An idea...

Was thinking of this and first I want to say that everyone has had some great ideas and thanks to the OP for bringing this up.

One thing I thought is awesome would be (like Rorschach said) having "charged" or "enchanted" items. That way you have to pick and choose when to use them, especially because it's going to cost you gil. Another bonus to this is it would help crafting which I think would be awesome since some deam it 'dead'.

Another thing I was thinking was what if you had an item like an empress band where you could use it once (or even twice) a day where it would cap your lvl so you could party w/friends. Since your on a charge you don't get to abuse it. Possibly make it like 5k exp a day? Just a thought.

I'm all for abuse-protection, that's why personally I believe it should be limited to level 75's. Whats to gain from xpng at capped level? Nothing, really. Hard to exploit. Still need a reason for people to bother getting capped then, and there steps in the merit-like system.

I'm all for anything. But I really want S-E to do something. I love FFXI, I've quit and come back several times. I've meet a lot of cool friends who have left or contacted me in other mmo's or games (I'm always Sanjo everywhere since it's rarely taken.), and I still have a lot of people like blackmagik and grafh and so that act as if no time has passed between us.

I hate to see the game slowly die before it's time. It's going to happen, going to be rough times when Age of Conan, Warhammer, Aion, Huxley, and Spellborn come out, triple the trouble if they don't end up sucking.

But S-E is killing itself ahead of time via it's own damn xp system. And if a solution isn't in the works there damn well should be. Also their making a next-gen mmo does not count as a solution. (Though I'm curious as to what it is.)

Make static parties.

Those are hit or miss and with all the end-game now. It's an extremely slow leveling process since only 2 maybe 3 days are open to level. They just need to make "Easy Prey" actual "Easy Prey" when you're like, 30+. Since I know it's near impossible to solo EP at higher levels. And if you can, the down time is pathetic. They need to make it like 1-10 but 1-75 or at least a high enough level where all jobs are liked. I'm a DRK, I get a party once every 3 days about. I hate it, I'm looking up a place after this on where there are mobs with pets I can solo but it would be extremely slow. So yeah, statics are a huge drag on fast leveling and almost as slow as soloing. So it's not really worth it. And to add solo capabilities to me, would be semi-nice. I like the fact of not having to wait, but then soloing makes it boring when there is no one to talk with or anything like that. Though the "guilds" on FFXI vs the Guilds on WoW talk A LOT more. I see it as, more mature people play FFXI, and all that little ones, play WoW, though on WoW, it's Little kids > Alliance : Mature people > Horde

What about leveling in CoP areas?

Also their making a next-gen mmo does not count as a solution. (Though I'm curious as to what it is.)

Especially if no one from this game goes to the next one since we've been burned pretty badly from their less then stellar handling of this game. I really dont plan on even looking at the next game they are making because I expect that it'll be more of the same useless crap.
ie. -Bad customer service
- few and far between updates
- lack of caring about the userbase until its too late
- they dont know how to follow player trends until they've completly written themselves in a corner
- dead slow work against RMT
- inability to make a decent powercrawl with gear leaving items that are 4 years old more desirable then gear in their latest expansion(not counting Wings obviously)or make the gear even semi reasonable to attain; Making mobs who have a % chance to pop coupled with a % chance to drop an item with a % chance to appraise for the item you want is NOT a reasonable solution to getting people out of sky.
- Protip: If you make a mob that even your DEVs cant kill, i'm guessing with all the best gear+relic too, in a reasonable time then admit you've made a poor mob and fix him. Dont add an item after the fact and say "ok, here ya go hope it works this time".

There are more, but these are the big ones i can come up with off the top of my head. I wanted to add something about the economy, but according to Lewis Black "no one knows how the economy works...." so I'll let it slide :P

I probably didn't go into detail enough to explain what I was thinking. I'll try a hypothetical situation.

Let's say the item is called a Locked Band (ring). It allows higher lvl players to drop the level of a job to that of a friends they want to party with. You can equip let's say at 37
So one night you LFG on your 43 Drg for 2hrs and nothing comes up so you scan your Friends list and so and so is on and wants to exp they're 64 War. With the Locked Band the 64War is now a 43War and can duo with the 43Drg.

Same use would be applied to 75s so the exp could be used for limit points for merits.

I haven't really thought deep into it as I'm sure many problems could be pointed out with an item like the hypothetical Locked Band. Biggest probably being gear.

I completely agree. I'm sure tons of people, especially ones that want to level jobs that aren't the flavor of the month feel this way.

To be quite honest, the biggest problem would be xp camps. People wouldn't bother , for example, leaving colibri at 74 or maybe even crawler's nest at 60. There'd be no reason to anymore because you can go wherever you want and xp there at any level. Thats why I don't wanted the capped peeps to gain pointful xp, hence the level 75 restriction that means xp is really only used a buffer.

I understand where you're coming from with your idea, and hell it'd probably work, I just see too many ways it'd hurt then help when people exploit it.

I kind of agree with you, FFXI had a lot of problems, that's fact. S-E took their sweet time, but solutions have been and are being instated. Content update isn't so slow either, it's about the same average as other mmo's. Problem fixing updates are a bit slow though and it's annoying.

I might play their nextgen mmo, I won't judge until I try it. There's always that smart hope S-E learned a lot from FFXI and will try to nip a lot of things in the butt with their next attempt.

As for economy, mmo economies make me cry somethings so I won't go there. Lewis Black was so right, lol.

But this is a dangerous time for mmo's, FFXI is showing it's age in the face of the newcomers, wow's complete regard for fresh content in favor of giving more of the same exact stuff assuming what people have liked for the last 2 years they will like for the next 2. Those two alongside LoTRO are the mainstream mmo too...

Something needs to happen, and if nothing else, I hope one of those 4 mmo do something right.

I like the idea of being leveled capped to help out friends a lot, but I think the hinderance of losing exp or merits is a turn-off as well. Unless people gain decent experience/merits out of it, it's no different than asking for PL for 75 levels.

From what i've heard from people who've played WoW, Blizzard updates the game on a weekly basis or somewhere near that. I'm not saying I want an update every week, but the only time we get 2 updates relatively close to one another is when they screw up badly.

As to their content, look at Wings. 30 dollars for reskinned areas, like 5 new mobs, 17 quests/missions/story total(talk about letdown) and have people even found merit camps worth a damn compared to ToAU yet? I'm not complaining about the lack of gear because it just started, but as for areas/missions/mobs you'd think it'd have more then what we got when you just start out. Now it has some good points dont get me wrong, campaign is great, and it looks like it has alot of potential. I really want to see what they do with it later on.

Wow doesn't get updates that often, and they have the same problem. Usually their updates screw up stuff more then fix, for a few exceptions when it's neutral. (like adding voice chat.)

Give WoTG some time, we didn't have much with CoP at first either, but do have a lotish now. WoTG is a lot like CoP. It's probably going to have an epic story too. Seems that way so far.

True, which is why I proposed a merit-like system. I don't want the community to do what it always does and create more problems. I want meriting and xp to stay the same. Add a seperate system that gives you different points at different level ranges for different things that are a lot like merits, new job abilities or maybe ability to "unlock" use of new gear or whatever. That way we'll have 75's capped at various levels all trying to obtain different things.

And BAM, you just repopulated all the level ranges with the largest population level, 75.
