Hello.

I don't know where else to turn, which is a bit pathetic. I don't trust any of the doctors I know. An odd fact about the UK, is we have the highest rating of youths on anti-depressants. Although this is NOT because we have depressed youths. For the last few years I've gone to doctors on n off with my ailments, explained the problem, left with a prescription for prozac. Even when it turned out I was slightly anemic, started taking iron tablets and now I'm not tired all the time. It wasn't depression, and I just lost faith in them.

Now. As a result, I've had issues for the last seven months which I'm too scared to approach a doctor over in fears of ending up in therapy and pumped full of drugs once more.

Symptoms include, but not limited to:

Chronic migraines.
Sometimes, EVERYTHING smells of blood, it's overpowering.
My left eye has a tendancy to go blind.
My ears mishear words entirely, "Confederate hamster costume" is a prime example, what the fuck is that?!
Although rare, my left arm sometimes becomes almost dead and clumsy, maintaining only basic motor controls over it, and fingers not responding.

What the fuck is happening to me?

I have suspicions, but am too terrified to acknowledge them.

Please, be honest and tell me what you think?

Um, Grem darling it would be hard for me to fathom that after giving those symptoms that you would be given a script for prozac and then ushered out the door with a 'Good day'. If you are, club them.

Now, I'm not a doctor by any means, but I think you should go see one. If you already have suspicions and you're scared of even those theories... go see someone, please.

I'm not sure since I'm not a doctor. I'd look up the symptoms on maybe WebMD? Self diagnosis has its limits, due to being inexperianced. I can understand your distrust in doctors. It's sad that some doctors don't go farther in investigating things. I just suggest looking around for a good doctor. Talk to friends, family members and try to find a good recommended doctor. They are out there, you just have to find them. Also... if you think it's serious, I suggest you start right away.

Either way, I'll keep you in my prayers. Hope you get well soon.

You really need to see a physician about this; clearly, you should steer clear of those you saw about your "depression". Ask people you know and trust for a recommendation on who to see - who they see and are happy with. I am not a doctor, but a lot of the symptoms you list can be signs of very serious disorders; no one will be able to properly diagnose them without some major testing, and, unfortunately, we cannot conduct those kinds of tests on QCDN.

I can relate to your distaste in doctors, I have a chronic medical ailment that's historically been undertreated, and out of the 6+ doctors who I've discussed this with only one has actually done what I felt he should about it.

HOWEVER; having said that, one bad experience with a doctor shouldn't put you off all doctors. I've seen doctors who were indifferent, doctors who were downright mysogynistic, and doctors who I felt were some of the most awesome people to set foot on this earth. You just need to keep looking around for one who has a method of care that works for you. Considering the symptoms you are describing, you should be looking for a doctor yesterday. Don't put it off any longer, your symptoms are serious and need immediate attention.

Just a question, when was your last physical and did it include blood work? Is that how they found an issue with your RBC? If so did they do a kinetic or morphologic eval? One test is extensive and the other is a single blood test, you get your answer in a day of so.

I am asking this because I have anemia and it is no joke. Your red blood cells bring oxygen to your organs. Cells can not survive with out oxygen.

Find a good Dr. ASAP, if you don't like yours get a second opinion.

BTW, send me your Prozac I know several people who could use it.

It sounds like it could be a variety of things

1st off some of the physical symptoms sound like possible nerve damage
Can you think of any nasty falls or other trauma in the past few months? possibly even a stroke

Some of it could also be mental illness, the kind Prozac doesn't fix in fact take it from someone who took it for 2 years Prozac doesn't do shit except make you crash when it wears off.

You don't feel any different after you take it until about 8 hours later when you just crash and start feeling tired and lethargic. Prozac is the biggest load of shit in the medical community.

I would suggest seeing a doctor and not leaving until they tell you whats wrong because trust me something is very wrong. If your doctor tries to send you away with a prescription for Prozac ask to see another doctor, you may also want to look into psychiatrist.

I would also suggest not taking any drugs that affect your mental state unless you feel your a danger to yourself or others. When I was pumped full of drugs to try and fix my disorders all they didn't do anything except prevent ME from dealing with it.

In other words all those drugs did was suppress my mental disorders when they wore off they were just as bad as ever in order to overcome them I had to stop using the drugs and deal with it myself in my natural mental state. For 18 years they tried to use drugs to fix those problems once I stopped taking them it only took ME 1 year to do the job.

Unless House frequents qcdn you're not gonna find an answer here. Get over your little fears and go see a fucking doctor.

