I'm just wondering, hoping to ease my mind. Has anyone else played up until Archades without ever buying a single Gambit simply because you never went to the shop...

What did you think that little gambit shop icon on your map was? XD

That must have been a bitch though, having to do everything manually, gambits make everything so much easier and you don't have to deal with a stupid AI

I actually turn most of my gambits off sometimes, kinda crazier that way xD.

I'm not terribly far but I've always pretty much relied on 2 gambits to get me through majority of battles..

target nearest foe - attack
hp<50 or 60% (ok 3 gambits) - Cure

I tried not doing gambits up until the waterway pasage in rabernaster but that was way too annoying lol..

eh...so much more work without gambits......

Does anyone else find technicks more or less useless?

Some of them are nice, I do not have enough to say for sure their usefulness as a whole but Charge is quite helpful at times.

I use steal and charge a lot... poach is kinda worthless. looking forward to using bloodsoul or whatever it's called w/ my tanks :D

I like steal, 1000 needles early on for fliers, telekineses now for fliers, charge when i didnt have syphon or when syphon doesnt work. Thats about it really ;x

Charge, for long-ass fights (See: Omega, Yizamat) And the Phys def down one.
Everything else is junk, aside from steal for obvious reasons.

No.

Why the fuck has no one said Libra?
Libra, Steal, Charge, 1,000 Needles for fliers before Telekenisis, and the four I don't remeber the names of - lowers defense, lowers attack, lowers magic resistance, and lowers magic power.

charge will drop your MP to zero when unsuccessful (at least in Jp version). For those long fights, there are the autocharges that you unlock on Licence grid: mp charges automatically when you deal damage or take damge.

Charge is great, but its mainly used to get back a little mp to survive off of when your mp falls to 0, such as after espers or quickenings.

Charge is supposed to be used when you literally have no mp anyways, so you wont be losing much if it fails.

<.> why risk it? use ethers, not like you can't buy them.

At first I tried Quickening chaining to no avail on Elder Wyrm a little while ago, so I was at 0 mp and literally just kept charging to beat the last 60-70% of it, charge is super useful. On very long fights I can see Ether spam as impractical.

Whats there to risk when you have 3 MP left? Obviously ethers are more useful if you REALLY need to use the spell right away, but then the chances are you'll have someone dead before you can get the spell off anyways.

the risk i see is wasting time. if it fails with 3 mp no big loss, but you just wasted some time in a fight that was bad enough you were doing mist chains (or that's how i'm assuming you got to 0 mp =P ). some fights i really don't see having room for errors. eg, i use mit chains for death blows cause i'm way too lazy to spend 45 minutes hacking at something with 9875489726745669X def at low hp, if i get unlucky, blow off all their mp and then get a crappy round and do 52 damage... well, i consider that shit hitting the fan in a fight like the dude in the sewers.
