yeah it is in the ...\User\... folder but the folder after it is something like jargon. I have a main and two mules so there are three jargon folders after USER
...\USER\daklfjaut\...
...\USER\asdfasdr\...
...\USER\4455466\...
To find your main char. folder, you'll have to open the *.mcr files with text or wordpad. Scroll through the jargon in there until you recognize something. When you find which jargon folder is your main char, back it up to an ext. HDD or thumbdrive or whatever.
Easier, back up all main and mule folders; especially if you actively use your mules for stuff.
I can't fully verify paths. I'm on a non ffxi laptop waiting for my new PC to arrive via mail. Orig. rig died after 5-6 years of service. RIP, green lit up nasty looking thing.
the meat, the prize will look something like:
.mcr0
.mcr1
.mcr2
~
.mcr9 or something. Again, I can't verify as my PC died.
Then you'll see some other pattern which I can't currently recall like
.1mcr0
.1mcr1
etc.
Just back up the entire folder and you got them all. I used to surgically pick the files then realized I was making it entirely too hard. Back up the entire USER folder and done.
sorry for the spam...
Mine are stored on an ext. HDD and can load them when my new rig arrives. Can't connect it to the laptop I'm on now or I'll have to loose a USB device to do it. Not enough slots. Just saying, my backups paid for themselves. It's very nice to have them stored somewhere. But you all know that.
