Didn't want to derail the SportsCenter thread so I figured I'd start base wars here.

My predicted AL East standings for the end of 2008?

1. Rays
2. BoSox
3. O's
4. NY
5. Jays

Discuss.

I agree. Management did a great job with the rays, as much as I hate admitting it. However, our Orioles may suffer the annual "Post All-star break" collapse. We'll see. I'm impressed with our team; for the most part they're young kids fighting and playing hard. They don't have the big price tags and experience other teams have.

I am actually scared of the Rays. Last year I was pumped because they were an easy series win. HA! Not anymore. Now I would MUCH rather see the Yankees than the Rays.

Posted my extended thoughts in the other thread, but

Sox
Rays
Yanks
Jays
O's

No offense to the O's, but the Jays have good enough pitching to turn it up a notch, I think. They've majorly underachieved this year.

So you're telling me the underachieving team that cut its best slugger is going to beat a young team with one of the two or three best bullpens in baseball?

Nope.

Nope.

Frank Thomas is not nearly as good a hitter as Vernon Wells.

How about the Blue jays starting pitching compared to the O's starting pitching? I'll take the Jays.

Yup.

Far too early for me to make some type of call here... Can easily go any way.

Rays have tons of young tallent, and more in the minors waiting to come up... I just cant go off of that alone. Youth is there advantage and disadvantage. For the record... The Washington Nationals had a record very very similar to the Rays at this very date three years ago. They finished with less then 85 wins... Thats all that needs to be said, Rays can easily collapse. They coud go the way of the Marlins under Beckett also.

Sox are not the team of last year. They get an A for effort as they have dealt with tons of adversity so far this year and still are right were they need to be. Their young pitchers have stepped up as old hitters collapsed. To be honest again ya cant call it... They have a bunch of vets that when push comes to shove, may play above their own abilities. Could easily be a different story depending on health issues.

Yanks are almost an incredible story to me. They have had tons of injuries to key players... More so then any other team in the league. Add the fact they just plain were not playing well for a while. The dream young staff they spoke of fell apart for the most part in the making... And yet... They are still were they need to be... Honestly its quite amazing. 15 games out of first last year only to bring it back to 1 game back. Ya just never know.

These positions for the top three will come down to our games against each other. I would say the Rays will get the better half of these series. This thread will be very interesting in about a week. Keep it alive.

Ya to early to tell. Hoping for the rays to go all the way if marlins don't.

I would love to say I could put my Yanks at the top, but I don't see it happening this year. I'm not even feeling a Wildcard this year. They are too damn old.

Wow.

After the last Red Sox ass whippin, the Yankees have dropped to 4th on the 4th of July. When was the last time they were this low in the standings this late in the year? They are old and have no pitching. Fin.

You must be like 17 years old? Am i right? Am i right??

EDIT: Had to edit so i dont feel like a second Brydan in this forum. I am going to actually try to add something, unlike your random posts of hatred lol.

Just LAST year... To answer your question about when was the last time they were in this position... In fact it was worse last year.

42-43 last year at the All-Star break and 10 games behind the Redsox, a veteran team...
Not that its a given to happen again, but need i remind you how the second half of the season went for Yanks?

Which brings me back to my original comment. You must be like 17 right? You clearly only see only whats right in front of you and blow off the fact that anything happens in sports.

You were thinking the Patriots would go 19-0 weren't ya? Weren't ya???

Considering it's talking about the now; not what could be or should be. So, some kid telling a man that he "must be like 17" is kinda funny and sad all at once. Of course he's hating on other teams. That's what real fans do. Welcome to professional sports and passionate fans jackass.

If you try and honestly tell me that you thought the Giants were the better team going into the Superbowl, I would have to call you a liar. Underdog, determination, all that stuff completely seperate.

Anyways, why does this thread have to be degenerating into a flame? lol. I'm a huge Yankee hater and I've been willing to admit(and I have admitted) that it's very possible they make a huge charge and come back, although I have also stated that I think they'll fall a bit short, due to lack of pitching.

Come now guys, lets be a bit more mature.

THE MARLINS>RED SOX BECAUSE THEY HAVE BIGGER BATS!@!!!@!@!

Seriously though it's gonna be the Sox and Rays coming out of that division when the playoffs come around, any place after that doesn't matter. More importantly that's less time that I have to hear about the Yankee's season.

And for the sake of my own personal discussion, I'm pretty psyched about the Marlins. This season definently isn't going to be their season, but that's a damn good enough lineup to build off of. Dan Uggla is a sexy mothefucker.

Stfu, no one likes you anyways. Although I do find it comical that the Mets have never had a no-hitter, and the 13year old(I think... 1995, right?) Marlins have had 4 already.

1993

and yes the Mets of full of lawl. They try so hard...

I WILL feel ripped off if the Rays and BoSox meet in the playoffs and there isn't a single brawl.

There won't be a brawl because the Rays are going to beat Anaheim in 5, the Sox are going to sweep the White Sox, and the Red Sox will reset with Beckett then Lester then Daisuke, and throw Buchholz(who WILL make the postseason roster) and sweep the Rays, so there'll be no drama.

...do you ever get any work done?

No, of course not. Also, who the hell has the 4th Marlins no-hitter? Kevin Brown, AJ Burnett, and Anabel Sanchez... can't remember the 4th. Unless Brown has thrown two? I dunno....

Edit: Looked it up, it was Al Leiter. D:

Al Leiter back in '96. Remember him? We could use the pitching right now ; ;
