ANGELINA Jolie is reportedly being lined up to star as Batman's nemesis Catwoman in a new movie.
The 33-year-old actress – who gave birth to twins Knox and Vivienne earlier this month – is said to be in final negotiations with studio bosses to play the feline villain who first appeared in the Batman comics.

It is not clear whether she would play the role in the current Batman film series, starring Christian Bale as the caped crusader, or in a spin-off film as Halle Berry did in 2004's Catwoman.

Actress Julie Newmar, who played Catwoman in the Batman TV series from 1966 to 1967, has given her blessing for Jolie to play the part.

"Angelina would own the part," Newmar, now 74, said.

"My industry friends tell me she has already made enquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Catwoman is Batman's one true love.

"She is tremendously popular with women because she's both a heroine and a villainess."

Other actresses to take on the role of Catwoman include Michelle Pfeiffer in 1992 movie Batman Returns, and Eartha Kitt who took over from Newmar in the TV series.

I'm hoping it's the Chris Nolan series, considering they had the line about the new armor being good "against cats."

If this is Nolan's Batman, I *so* called this! Was talking to my brother about casting possibilities and when we mentioned Catwoman, Jolie was the first person I thought of. Would seriously rule.

Still hard to think she'll be in the Nolan's Batman since Goyer said he would rather not deal with The Penguin or Catwoman.

Unimpressive. She's in far too many action roles as-is, and I would've expected someone with a far more "athletic" physique to take on this role.

I agree with Halifirien for the exact same reasons, though. I picked up on that line, and duly enjoyed it.

I think she would do the role justice but it would be nice for another gal to get the chance to do an action role. I'm not sure who I would suggest instead though.

I agree with this. I can't think of anyone else, either.

I'm all for her playing the role with one condition;they botox her upper lip so the world doesn't have to look at her rugose pucker. Don't get me wrong, I think she is beautiful; but after seeing this shot I died a little on the inside.

That pic looks shopped, in that scene it really doesn't look that bad.

Anyway, I think she'd be a terrible option for the role because she's not really the athletic gymnast acrobat that is needed to really do justice to the role.

I wanted Kate Beckinsale ;(

But she might do well, we'll have to see

The fuck? The Penguin is awesome.

Ergo:

To me he just doesn't seem to fit in with Nolan's more realistic version of Batman.

Maybe Burton's version doesn't suit your idea for a villian in a more 'realistic' Batman movie, but I don't see how the character itself couldn't be tweaked a little to fit right in. The charcater from the comics wasn't as over the tops as Devito's portayal. Besides...in the first movie they used Scarecrow, who I always regarded as a class two villian.

Then again, I am biased. I love Batman: The Animated Series, which had quite a few episodes with the Penguin involved. And in that version, he wasn't at all like the Burton/Devito Penguin, which is why I think Penguin can be worked into this new series without any problems.

However, that's as long as they don't make him a three foot Irish little person like they did in The Batman =/

I have to admit I have no idea what to think. Angelina plays some very well performed roles in movies, but I don't know if her as catwoman will be absolutely awesome or major suck.

I'm kinda on the same page as you, but I'm leaning a little more towards suck.

I think she's a little old for the role. If they were to use Catwoman, she'd be somewhat of a sexual tension character for Batman, and seeing how she's a decade older than Bale, it would look a little strange.

Depp would be an interesting choice for the Riddler but I think I'd rather see someone relatively unknown pull out a unique version than have Depp work his character acting magic on it and it seem lackluster because it's him.
