To the point-

Tonight I was lvling my thf up, tank had to go, so I get a newer player that speaks Japanese mainly and a little English as the new tank. Lv31 WAR. At first, he doesn't know how SATA works and our WHM ends up dying. At this point, she asks for me to kick him in party chat and everything is just dead quiet. Nobody would do anything.

I calmly went about explaining SATA to him via autotranslator for about 20 minutes before we got everything worked out. He came out understanding SATA.

Now, the bad part is that most of the people in the party had a job above 50, 60, or 70. Why am I the only person that wants to speak up and help? This is just so awkward. Are we really that ignorant as people?

In case you're wondering why all the JP seek comments say JP only, this is mostlikely the cause. If experienced NA players know no bounds with their anger in haste, then I certainly do not see a reason why Japanese players should not put JP Only in their seek comments. I was so surprised at how badly everybody was ready to treat this guy simply because he was new to the game and only spoke a little English.

Everybody, please just take a step back from the game, realize that it is just a game, and try to have some decency in the way you act and go about things. People are people. If your mother and father or whoever you grew up with didn't teach you to speak, I'm sure you wouldn't know how to speak. If they didn't teach you how to go about wearing clothes or using utensils, I'm sure you'd be barbaric. Your parents didn't sneer at you and toss stupid comments your way and treat you like trash.(I realize some people have bad parents, but the general message is there and can be understood by everybody.)

I still can't completely take in how incredibly wrong things were tonight.

Is it really so hard to help somebody learn just a few simple things?

Really.. /sigh :(

Right on, Mithe 8)

I wish there were some way to actually reach the kinds of people you are referring to though.

Yes it is because it usually results in situations like this. Many of your high lvls don't try to teach people those basic things anymore because it just isn't worth the stress. The slight boost in exp you have potential to gain from teaching this is greatly outwayed by the potential of them getting mad and the whole party being ruined. Many FFXI players don't want to be taught and the experienced players are tired of getting nasty attitude in return for attempting to help.

Snoob \snoob\ n [NA noob and snob, slang] : A high level, accomplished FFXI player who insists they know more about your job/class/race than you do despite never having played your job.

Rones, that seems more or less just a superiority complex among players that aren't willing to accept help. I've seen many newer JP players, and this one was extremely patient and wanted to learn even though everybody else was just incredibly rude to him.

It isn't about people like that. It's about arrogant people treating a nice person like trash simply because he isn't as experienced as they are. It's like taking knowledge for granted and walking all over whoever doesn't have it. There's no need for that. The entire human race would never move foward if people didn't take the time off to teach when it's needed.

What you were addressing seems more fit for newer players who are blatantly rude in return. I'm speaking about helping people who want help. He was simply confused and new to the game, so instantly people are ready to bring down the iron fist and just be done with him. That's not the correct way to deal with things concerning somebody that's simply confused and wants to learn. There's no fine line between a rude player and a nice player. It's easy to tell the difference between the two, and to treat a nice player in such a manner is uncalled for and definately does not help the NA reputation at all.

I completely understand why you say that, though, as my advice has been refused by people who "know it all" before. Again, these are not the people I speak of.

How I got drug into this IDK...

It's the way you offer help that matters..flaming someone isn't helpful..

In addition..if I"m doing something I could improve upon..that's fine. The times I take that offensively is ONLY when someone knows nothing of my performance, my gear, my abilities..but makes sweeping generalizations due to race/comments/job. - it was, in essence...as if I could not possibly be doing my job well because I haven't been playing as long - THAT is sn00bery..

Rones....I either did NOT effectively express myself or you're misinterpreting my comments. I offer help to people..frequently..in /tells, in a pt if appropriate..whatever. It is the condescension that irritates people. The idea that just because you've logged more game hours...you have the right to tell people what they're doing wrong.

Offering advice is fine..in and of itself...but --

"As Daddy always said, and ounce of pretention is worth a pound of manure."
