Akira 1988 Anime film to be live action..

Eh, I was never a big fan of the anime; I'm curious how they'll do it though. Definitely a lot of CG.

As of now, DiCaprio is not expected to star in the films.
Hey, at least he's not staring in them.

One major change is that the action will be set in New York City this time around, instead of Tokyo.
This really pissed me off though. I will not see it because of this alone.

That and its to be a franchise movie???? One of at least two expected to be out in summer 09. Why the hell do you have to take one great movie and split it up -_-

Akira was a great anime, but it was never what it could've been if they did it more like the MANGA. I hope the movies include what happened after Akira's 2nd explosion, The Great Tokyo Empire! ;D

This movie can be good (being optimist, I know hollywood will mess it up)... ; ;

This is has nothing to do with the movie, but what the hell is wrong with Leonardo DiCaprio? Have you people even watched his last few films?? The kid grew into a great actor. "Catch me if you Can", "Gangs of New York", and "The Departed" were awesome films. "Aviator" isnt my cup of tea, but I heard his acting was just fine in it.

Plus that article said Producing. That is neither acting, nor directing the film.

Hey guys, lets take a classic anime. Now lets mangle the plot beyond recognition and put the place of occurrence on a totally different continent. But lets keep the same name, that way it'll be the same thing. Right?

Right?!

TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! KAAAAAA-NEEEEEEE-DAAAAAAA! Kaori, I can feel her pain!

This movie will probably be an epic failure.

DiCaprio really shines in the movie "The Beach". If you haven't seen it, you are missing out.

Um, yeah. This news made me sad and super sad at the same time. There is almost no chance of this movie being any good. I'm sure it will look nice, but everything else about the movie is going to be raped to death in an alley.

I can't believe they tried to get the "Catwoman" guy to direct it. What the fuck were they thinking?

Hey, if you're going to fuck up a great movie, one might as well go balls out.

That's a good point. Maybe they can get Will Farrell and Jack Black to play Tetsuo and Kaneda. They can have the guy who wrote "Click" write the screenplay.

I wouldn't mind a live action Akira movie. I think it would be best to have an asian cast though.

If Peter Jackson was gonna direct it, and Weta Digital were to do the visual FX, i'd then be really excited over this.

Hey, it worked with Godzilla*. Oh wait....

(*Disclaimer: I know Godzilla wasn't an anime.)

and Brian Denehey(sp?) as the Colonel.

I wonder if everyone will have american names, since itll be in new york and not tokyo.

Timmmmmmmmothy!!!!!
Kennnnnnnnnnnneth!!!!!!

I'm not knocking down DiCaprio, more so the fact that when Americans take scripts like Akira they really do rape them and change them completely so that they American public might try and 'understand' them when quite possibly there was nothing to understand to begin with. This happens to many movies American takes from other countries and it saddens me that this would happen to Akira.

And yes, I agree that if Peter Jackson and Weta were to work together to make this movie I would be excited and wanting to go so it. But the fact that they now have it set in New York, like I said in my other post, is probably the main reason I will not see this movie.
