An open letter to White Mages.

I won't disagree that it is easier for mages, no argument. I'm just saying that just because mages dont run around spotting hot gear means that they are bad players or that CubsWoo is just that much better than them, that if you dont meet her standard for good or exceptional you should be passed off as a slacker.

I just qouted the whole thing.

I believe that i am more than fine in a party. I can conserve mp, i hardly get aggrod, i always burst, i work out enfeebs, i am basically never the exp leech. My gear is good not exceptional but none the less it is good. Black tunic, cotton cape, mages sandals, 2 eremites rings, 2 opal earring, black silk neckerchief, yew wand +1, friars rope, black slacks, white mitts. Decent, not great but decent.

Exactly. Decent. Probably a 7, 7.5 out of 10 in my book. Good enough for me not to bitch you out, but not good enough for me to remember you after the party.

If anything you are right, it can always be one step better but it doesnt make someone a bad player if there gear isnt great (one of the best mages ive seen is named Swede and he was elvaan, wore fishing tunica and was acting as a whm in an awesome pt in khazham, you think it wouldnt work but it was one of the best pts ive been in because we racked in exp and it was alot of fun). Just because you happen to have amazing gear (that you worked hard for no doubt) does not mean you can act so diminutively towards mages that dont.

And the 'amazing' pt would have been THAT. MUCH. BETTER had the WHM had more +MP or +MND gear. Anything can 'work.' Canadian leveled WHM to 30 with a 6THF sub and /shout macros. It 'worked.' But he's got a horrid name with people who saw him and I won't help him get any Genkai 1 items. And I have as much right to disdain poorly equipped mages as you do to consider me a perfectionist prick for doing so. We both pay our money, we can play and act how we like towards others, within ToS guidelines o'course.

Farming- I farm for about 2-3 hour blocks. Killing crawlers, and bees and stealing cotton from mandy's while hunting spipi as well. it gets me about 15k each time. Quite frankly, i don't have the time anymore, i have school and work (not for much longer) which eat up all my time. On weekends i do 7 hours of homework a day and go to work. Almost all my time during the week is spent on homework, so if i dont have two energy earrings and dont meet your standard as a good mage then fine, there are worse insults in the world. I'd like to spend more time at my game but when it is a choice between working hard so i can get a scholarship to a 35k a year school versus farm so i can have energy wearrings the choice should be obvious.

It's obvious for me as well - I work and go to university as well. Since my time is limited, I prefer to get the best profit/hr as possible. Farming wasn't it, and it's not for you, either. Hell, go set up a fishbot and make gil that way if time's an issue. Many people are more than willing to risk their account for gil. I'm not saying you should, and I haven't - but it's a method. A very successful method given the # of bots in E and W Saru, Port Windy, and Rabao. I'm also glad you put school first, as life outside XI > Life in it. Just means it may take you longer to be as good as you can be. Which is ok, since you have life outside the game, right?

The gear for mage is easier then getting boots or hairpin yeah, i know, i camped lizzy for 3 weeks for my boots i know.

Waste of 3 weeks if you ask me. Probably could have bought 3 pairs of boots with the time you spent getting them for 'free.'

When i was a mage around twenty i spent alot of time ot get the gear and spells i have because at lower levels its harder to get the gil for that gear and quite frankly it isnt as important. I would have gotten through the dunes and qufim and kazham without having the best gear possible just fine because, well, i did without gimping any party i was in.

Playskill can, admittedly, make up for bad gear. But in my experience, those with good gear know how to play their jobs better than those with poor gear, since if they spent the time to earn the gil, they researched their job as well. Of course there ARE folks who IGE their stuff... but I haven't ran into one yet.

I'm not saying youo are holding me back i have a good idea what i need to do and i tend to do it. The only reason i posted in the first place is your statement doesnt only apply to the lvl 30war/8thf thats tanking (god knows why he got invited in the first place) it applies to anyone's gear that is sub par in your opinion and that people invite them. It seems that i fit into your broad category so obviuosly i should not get an invite because i must be a bad player. The mage in your story probably was craptacular but that doesnt mean that mages that have decent gear just arent trying, or are lazy, or make excuses (bad ones that is, i make excuses like school but its a legitimate one) or are players that dont want to excel and want to leech. Its a game and we decide how we play it, some ways work better than others and making sweeping generalizations about how people play and why they do it is unfair to those of us who cant meet your standard.

