ahh i knew i saw a post like this coming. instead of saying what SE needs to do (everyone seems too love doing that.) don't be stupid with the sites you go too. simple enough. take basic internet precautions and there is no worries.
what can they really do except counter any type of action like this?

not too many elderly play online games. I think I've known two that have in my entire career (friend's grandad; dickwad at fanfest).

this is actually sorta crazy.
i bought my grandmother one of those digital picture frames for Christmas, she absolutely loves it.
now i'm really glad that i loaded all the pics onto a memory card and threw the card into the frame rather than plugging the frame into my PC via USB. who would'a thought a virus would be pre-loaded onto a product like that.
i say we bomb the shit outta china and kill all the gil sellers. i can live with fish bots...they dont hurt my game play what-so-ever. i can deal with tele-bots, they don't hurt me. but when some jack ass infects my PC cause they're so pathetically desperate for a form of fantasy money, i go a little crazy....*starts dropping the nukes*

Well today it digital frames. tomorrow it can be a flash drive. Also the mention ipods as well. However there would be very little SE could do to protect the passwords from a attack like this one.
They have uses, my sister has one there actually kinda neat. You can sit it on a table or on the wall and they will cycle through your photos. So instead of having a picture of 1 photo you have a picture of many photos. I've never been much of a picture person, but least pics to hangs always a good thing.

Is it just affecting cheap no name brands? I really can't see big western companies allowing this to happen to their products. Far far too much bad publicity for them.
Damn straight..... everything from china is slowly being discovered to be skechy, dog food, toys, toothpaste. Who knows what other stuff is hiding that hasnt been found yet.
i heard a report on the radio on the way to work the other day , about the chinese taking a big multi-billion lost because of the products they made and that have been recalled , lead in baby toys, poison in dog food, now viruses in hardware . i even read the are one of the worlds largest producers for ingredients used in making vitamins and supplaments that are added to food scary imo.
shit if my dog < hopeless dog lover here lol >had died from that tainted dog food i would at least go to my local chinatown and start shoving that shit down peoples throats, the dog food and lead in the toys got me mad.

I forget if it was Western Digital or Seagate, but one of those two company's hard drives were pre-loaded with viruses about a year ago when they came off the line in China.
Stocks took a dive because of it.
The catch-22 is this: it's virtually impossible to completely avoid products made in China because virtually all consumer goods are made there now and virtually all retailers only buy from Chinese manufacturers to keep costs/prices low. Also, most people can't really afford to buy non-Chinese products because the prices are usually about twice as high as Chinese made goods and/or they don't live in an area that has enough retail diversity to find places that actually sell non-Chinese products. It's an awesome cycle of consumerism that we can thank companies like Wal-Mart and others for creating.
