Does anyone know anyone who has had a double lung transplant? if so how well are they now and how has their quality of life improved pre-transplant? For reasons of my own i'm looking into this and would like some feed back.

I recently met a woman that had a double lung transplant ten years ago. It was really amazing because her husband has had a double lung transplant as well, they met at a transplant support group, LOL. She seemed healthy and she looked great for her age, which was about 40.

I knew a girl with CF that had one and it worked out well for a while. Then she died but she did have CF and I don't think her lungs failed or anything.

So what did she die from? How sick was she before the transplant?
Do you have any idea what her Pfts where at before the transplant? How long did she wait on the list?

Wasn't looking for advice, Was looking for people who knew people who had them done. I've spent more time reading this shit up then anything i've ever done. I just wanted to know how sick they were before the transplant and how well they are doing after the transplant.

The stories about people i've read from google are what they think is different. I want to know the difference people see before and after.

I'm in my 4th year residency at a well known hospital in Chicago. Being an up and comming anesthesiologist, I've dealt with 13 lung transplant patients pre and post op.
From what I've seen, it makes an incredible difference in the quality of life. The severity of the cases varied, but just talking to the patient, I could see that his/her personality changed(for the better) quite a bit.
If you're a little skeptical about whether or not you should go through with the surgery, my honest opinion, from experience, is that it is worth it.
Lung transplant does have its risks, just like any other type of surgery, but compared to other types of transplants, it is minimal. Assuming you are a good candidate for the procedure, it can only benefit you. The real question you should ask yourself is "why not?"

Just my personal encounters with this treatment. Hope it helped.
