Appleseed

watched this Semi-anime a few days ago. Blew my mind clean away.

While the story wasnt exactly the most original (Utopian society on the surface, plots beneath) the twist at the end was unexpected.

halfway through where Dunan(main character) and Briarios (other main) are attacked in the city, a friend asked as a joke "Why is Briarios the Master Chief?" (halo reference, if its not obvious.) after that, i couldnt look at him without thinking that XD

This movie is incredible. period.

The reason the concept seems a little dated is because Appleseed itself is dated.
The Manga is almost 20 yrs old, as well as the first Anime, which was one of the first commercially released Animes that wasn't "Americanized".
The only thing I didnt like about the new version was that it packed way to much of the stories timeline into its running time.

Aside from that, the Appleseed universe remains one of Masumune Shirow's finest works and easily stands right next to Ghost in the Shell which he conceptualized much later.

I recently imported this myself. The cell shaded animation in this movie really is spectacular. Very, very impressive. The opening scene alone is worth the price of the purchase.

Hmmm I have had this sitting around collecting dust for a while. I haven't made time to watch this yet. Sounds like I should. I enjoyed that original so I should enjoy this one.

Thanks to Tenk, I was able to watch this bad ass flick. The CG / Cell animation is incredible. Is it me or does that bad guy with the spikey hair look like the Jaz model in FFXI?