I wrote it because I'm tired of seeing - with all things being equal, there is NO reason why a player with sub-par equipment should be chosen over someone who has put countless more hours into making their job absolutely sing. I've also had my share of mages who simply don't feel that they HAVE to wear good gear, since 'pts will bend over backwards for whms' or something of that nature.

Let me put it this way. Theoretically, we are both Taru 30BLM's (or whatever) with similar grasp of the job and party mechanics. Your gear is 5-10 levels behind mine. As such, you have 25 less MP and 4 less INT. How can you justify being chosen for a party before me?

I agree with you here that it makes no sense, everyone is rational and logical....just some less then others, and thats probably why you didnt get picked.

It's not that i think you have bad points, i just disagree with the way you view people who have gear that isnt the best it could be. That is all, thats why i said to get off your high horse, nothing against your rant on not being picked over some crappy mage, id be pissed too.

I'm not for botting out of principle but i cant do it anyways because my comp has a 2 hour time limit where it auto disconnects which poses a problem. I also used to harvest alot which brought in decent money but now i have no room in my inventory so until i do mog safe update and a gobbie bag i've put that aside.

3 weeks later my SA can do maybe 15 points higher usually 10...but if i stuck with my normal farming practices it may have taken me a month to get them, so yeah a new way to farm may be nice.

And while i have been roaming around in kazham i saw about 3 to 4 people with better gear than me as a mage, so i think that its pretty decent but not great.

lol i agree with mattaru whm can mine if your high enough to not get aggro. i mean come on i mined for almost 3 weeks straight just to get dispel, stoneskin and a few II elemental spells for my blm as well. and dispel cost me 65k to buy from an npc so mages can't really bitch about not having the money to purchase spells. last time i was in crawler's nest the whm didn't have erase. i really didn't care cause i have no clue what the hell it does but i know must parties ask the whm to have it. all i know is that its about 100k or so. well i afford to help the whm obtain the erase scroll by helping them mine or what have you. so hey i figured i'd help out this person and maybe the favor will be returned one day. never got a reply from the whm., but oh well your looking at this post feel free to hit me up when you want to try to get yourself erase.

Erase isn't 100k - it's 300k. And more of a luxury than a necessity until Robber Crabs in Kuftal (It helps a ~little~ bit against the crawlers/beetles in the nest, but not an amazing amount.) Most people wait for BCNM40 to get it through drops, and with my WHM being 37 now I can probably afford to hold off on it. I PLANNED to have it before I stopped leveling, but one invite came after another (Thank you Nakona and the rest of Reverence... {Tarutaru} {power}!) I went from 33 to 37 in a day. If I get WHM to 40 for BCNM's I'll likely wait for the drop - that 300k is now budgeted for Himmel Stock and Austere/Penance gear (If Penance ever actually goes on the AH...). Is it hypocritical to not have Erase to be "The best?" Maybe. I rib myself for it a lot. But if nothing else, I'll have it before 64SMN.

like i said i have no knowledge of what is did and i was under the understandin that it was 100k lol ooops.

Oh yeah I was in a party last night where the WHM kept insisting on melee all night. I kept having to step in and do his job for him, to keep our party from dying the whole time.
I had a pt where I was one of two white mages, but since the other one wouldn't stop meleeing it sure didn't seem that way. (he never used on ounce of MP and didn't rest after battles)

I don't agree with the fact that mages have to have Up-to-date equipment because I'm noticing a lot of the time the best gear isn't the most up to date. Astral rings for example, level 10 but I still have one on at 35. I'm also guilty of not shopping for defence when I'm buying gear but stats instead. I can't take a hit at all. I'm a 35 Taru summoner with

Friar's Rope
Windurst Ring
Astral Ring
Devotee's mitts
Seer's Robe
Seer's Slacks
Seer's Pumps
Black Earring x2
White Cape
Whale Staff

I could be wearing Linen Slacks and a Frost robe which are higher level and give me more defence but I'm opting for MND and MP here.

