And again, since the thread was closed, I am forced to make a new one...

A) Can you not play King of QCDN and actually leave the threads you consider "Open for discussion" open for discussion? Nothing is open when you lock it, twice, after another mod opened and merged it within the last 24 hours...

But anyway, I hate to agree with Jyakotsu, more than you can even imagine, but he brought up a few valid points. If you're going to make an example of someone, that's fine and dandy, but part of making an example is putting it out on the table for the rest of the community to see, so when they read it they might think "Hey, I shouldn't say anything like that, or I might get RO'd".

Sneakypants said:
As for mature, any moderation has been mature. Closing the thread after final thoughts was mature. Keeping this "discussion" open when there's nothing for the users to discuss is not mature and only invites additional drama.

B) Why is it not open for discussion? Nobody has the right to know why someone was banned or read-only'd or whatever the case may be? I see zero definitive reasoning behind that, nor have I heard that from any green/red/blue namer other than yourself. Like I said, shutting down two threads now with your irreplicable dialogue just doesn't sit right with me, regardless of whether it was Skaw or some person who has been a memeber for 3 days.

Obviously we don't notice the bannings of people we've never seen before, because, we've never seen them before. You can RO Inoscopedjfk-types all you want, and nobody that isn't an immediate friend of his will never realize, but it still deserves a reasoning, and I'd like to think that from the replies I've seen from these three threads now that the majority of the community agrees.

We haven't said anything is open for discussion, because quite frankly, it isn't.

That said, we aren't out to make an example of anyone. If someone breaks the rules they will get whatever is coming to them, and that's all you need to know, because it doesn't involve you. If you would like to know feel free to ask myself or sneaky. As long as you are respectable with us we will be respectable with you. Look at the Skaw thread. The question was asked, and answered.

What is the big deal, other then you don't get to stick your nose where it doesn't belong. It isn't my deal to try and convince people of something that is going to happen. If you don't want something to happen try and give me compelling reasoning without labeling myself or anyone else on staff a gestapo/nazi/other villainous organization and we'll go from there.

If it isn't open for discussion, then I kind of feel it should be. I don't feel this is a huge topic and even though I'd rather keep the C&P section, I'm not going to cry about it. I just didn't like the whole "this is our decision, no one else has a say in this *closes thread*" attitude.

How I feel about the C&P section:

I always checked it. Every single time someone gets a RO/ban, I always read it because I like to know what happened whether I know the person or not. Call me nosey but I just like to know what happened. I also feel that it's easier for me just to click the thread and figured out what happened than making a thread on S&F or sending a PM. Yeah, I guess maybe wasting a couple minutes of your time may be a huge deal to you, but it's not hard to just say "X did this and got X for doing it." But like I said, I won't cry about it if it's gone (like it is now.)

How I feel about the closing of the threads:

Like I said before, I'm not happy with just giving a response and closing the thread. If it is remade, then obviously someone wants to discuss this. If it is remade twice, I think that's more than enough proof that the community actually does care about what's happening. At least hear them out and let it others share how they feel before you come in and make a final decision.

As Hexx said in the past, I usually don't care what the mods do. I've never complained about them much in the past. I'm actually usually on the same side as the mods on a decision.

I do agree with Make with this:

If you don't want something to happen try and give me compelling reasoning without labeling myself or anyone else on staff a gestapo/nazi/other villainous organization and we'll go from there.

Not a good way to open it up. But Jyak did do it more calmer, or "kosher" and it still got closed after two responses, most likely because a staff member was not on to close it since it was 5 AM (EST).

If people want to try and bring something to attention then they can. If you have something productive or constructive to say then do so. If you come out of the gates throwing insults and disrespect around you are going to meet harsher language that won't be misunderstood and a locked thread.

What Jyak did:

Compared moderation to tracking pedophiles.
Compared moderation to the Gestapo.
Wanted to keep it because he wanted to know what was and wasn't a bannable offense

The first two are the reason i locked the thread. The third one certainly didn't help it.

What Tim did:

First paragraph insulting. Second paragraph insulting and certainly nothing even close to constructive. Then decided to insult the staff as a whole. Does that sound like anything i want to deal with? It was met with language that wouldn't be misunderstood and a locked thread.

So far no one has come up with anything better then what amounts to being nosy.

Its bad that i can't take the time to post about a ban when that takes a few seconds, but it isn't bad that others can't be troubled to send a simple PM or post asking what happened that takes the same? If you really care you'll already know or easily find out. This isn't a government. I'm not taking bribes to ban users. If someone does go you have a pretty good guess what they did (broke a rule) and if you want to know something more specific then that feel free to ask. Before the Skaw thread went to shit how bad was that? "Hey, i saw skaw was banned and would like to know what happened" "He did this and this" "Oh, ok".

Not to sound like a smart ass, but hey I saw Skaw was banned and would like to know what happened.

He decided to start something about a completely unknown side effect of the sig update, which has since been fixed.

Why is it not open for discussion?

Only thing getting a response before closeing time is this.

I'm not sure what you don't get about, "not open for discussion"...
When something isn't open for discussion you can trust that the staff has discussed it, as that is how we make decisions. We talk amongst ourselves.

When buy-in from all users is welcome, a post will be made and opinions taken.

Furthermore, when something is not open for discussion, we don't have discussions to discuss why Joe User thinks it should be open for discussion. Again not sure what you don't get, but I'll clarify.

These additional threads opened to discuss something that is not open for public discussion are deserving of an infraction. See the rules where it cites ignoring staff decisions. The fact that grace has been given in this regard, as we have wasted our time trying to get the point across, should not go unnoticed. Any additional threads of this nature and their authors will not see any such grace. Don't spam the site. Don't grief and ignore the staff. That's the only warning I'm giving you where I have to spell out the word warning for you.

Also to be noted:

Nothing is open when you lock it, twice, after another mod opened and merged it within the last 24 hours...

now that the majority of the community agrees.

Actually, when it was merged and "opened" it was only being commented on by staff due to the fact that it was still closed. If anything, the fact that it was locked, twice, should have told you something. And yet you feel special enough to create another thread of the same topic. Read the part in my last post about how grace has been given for spamming, ignoring and griefing. And how that grace will not continue to be given. K.

Majority of the community has never been about 10 people.

The question was asked, and answered.

Bingo. And yet we have a small handful of soap opera queens that need their fix of as much drama as they can squeeze into their days of Internet browsing.

Entitled to know of every staff decision, you are not.

Seriously, let that sink in before you offer another knee-jerk reaction.
