Ambusher Antlion, how I hate thee!

I need some help, this NM is more elusive then L.T. on crack. In fact, I've never actually seen the damn thing and I've camped it plenty of time, for multiple hours, including 6 hours this morning.

Now everywhere I look I find some misinformation about it's pop condition and no one seem to actually know for sure but rather copy/paste what they red somewhere else. At first it was /heal on a specific crack in the Chasm, then it's kill all Trench Antlion within 5 minutes and finally, it's a lottery pop from Trench Antlion, 2-4 hours.

So I'm asking anyone who actually FOUGHT it, how the hell did you make it pop and where? And how long did it take. This Jupon is one of the very few piece of gear I still want for Ranger and I'd appreciate any help.

Oh and please refrain from "this Jupon sucks" or "don't waste your time with this piece of crap gear" comments. I know the stats, I want it for my own reasons ^^.
 
I remember's Zoolander's post about this on the BG forums. Trying to find it for ya, but I'm not having any luck. Maybe you can try asking him.

I think he went 1/1 once he got the info on how to make it pop.
 
According to FFXI Encyclopedia it's Lottery spawn from the Trench Antlion in that area. Apparently it spawns around E-8 and E-9; it is one of the "hiding" type of Antlions, that crawl out of the ground to aggro occasionally. If you find this information to be in error please post what you find out otherwise here so that others can find this bugger when they want it and the FFXI Encyclopedia entry can be updated as well. ^^
 
The info was kinda useful, although its still difficult to get an accurate idea of where and what to do from all the stuff I got from that thread.

Ok, I've popped and killed this thing 10times now and have it down to a science. There is only one PH that is on a 5min pop timer. It is in F-8 in a small cubby hole area near the Teir1 Corse. Basically from the corse area get into the F-8 square. You will see a Corse near a scorpion pop, head west due west from there just a few paces and look to your northish. You will see a circular area that's view is blocked by a rock. Trench Antlion pops there.

Keep popping that Trench Antlion until it does not pop anymore at all. It is on a 5min pop timer. When that Antlion stops popping you know that the Ambusher is active. At this time, go rest on any and all cracks in E-8. If you have /healed on all cracks, it still hasn't spawned and the PH's are popping still. Spend about 30min killing the Trench Antlions that pop in the Northern area of E-8, you will probably find them while trying to pop Amubsher the first time if you aren't sure where they are already.

When we popped it, once we found the right crack it instantly popped. The PM was prolly the most useful information. Hard to remember exactly what we did, but follow the PM instructions and you should get him eventually.

Pretty easy fight as well as long as your ready for it to pop.
 
Hey Zoolander got me my Jerkin! GL. We got really lucky and just found him. Remember to heal on the cracks, just running over them will not pop them.

Edit: I told a few people about that cubby theory and it supposedly works. The PH's should spawn up top of where Citipati should spawn if I remember correctly. And if they stop spawning you should check all the cracks in the area by healing on them.

Yep, finally got this sucker! :) Thanks for all the info and much thanks to Zethren, Lexxi, Eddiemush, Wulfgar and Neyla who came to help with it, really appreciate it.

The PM is on the money, there's only one PH and once you found it, keep killing till it doesn't respawn. I kill it for abot an hour before the rest came up and we killed it maybe 4-5 more times so keep at it if it keeps repopping.

Btw I saw a screenshot of someone with the camera above their character, pointing at the ground, and you could see Ambusher between the cracks, lurking at him. Can be a way to find it before you /heal every feet in E-8.
