the following time, we will be performing maintenance on all Worlds. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XI will be unavailable.

We ask that players who are scheduled to enter Assault or Salvage areas, Dynamis or Limbus at the time of the maintenance wait until it is complete before entering. Please note that we cannot replace items that are lost during the maintenance process.

Thank you for your patience.

* The client software will also be updated at this time. Once this maintenance is completed, the client update will start automatically after logging back into FINAL FANTASY XI. Please follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

Short version:

An experienced hacker/coder found an exploit withing the game mechanics and wrote a program that could cause dissconections. He demonstarted he could by disconecting everyone within range at yesterdays besieged. He also Dced 4 of Edens tanks when they were fighting aspid, DCed all the fish botters in Batilla and when he was in Jail showing a GM what he could de GM as well.

The Batallia Downs fishing bots? Those are on every server, ours included... have been for awhile now. They are easy to MPK though, with the tiger NMs from that chocobo quest... or a Goblin Digger. I killed 3 myself. XD
 
he did tell the gm how to fix it and how its work so ya .. he did have fun with it
 
typical... Maintenance has to start right when my half day of work is over... :rtfm:
 
EDIT: Just realized the OP already mentions the player causing mass d/c during Besieged, as well as d/cing a LS's tanks while they were fighting Aspid.

Needless to say, I was laughing my balls off as I read that thread on BG. Quite legend.

since he was the creator, would not that make it a 1st party program...? :rtfm:

1st party would be from SE themselves, 3rd is an outside, generally crappy producer of anything that can be used with the game
 
That is 100% amazing. Real nice of the guy to point out the hole for SE so this can't get into the wrong hands and cause way more damage though.

Any of you hackers have any idea how he pulled this off?

right, i was gonna edit this in, but iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii submit, that it can be no more than a 2nd party program. Since he, is in fact, the creator. There exists SE and him, no 3rd party. :biggrin: Semantics are fun.
 
No wonder I kept d/cing all the way from out here :P That or it was just my crappy router, but besides that. Sucks maintenance had to happen now because of this idiot. Just woke up to get on and now it's 2 hours maintenance... boo!
