We all know that the allah boards are owned by IGE now.
I remember when allah started having pop ups specifically from a.tribal.fusion <sp>, way back to when it got purchased by IGE...

Now when i goto FFXI.somepage.com, im getting pop ups by the above mentioned company/link(thing?). This is recent (within past couple months)... somepage didn't have pop-ups ever previously, but with the previous few months, they've gained them.

This is speculation, but from my "Spyware Nuker" program, i visited Allah boards, got a pop-up, scanned my comp, and wrote down the companies from which the spyware is from. Then i went to Somepage.com and did the same. guess what? they're identical...

I'm not sure, but it seems to me that somepage could have been bought out behind the scenes as well. I know it's kind of stupid to say that 'since they have the same spyware companies, they're both linked by the owners'... any thoughts on this?

somepage was owned by IGE and co. before Alla was. So far, MysteryTour is the best non-gilseller information site right now.

bah, didn't know IGE owned somepage :/

well then....

Yeah, it's becoming harder and harder to find reliable sources of information that aren't brought to you by IGE and their band of RMT. Mysterytour and FFXIcyclopedia are nice, but they just don't get the volume of users that Alla and Somepage get that provides so much information.

It's a shame really..

I didn't know that IGE owned somepage, but then I didn't care when IGE bought alla either. It's not hard to ignore the gil selling ads, or turn them off with some of the extensions on firefox. I understand that people don't like IGE, I don't like them either; but it's not like the information is any less valid because IGE bought the website that hosted the information. And as long as you're not clicking on those gil buying ads, you're not supporting them either.

I agree with this. Somepage is probably the most well organized website. To hell with who owns it. IGE employees (gilsellers) are not the ones who maintain it, so the information is just as accurate. They have the best item database quality and update rate of any ffxi info page. Just because there's a few IGE ads on the page, it's no reason to forgo use all together. As Baja said, I had no idea that IGE owned it because firefox doesn't allow me to see any of the ads on that page at all, same with Alla (though I've known they were owned).

Or someone that has a website who has a google listed site and knows that if someone clicks the ad off to the side, it costs $1

Gilseller owned or not, i still use the information from both of these sites much more than any other FFXI site out there. The reason i like alla is for the forums right below each item/quest/whatever, and Somepage for its maps mainly. I dont use anything else, nor would i have a reason to...even if the site i use is owned by *gasp* RMT.

Somepage gets it's maps from . I mainly use sompeage because I've got the quick search toolbars for somepage in my firefox toolbar. I don't really care who owns it, the information is correct and easily accessable without shoving gil selling ads on me; but that might just be because I use firefox.