From my understanding of medicine, most of the things going wrong are sensory problems. Since its not just one sensory organ that is messing up, but all of them, that leads me to believe it could be a brain problem with how your nerves are processing signals, which could also be attributed to why your arm just suddenly stops works, and also explain your migraines as well.

I'm no doctor, but i strongly suggest you go see one. This could be a lot bigger of a problem.

The fact that you stated that you were anemic and you are having problems with temporary sense loss i think that the anemia may be getting the better of you atm. This is definitely something that you need to go to the doctor about because temporary problems become permanent ones when untreated...

Noone buys your internet tough guy routine, fuck off.

Thanks for the advice though folks. I'll probably be booking myself in later this week or next.

I've been substance free for two years now with the exception of Alcohol and mild pain killers (not together) In the UK we don't really go for physical exams. Unless there's something completely wrong.

That'd require our doctors doing their job mate. Our doctor used to give you ear infection tablets for anything. Then again he was on crimewatch for fraud so.

I would suggest going to a doctor, but if you fear Western medicine so much there are other alternatives to look into. I can't think of any in the UK at the moment but I'm sure there's a whole underground of people you could go to.

Like I stated previously though, I would highly recommend going to a doctors office or the hospital and if they still try to send you away with Prozac then I would start looking in other directions.

Sounds like something might be wrong in your nervous system...?
Also iirc you mentioned that you took anti-depresants w/o having depresion? That fucks you up more than will help. I was in anti depressants for 2 weeks when i started feeling like shit and left them voluntarily everything got fixed up. Doctors tend to fuck you up more also i don't trust medicines, I wanna study to be a Dr. and I don't even like taking Tylenol and shit, I just sweat everything out.

I share some of your concerns about doctors and hospitals however in this case I STRONGLY urge you to go to the doctor ASAP!! This is NOT good.

Please schedule the doctors appointment tomorrow and let us know how it goes.

Cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM)

Only if coupled with nausea, vomiting and incontinence since it usually is paired with bleeding in the brain. Sure, it's possible he only suffers from some of the symptoms now, but without the full package, I wouldn't jump that far to a condition that less than .1% of the population of the United States has had.

EDIT: Well Snooch appears more right than I originally thought. I just reread your original post and must have missed where you said you had anemia. Cerebral arteriovenous malformation is basically a "leak" in your brain. If you are losing red blood cells through this "leak", this could also explain your anemia.

Ok, I'm not a Hematologist but I am the guy who does the blood testing and the morphology assessments for the doctor. First this worries me:

Chronic migraines.
Sometimes, EVERYTHING smells of blood, it's overpowering.
My left eye has a tendancy to go blind.

When was the last time you had your blood pressure checked? If there is somewhere you can go easily like a drugstore or somewhere with a machine, go. Ask them to interpret the result for you if you cannot, 115-120 systolic and 75-80 diastolic is normal. If it is significantly higher, which they will prob say something if it is, goto the hospital. High blood pressure can cause your symptoms, head ache self explanitory, the blood smell could be capillaries in your nose bursting, your eye maybe from pressure on the optic nerve since it and the main optic artery are very close. The whole arm numbness is common before heart attacks because of the sudden build up in atrial pressure and lack of blood, like when you sleep on your arm weird and it goes dead.

Book a general physical, they will take your blood for a complete cell count in which your anemia will be seen unless your supplements mask it so you may want to consider stopping/lowering them. Which brings me to my next question:

When your iron supplements started making you feel better did you, as most people do with things that make them feel better, take more than the recommended daily intake? It is possible to get iron overload which is poison. Your physical should include general chemistry tests including Iron but ask for it just incase. There are anemia type blood disorders called Beta-Thalessemia where patients get this overload due to frequent blood transfusions. Its a long shot with over the counter supplements but it is possible.

Also, do your supplements contain Vit B12 and folic acid? Cause low iron isnt the only thing that causes anemia. Look up IDA, megaloblastic anemia, alpha thalessemia, pernicious anemia and G6PD disorder to see if it matches any of your symptoms...im too tired to do it for you atm.

Your anemia, if thats even what it is or are you guessing cause of the supplement effect?, should be classified though, IDA or iron defeciency anemia is common but may require more/different type of supplements. Do you have your RBC, Hgb, Hct, MCV, MCH, MCHC, and RDW values from your last exam? I may be able to help a bit but realistically without an actual sample I am very limited. Tell the doctor to order a BFR (blood film review) FOR SURE on your next exam.
