I don't know if it is just me but I find unoriginal names piss me off. I'm talking like Sephiroth, Sypheroth, Sephyroth, Saphyroth, so on and so forth. They arent Sephiroth and they never will be. I sure hope the original person who amazingly got the name is at least damn good. Not just the over-used ones either. I am pretty sure everyone on the board has a reasonably original name so I'm not too worried. Maybe that is just another quirk of mine or something. Just curious where others stand...

Has anyone noticed the abundance of Japanese players who name their characters really odd things? I've seen: Eat, Work, and a whole bunch of others. Anyone got any to add? Every time I see these I laugh a bit.
The way I see it is that a characters name really doesnt bother me (heck I named myself the Hamburgler it just seemed right for a taru, but I get tells all the time complimenting my choice hehe) But the millions of Sephroths(sp) and Clouds running around is kind of dumb because your character is suposed to be unique to you, not a carbon copy of some other character in a game. But to be fair I think the Sephroths and Clouds are kicking themselves every time they run by another one of their clones. I've met someone with a mule named Hamburglar and we just laughed and wondered where Grimmace was. And besides, I dont really mind if people think my name is unorigional, its my dollar, not theirs

I really do not pay attention to it. If someone wants to name themselves after a videogame character or something else then its their right. They are paying 12 dollars a month to play, the same as we all are. If these type of things piss you off then maybe you ought to stick to console games. I have played with a few with these names and they really are good players. Its their buisness what they want to know their character. What is this a Nazi video game? Are they messing you up from living in your fantasy world? Grow up please. This is just a video game where people from all over the world can join in and play. Names do not matter unless they are against the rules of conduct.
Dodge is right, but it is a bit drab....just gets kind of boring. I've seen Eat before...i LOVE his name. But theres ppl like Sephirothus that are really nice guys and do their part to give back to the community, so whats in a name? It would be great if ppl came up with their own names and even went the extra mile to create a story to their char, bt its a pipedream, wont ever happen.
some names just make me think "what the hell was he/she thinking?" others i find quite amusing

I like some of the weird yet funny names I see around. My favorite one of those I've seen is probably Jaredfromsubway. All the Cloud's and Sephiroth's do get kind of old, but it's only a name.
a friend of mine was starting a party in yuhtunga a while back and there was a whm shouting that he was looking for a party and my friend sent me a tell that said "i wouldn't invite anyone named goatnuts to my party if my life depended on it" i got a good laugh out of it

As if "Wow, that's Gallladriell, like in lord of the rings! that's so awesome! She must REALLY like the character to go so far as to take the name even though someone else had it before! That's the kind of forward thinking I want to support!"
