appease this kind of opinion as it 'westernizes' its product. It's pretty fucking weak.

You had to have missed my earlier post where I said it was kinda lame being able to locate persons for quests by simply clicking a button, then.

I get where you're coming from, and I am with you 100%. But I'm not looking for an easy out at all.

And as for you...

You're missing the point entirely. I'm not asking that they kill the wolf for me (man, what a shitty example), I'm not asking them to make the quest any simpler than it already is. It's a hard quest for a level 7 mage with shit-for-armor to do. I nearly got my butt handed to me by that wolf, just to watch a pussy Scout* come up and reap the benefit of my toil.

That, right there, is weak. I shouldn't have to combat other players to get an item off a mob I killed by myself with zero help, and I surely shouldn't have to exile myself to accomplish it either. In games where cooperative play is actually supposed to be a good thing, a solution of "jump districts/change channels" isn't a good way of showing it.

*No, not all scouts are pussies.

Crap like that happens in all games though. It's just something we need to live with. I just waited and did to someone else what was done to me. Yes, I'm part of the problem.

As opposed to simply asking in chat where they are? If theres one thing good about this, it's that there'll be no "WHERE'S MANKRIKS WIFE?!" chat spam. Vague quests become unvague as soon as they're completed by a single person.

Simply put, past day one, theres no reason to not tell/show you where you're supposed to go, since it'll be plastered all over the internet anyway. If you want to try and solve it for yourself regardless, theres always the option to not willfully click on the Locate button.

This really sounds like crying just to cry. Suck it up, tiny baby man.

Hmm, Well was this some random scout that just came in and started doing the most damage? Normally if the other person is not in your party, the loot goes to basically whoever did the most damage to the mob. It can suck.. but it happens. If the person was in your party, then I'm confused. Usually it spawns multiple items for quests like that as long as the person has it flagged.

An example would be okay, I need a special feather that drops off a type of mob. My group all kills them but maybe I didnt do much on a few of them yet they still die. I may not get to loot it initially, but the quest item will still be there for me to loot when I get a chance to loot it. Maybe this one quest wasn't like that, and that does suck. But all the quests I've encountered don't make a 1 loot only per kill unless it's someone outside your party and they happen to do the most damage to the same mob you're fighting. Generally though, even if they come in an snag the last hit, if you've been fighting it, the loot will still be yours.

Perhaps that one quest didn't work like that, infact now that I think about it. Asmodians have a quest like that where they have to kill a tiger, but the loot is in the chest behind it. If this is the case, then the idea is to wait for things to respawn and kill the tiger again to get to the box again. Ideally, you would take turns until everyone got their quest item. If this is the case, then yeah, that scout was just an asshole for taking the chest after you killed the mob.

But yeah, Scouts kinda are pussies. I hated leveling 1-10, I felt so weak compared to a warrior. No good attacks, even less defense. Yeah.. pretty wimpy. At level 8 or 9, I dueled my friend who was a mage of the same level. I got rocked hard, didn't even stand a chance.

If Trist was an Elyos, I know which Mob he's talking about, it's in a little cave from where you can get the transport flyer just before the forest and mining area if I remember correctly. What happens is there's a chest/thing that only has the item you want once you've killed the NM in question and anyone can pick it up, like in Trist's example he did the work while someone else benefited.

Or I've read stuff wrong and sound like an idiot...

lol. Lord, some of you people really are that thick.

Cool thread where you can discuss aspects of a game that you like and dislike, but can't really discuss what you don't like. Maybe I'll change channels and go to one where I can

I think he's Asmodian :P

Quest's called "Black Pearl", and you need to open a chest in a cave protected by a lion. The chest itself isn't a spawn from the tiger, the tiger just protects it.

Really, though, the respawn of the chest is shorter then that of the tiger-lion-wolf, so if someone steals it, you can just sit on top of it and wait for it to respawn, as it respawns every minute <.<;

You can discuss what you don't like if you were forced to use it. Locating is entirely optional, and whining that it makes things too easy for you is really just being a giant crybaby. It isn't even used by default for Christ's sake. Do you shed tears when you see an Easy difficulty in a video game and curse the developer for making you have to play it even though theres Normal and Hard modes?

I didn't even say they were forcing it to be used.

The fact that it's there is laughable to me, what the hell is difficult about understanding that?

You really do just look for reasons to get in arguments, don't you?

Sorry Trist, but I agree with Skaw. There's no reason to cry about it since you can simply choose to not use it.

You say it is laughable they even have it there. Let me ask you, why? Because you think people are lazy and pathetic for using it? Why does that bother you? Because it allows them to complete things faster if you choose not to use it?

Don't feel like you have to apologize to me.

I'm telling you people collectively about a feature that I think cheapens quests. I told you about that because you thought I was being lazy in that I wanted the game to be open, but not turn into a mass Dynamis where anyone can grab an object (as in that particular quest - something like that early on ingame will make or break someone's desire to actually play, I don't give a shit who you are), and I wanted to clarify that it wasn't that way.

Yet I'm being told I'm crying about a feature...that I feel cheapens quests by telling you not only the same information that's available in the quest logs, but by actually physically pointing you to the person without you even having been to the area, rather than say, highlighting the area they're in. If you were to have to pay for the location, maybe it wouldn't be so bad, and would be a little more like actually prying someone for information, rather than hitting your magic omniscient compass.

I don't think people are necessarily pathetic or lazy for using this tool, I just think it can garner laziness somewhat.

To the OP: This thread should have been titled "Aion - Discuss, but not stuff you don't necessarily like", because that's what it is by this point.

It doesn't always tell you where it is. Sometimes it just says "<name> is at a hard to find place", or just shows one of the many locations the NPC can be at.

Either way, some people are utterly lazy and stupid and either don't read the quest log, or don't understand what it says. The ammount of times I got asked in WoW where to go for a quest (when its explained very well in the quest log; eg "North west of that town by the water near the statue") can't even be counted on all the bones in my body. If this means I don't have to get spammed by stupid people asking for directions rather than just reading the quest log, it'll make me that much happier.

Possibly, and I can also relate to that. It's one of the reasons I left the big blue "M" off my name in FFXI while in Windurst (granted, I only had this problem in 2006, really).

I do remember it being vague a couple of times, but I, personally, think it's kinda silly. It goes against one of the tenets of the fantasy genre - having a quest with only having a vague notion of where to go or just a name to find.

Ideally, the quest should provide hints at where to go next via the dialogue/story without pinpointing the exact location. As someone pointed out, there will always be info floating around after the first few people figure it out, but the initial challenge of being the first to follow the clues is awesome.

Remember EQ1 epic weapon quests when they first came out? How badass was that first Fiery Avenger you saw? Knowing the guy had followed the clues to get to the end. I ran all over the world trying to be among the first to do my ranger epics and to this day it stands out as one of the biggest accomplishments in my gaming career. Duel weilding those lightning blades when most rangers had no chance at getting the second of the two was a great sense of achievement.

These newer games have sucked the essence of achievement right out of the questing aspects of the games. Almost every quest in these games is some trivial exp/money source perfectly mapped out for you to just mindlessly follow.

It's a pretty dull experience, hence my pissing and moaning when the whiney WoW fuckers come in here asking for it to be easier.

You seriously can't be the only one who gets what I'm saying, in terms of (yes, bring difficulty to the quests, but also make it somewhat fair).

lol, I don't have them broadly-sweeping powahs.
