LS are for losers ;)
Hello everyone,

I have began to mine in (Zehrun Mines) on a intensive basis to afford an astral ring for my PAL (aaah, the galkan MP pool ... ). Reading a lots a forums on FFXI i'm pretty aware of miners etiquette and I think i respect it (don't use mining points already taken).
When two miners see a mining point, I thought that the unofficial rule here was : "First on the mining point take it".
/rant on
So anyone know WHY, when I win, ppl sometimes slap me (and in certain case begin to follow me and steal my mining points ?) :x
/rant off

Simple. Because they're still in diapers. Or think Final Fantasy XI is another "Kiddie RPG" (I.E. : One of my friend's first time on FFXI... They thought that Carbuncle & Mandragoras were rip-offs of Pokemon.)

Another possibility is "In-Game Racism" (Yes, it DOES exist. People discriminating against you just because of your character's race... Like how people laughed at me for being an "Elvaan Mage" ... And yet my White Mage is PAST Lv. 40... So I must be doing SOMETHING right, huh?)

But anyway. As far as people following you deliberately... That is rude. Just do what everyone else does.

Open your menu. Open your Equip screen. De-Equip and Re-Equip a piece of visual armor real fast. That shakes off any "/follow"s that people have on you. Either that, or casting Invisible on yourself.

Tenkax did it to shake off Seppeku.

I did it to shake off people harassing me while I was running through Valkurm Dunes (Don't wanna stay there too long anymore).

You should too.

Either that, or adopt my "Oh well; Deal with it." attitude.

People use to do that same thing to me also. And often even if I reached the spot first they would still mine it anyway. It's to the point now where if I see a spot and theres anybody else near me who I even think sees the spot also. I just don't even bother and go find another spot. It's just not worth it to me.

No matter what and where you go, there is always going to be an @ss that messes it up for everyone.

thanks everyone for the answers (i was really wondering if I missed something). I will follow your advices : dont bother anymore and mine ... mine ... and mine again ;)

My personal policy, when arriving at a mining point at what seems to be the same time as another player: /random. High /random wins the point.

Do people actually do this with me? 1/10, yeah. One guy last night in Gusgen (Blace) hit a point at the same time I did. He was swinging his pickaxe before he even stopped moving, giving me no time to talk it out with him. So, we mined the point together :)

After this, he followed me for two full minutes spamming me with /checks.

Blace examines you.
Blace examines you.
Blace examines you.

Holy crap, guy. You were just as much in the wrong as I was...

Not that there aren't tons of people who will mine where you are because they're jerks, but here's something to keep in mind: FFXI can display your position relative to people very close differently from player to player. That is, in my screen, it may look like I'm a few paces ahead and you're following me, while on yours it may look like you're ahead by a few and I'm following you >< . So to the other guy it may look like he was ahead, and you followed him and took the mining point from under him.

It could possibly be that anesly ... That's true that FFXI has problems synchronising positions for all players and mobs in real time ...

Thanks for your advice keits, thats a pretty good idea, but a bit long to use (must tell the guy, do the /random ... generally the guy has already begun mining ...) so I have changed my policy. Is someone is as near as me ... I let him take it ... generally it's quicker (in zerhun mines) to find the next free mining point.
