My friend just gets stuck at the first "Downloading Data" screen and even when I tried logging in with my computer (to rule out a firewall/router problem) I get the same thing.

Weird thing is he can log on with any of his mules just fine.

Anybody else?

This happened to me awhile back. I called a GM on my mule, and they had me log into my main. Then they "moved" my character.. Basically rezoned me.

The second time it happened, it was happening to a lot more people, and the GM didn't even actually respond in person. They send me a message in the help desk saying the game was working properly.. So I just waited it out for about 3 hours, and Logged in fine.

I'd try to call a GM from one of the mules.. They might be able to move him.

You might also have a missing/corrupt dat file for a particular zone that it cannot load when it tries to load that character. Try checking your files to make sure they are all okay. It's a long, tedious process so best to do it while you're sleeping.

He just called me, he did the GM call and they told him to call support and after 20min of holding he said fuck it. lol

Ok here's a brainbuster.

I was able to log in with his main, and he was able to log in with another friend's main. So, I moved his character from zi'tah to ro'maeve and he still wasn't able to log in. So there's a whole circle of friends being able to log on each other's accounts, but not their own.

It would make me think there's a file corruption except for when trying to login on xbox, the second friend was still locked out. These people are also on different servers. I'm so confused right now.

I had this same problem.

If it is not data file corruption than either your router, or your ISP is blocking required ports for FFXI to run. I forget exactly what they are (it's a HUGE range), but you can find them on playonline's site somewhere under support.

How long has this been going on? Like when exactly did it start happening?

Different zones in FFXI use different ports? That doesn't seem very plausible to me.

And this just started happening this afternoon when he went to log on.

I have recently been having alot of problems also with FFXI for the PS2(I have installed on my PS3 though)-I have never had any login issues until SE updated there content and since then I get lots of lag and difficulty logging into the game itself-I contacted SE and they told me I needed to setup port forwarding through my router so it could access these specific ports

I did so by following the tutorial on www.portforward.com for the PS2 and I am still having issues-I am lucky if I get to login 1/7 tries

Router info
Ambit SpeedStream U10C018
and I have the Ps3 wireless setup with a Netgear WGR614 v6

I really dont know what else to do its pissing me off

My wife has problems loggin in at times even though i log in just fine. Im on 360 and shes on PS2, any ideas to this as well? (Ive logged in on the PS2 just fine right after shes had problems as well which is why im at a loss).

This happened to me yesterday. After about 4hrs of trying to get my guy moved, I just restartd my router and everything went back to normal.

These are some of the things I was told from talking w/ live chat:

"It seems Comcast has blocked specific port which allow access to the FFXI game."

"The main character is attempting to connect on a blocked port, where as the mules are connecting on open ports."

"Each character connects differently to the Internet."

"There is a resolution to the matter, however, it will require that you to contact Comcast and make sure they have the required ports open for you."

"You can get all the port information here: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/envi/win/win01.html?pageID=win"