I can't take a hit...I'll admit it. That Astral ring absolutely kills my HP and my defence is like -20,000 but I am sporting over 590 MP and my mind is pretty high. If I do get hit I won't start curing myself (I main heal A LOT), I stop curing, wait for someone to voke off and let the backup heal me. Mage gear is a weird thing. Just because it's level 5 or 10 doesn't mean it's not the best gear for your level, You do need up-to-date spells though. I can see someone skipping out on Protect II but they better have Protectra II and with summoners you can skip out on Fenrir but you're fully capable of having the rest of the avatars after 20 and shouldn't be running around w/o them. Spells are important, good gear is important, the level of the good gear however is not. :D

I think we're splitting hairs here.

Up-to-date, obviously, doesn't always mean right at your level good. I had Astrals for awhile and ended up selling them back - too many tanks that wouldn't voke, couldn't pull hate (after TWO Cure II's!) and the like. Not to mention the BLM's I've ptd with that chain nuke and get me caught in their AoE. Still mull over picking them up again, and can at a moment's notice, but right now they just don't feel 100% necessary. Were I a Galka or Elvaan, though - you'd better believe I'd have those fuckers from 10 on up.

Honestly, your gear looks a lot like mine. I got the Seer's stuff too (mostly for the 30 cap areas coming later, but they look good and will do well on my WHM and SMN for awhile.) If more WHM/SMN/BLM et al would come out to party in the same kind of gear you and I have, I wouldn't have to be so pissed at them.

(Aside - story from last night.)

In Yhoator trying to party up and get my Hume MNK to 30, I get an invite from a RDM. 3 pieces of Leather and 3 Lizard items. Fire Sword. That's it. No earrings, no ring (Not even nation ring! WTF) and he wants me to party with him. I end up declining his invite FIVE times and /blisting him - only to have someone on a choco /check my equipment and immediately /invite. Would have been a great party, but dumbshit RDM and his band of merry fuckups trained smithys/pathfinders to the zone no less than six times, to my memory.

a couple of days ive seen this chick name, scarlette, i think thats her character named, anyways shes a white mage, and she was walking around without armor, i asked her why, she said she had no money but that she will be alright , that she knows how to travel without getting aggro she sais " ive played this game for so long, that ive have expeirence to go withougt getting aggor" man i just left, how can a whm go around without armor, but then again she probally knows how not to get aggro

shes whm17/redm5

I had a White Mage once, with No Armor on. I spent 80% of my time keeping his butt alive.

Fuck you for tainted this thread with... that name.

Ugh.

Blaming the gimped players is fine, but don't forget to also blame the idiots that invite them. I know from experience as a level 32 whm, that pt's don't take no for an answer. I was in my moghouse in lower Jeuno, waiting for my old equipment to sell, in order to buy new. I get a blind invite to a Qufim party. I say I have no gear at all, and explain why. This is no big deal - they just need a healer. I explain yet again that I have no equipment at all - not even a ring. I refused out of principle, because I don't level gimped. Sadly, that situation is far from a one time occurance. People don't care what I wear - they can't party without a healer, and don't have the patience to find the right mage for the job.

It's easy to say that all mages should wear perfect gear. It's apparently not so easy to have the patience and the standards not to invite mages that are gimped. Mages can wear crappy equipment, if any at all, only because everyone invites them anyway. You have to figure that not near as many damage dealers would farm for their Emperor Hairpins, Lizzie Boots and Ochiudo's Kotes if parties didn't demand it of them for consideration of invites. They only put in the work because the market for them is oversaturated, and only the top tier get picked up. Mages are hardly oversaturated, and from a very early level, impatient players trying to toss a party together as quickly as possible (to prevent impatient players from leaving after 2 mins) give mage players all the reason they need to develop the prima donna, you-NEED-me-so-take-my-equips-or-not-because-I-can-get-another-invite-in-2-seconds, mentality the classes are notorious for.

At level 8 I went from Bastok to Windy with out Aggro. I did have armor on, but at that level, it really would have not mattered. If your walking around with no armor, no biggie. If your in a party with no armor on, that is a problem.

Scarlette, what's with the underleveled sub ? n u no ho 2 pley cuz u 2 1337, roflmaololz !!!1!!!1!oneoneone!1!111one
