I Am Legend was disappointing, and that tacked-on piece-of-shit ending is the main reason. It was pretty amazing up to that point (other than the awful CGI vampires) and Will Smith was knocking it out of the park.

They should have used that ending instead.

Yeah, just confused as to why he didn't take the girls blood though...

You know, to make a cure and all.

Did you see the size of the needles he was using? She's bigger and knows where to kick.

The whole movie was disappointing. I didn't even stay for the end. It's like they took the original book (which is great) and threw it out the window.

I don't know which ending was better. first one while shocking that the main char died made more sense the the 2nd one.

The CG in this movie was stunning. How they made New york look with all the cars all around empty, grass in the street, was great. Biggest downfall in this movie is there was no real back story on the dark stalkers. The scene where the alpha stalker set a trap make you think intelligence, yet there continues bashing there head onto a wall make you think no intelligence. Both endings left you with no resolve of if the issue was ever solved, or if the stalkers where zombies(no intelligence), or animals(can function on more then just instinct).

Spoiler:

Hmm... Forgive me for spoiling the book... But originally the vampires who caught the disease, but didn't die (as opposed to the reanimated, partially decomposed dead) retained their intelligence. In the book the main character hunted them down by day, thinking them to be horrible beasts, but in reality he was murdering them and he became something of a legend. Like a reverse Dracula. That's what really made the book so interesting and so different. (it was originally written sometime in the fifties.)

I wonder why they switched it because they use the scene where the main vampire dude is like next to him with his mouth open in the trailers. I kept wondering when that seen would happen in the movie and was sad when it didn't. I liked that ending better i think.

I just saw this movie this afternoon for the first time and I gotta say I definately like this ending way better, the original one I thought was kinda stupid. That whole deal where the chick and the kid hide in that little cubby hole and Smith sacrifices himself...wtf? He could have hid in the hole and just tossed the gernade out and closed the door, problem solved. There was no need for any great sacrifice, it wasn't noble or honorable in anyway, it was fucking retarded(suicide).

my husband and I were sorely disappointed with this movie...

Well that would not have worked because if even 1 survived they would have came after them which he explains. My guess they did this to leave no question that there would not be a sequel. Best way to kill a story is to kill the main char.

And so how does holding the gernade in your hand make for more kills than lobbing it into the middle of the crowd?

He had nothing left to live for. He basically stayed alive because he kept telling himself and everyone else that he could still "fix it". He lost everyone he cared about and was even trying to commit suicide until he was saved. In the end, his vaccine worked and he felt his mission in life was over. He said he started to "listen" and was ready to go on.
Plus he a legend not a savior, he had to die. In the second version it is human kind that is the legend. BTW anyone else notice that fred head moves in the mannequin on the street scene did not even notice it until reading about it.
