Anyway to get FFXI in window mode?

Just woundering if there is any way that i can get it in window mode?
every time i ALT+Tab i get an error message.

"Terminated as error occurred in Final Fantasy XI. Full-screen mode was lost. (-1)"

is there any way around this error?

Be warned thats a 3rd party program omgomg YOU CHEATER.

Actually its a very useful tool, I'm posting and lfg in jeuno thx to it :D He updates it pretty often too so bookmark the site.
 
I wish there was a windower that DIDN'T make the game look all crappy while it's up... I only use it for questing and such, I can't stand watching that bad Gamma that it gives.

if your talking about the graphics being dark?...hit f11
 
actually, I think the graphic is better in windowed mode =/
 
F11 only slightly improves it. And the controls of the windower interfere with the standard controls of FRAPS if you use both at the same time, just a lil FYI. The overall Gamma is still off despite the use of the F11 function. I prefer the natural look of the game, and besides, alt+tab in certain places is a life saver, I can usually just use that to avoid unwanted trains to zones and such.
 
I need the new windower. My old one no worky work.


re: gamma

depending on your video card, you might go to your desktop
and right-click into properties >> settings >> graphics (or whatever)
and screw with your gamma.

I have several gamma settings that are stored and selectable.
1) normal
2) ffxi windower (normal in window, bright as hell on desktop)
3) doom3 (still can't see sh*t in that game, gamma is cranked)
 
just change your FRAPS controlls to somethign else :P

I agree with Tauro 100%. I have to blast the brightness up to +45 (on a scale of -100 to 100) on my vidcard when I use the windower, plus the in-game gamma controls don't work. What kind of card you got Tauro? I wonder if it's an ATI thing (9700 pro here).

To change gamma from windower:
Bring up the windower console ( ] key in the latest verion)
type "game_gamma X" where X is a number between 0 and 100...I think I have mine at 57.

You can change the controls for the windower by editing the "init.txt" file in the "scripts" directory under your windower directory.

Fustrated that the game wont let you set background textures past 1024 x 1024? Follow the instructions below to set it even higher! The game looks amazing running background resolutions of 2048 x 2048!!

Step 1:go to your Run command and type REGEDIT and click OK.

Step 2: Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then click on Software.

Step 3: Click PlayOnlineUS and Square Enix folder, then the FinalFantasyXI tab.

Step 4: You should see 2 "strings", 003 and 004. Double click to open them, and change the value on 003 to 500, then change 004 to 500. You will notice the values to the right after you click OK will change to the corresponding resolution.

2048 x 2048 = 800 and 800
1600 x 1600 = 640 and 640
1280 x 1280 = 500 and 500
 
They might if they could detect it, which they can't. Since it is performed only locally, that makes it much harder to detect. Plus, SE would lose too much money by banning the thousands who use it (assming they even found a way to detect it). So no worries about using it.

Sadly, I wish I could get it to work on my system. It still crashes pol everytime I try to start.
 
Ban all FRAPS users!!!! Haha, they'd probably use that defense when asked why the sellers don't get banned for using hacks. "Well we can't ban third party programs because nearly all of our pc users have FRAPS and/or the FFXI Windower tool installed and in use most of the time." I can see it now....
