CHIPLEY, Fla. (AP) -- Florida authorities have found a missing baby alive under her baby sitter's bed and say they're planning to charge the baby sitter, her husband and the child's mother.

Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock said early Thursday that investigators found 7-month-old Shannon Dedrick in a box at Susan Elizabeth Baker's home near Chipley, a rural Panhandle town. The child had been missing for five days.

Haddock said deputies are working to charge Baker, James Arthur Baker and Chrystina Lynn Mercer. Haddock wouldn't provide details. He said more information would be released soon.

Her parents reported Shannon missing Saturday afternoon. Haddock said authorities don't believe the father was involved. He said Susan Baker and the father are related.

I hate to read stories like this, but I have been following on my local news and have seen a lot of cases like this in my own backyard lately, and it sickens me. If I was to let someone watch my kid, I would do a heavy background check before hiring someone.

Just my 2 cents.

Perhaps I read it all wrong, or perhaps I need to finish my morning coffee, but this is sounding like the Mother was in cohorts with the babysitter??

Maybe because they threw a few names out there including the baby sitters as to whom they're looking to charge.

Either way yea this is gross. I always thought it kinda sick that some parents installed sittercams in their houses to monitor exactly what goes on when they're not around, but unfortunately it seems more and more necessary.

Yeah, I think you misread it. I didn't think that when I read it, but hey the article could have been written poorly. The point I was trying to make is PARENTS TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHILDREN. Just the other day, my co-workers kid fell off the 2nd floor of their apartment home. I could never bear to put my child through that, even though accidents do happen.

Can never be too careful with kids, especially infants. Turn for 2 seconds and they're getting into the cookie jar, or even worse, your gun collection. *Bad analogy, I know. Work with me here*

Heh I was accident prone!

You would think my parents were the worst ever if I took the time to list every major accident I had before I hit 12! I shit you not!

But as far as this story goes, this babysitter kidnapped the kid? I'm curious to know more, it's hard to grasp the story w/o knowing if she broke in or told the parents some story as to her disappearing while under the babysitters supervision.

It's all very confusing.

Apparently the woman in question had written to the governor about geting custody of the child because both of the parents were "on drugs". I guess he denied her and she took the baby and claimed it got lost. She had hid it under the bed after someone came to her door. Can't find an article on this though, just heard it on the news.

The article does say that they are charging the infant's mother. Its in the first couple sentences.
