My chemistry teacher just gave my calss our final project. Basically i have to create my own chemistry demonstration, and i am completly out of ideas. I wanted to do an "Unburnable towel" demo or a thermite reaction, but the unburnable towel may be taken. Wondering if anyone here with chemistry knowelge could give me a good idea for a final project. Must require some difficulty. Example, no baking soda + vinegar volcanos.

Theres something with a bottle of flat soda, mentos and life savers, and making the soda shoot about 20 feet in the air. And my chemistry teacher used to heat up some kind of mixture in a test tube, and then drop a gummy bear in.,.. and it would go all crazy and burning like... <.<

Edit: Just reread OP... guess my suggestions wouldn't be complex enough. But still cool ^^b

Here's a chemistry experiment. Examine the chemical reations that prove the following:
Beer Before Liquor = Never been sicker
Liquor before beer = in the clear

Prove that in class.

I got the steps to make TNT in my organic chem lab manual if u wanted to try that. It stays in solution so its perfectly safe as long as u dont dry it.

Show how you can't be electrocuted if you're not "grounded" (such as standing on rubber or styrofoam) =P

distill some fractions of oil (you would probably want to use naptha) and show the difference in viscosity and violence of ignition. You could also point out the incomplete combustion in the form of black smoke.

You should be able to find an example in any of your text books.

Might want to check its not taken though as its not exactly an unusual presentation/experiment.

throw some rubidium in a puddle

I'm pretty certain the rubidium wouldn't last long enough to hit the puddle. if i recall correctly its half life is so short is is practacally considered a form of radiation.

Ceasium on the other hand...

>_>
<_<;;
Hmmm... create esters of your favorite foods and throw in a twist?
I remembered something that deals with ice and salt, when you pull the bottle of water out of the mixture it freezes instantiously. o-o Wicked fun!

worse to worse... you can always do something with a big explosion that blows up the class room and claim that it was to suppose to do this other reaction... then don't have to do it which the room is under repairs :D

If ya get the reight materials, you could make some acidic chemicals that have a single control, and can burn through wood. That would be a pretty sick presentation. But I s'pose the Hindenburg was pretty sweet (not saying all the dead people were sweet). But seems kind of simple, don't ya think? Hydrogen going through basic chemical and mechanical reactions causing an ignition of the hydrogen, utterly causing a massive explosion, ripping the rims of the dirigible apart? Yea, lol screw what I said, that's straight down, damn awesome. And that video, is that bomb lol
