Appraisers(04/10/2006)Some people in Vana'diel make their living as appraisers, helping merchants and mercenaries determine the type of items they have picked up during their travels in Aht Urhgan. The Near East's powerful ocean winds, rust, or even mere age can make an item unrecognizable to the amateur eye. The finder may even simply lack the knowledge to make an accurate judgment and find himself unsure of how to use the newly discovered good. In such cases, appraisers use their experience and keen senses to ascertain what the item really is. Qiqirn can use their keen noses to sniff out information about an item, and many make excellent appraisers. The only drawback to using a Qiqirn appraiser is that they might be a little difficult to understand due to their odd accents...

Appraisers

Does the idea of finding a mysterious item on your adventures sound exciting?

For example, let’s say you find a “??? sword.”

It may look just like an ordinary sword, but it could turn out to be an incredibly powerful relic. On the other hand, what looks to be a keen blade to the untrained eye may end up disappointing its finder. So what is the sword’s true identity? Could it be a legendary item? There is only one way to find out--by visiting an appraiser in town. The development team has decided to implement this feature in order to add an increased element of anticipation to adventuring in Aht Urhgan.

The mysterious items do not stop at swords. There are “??? gloves,” “??? rings,” and many other varieties. However, you will be unable to equip these items after finding them.

That is where the appraisers come in. By getting your mysterious items appraised, you will learn their true identities, and they will henceforth become usable. This service will require a payment in gil, but will not be very expensive.

If you get an item appraised while in a party, the appraised item will be added to the treasure pool. This is so that the treasure can be distributed among party members, even it is an Ex item. If you are playing solo, the appraised item will be added directly to your inventory. If you do not have enough inventory space, you may be unable to receive the appraised item, so be sure to clear out your bag beforehand.

So if you find an unknown item while adventuring in a party, you can travel to town and have the item appraised together before disbanding. Perhaps the item you have been holding will turn out to be a fantastic find, and then you can all celebrate together!

Appraisers and mysterious items will be available with the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc!

... this might get annoying though. I sure hope they won't make HNM's drop "appraised" ex items in ToAU, 'cause that could seriously suck if the WHM got that godly tanking ring etc. And all because you didn't know what kind of item it was.

Now what'd -really- be interesting, is if the drop is actually determined by the job it's appraised on. For instance, ??? ring drops off ToAU HNM #4. A DRK takes it off to the appraiser, gets a kick-ass STR/Attack ring. The next day, drop goes to a WHM, and when he has it appraised, it turns into a MND/MP ring.

Well, it will most likely be random or some stupid shit like that <.<; Which means the majority of the items will be common like ants in a forest <.<; And that also means there's a 1/1000 chance to actually get a WORTHWHILE item XD

I think it'll mainly be for items dropped in Assault/Besieged, but who knows.

*cough* Suikoden copycat *cough*

Be kinda interesting though I spose... Always got all giddy when I got ??? pots and they turned out to be worth a lot of potch when I pawned em.

That shouldn't be a problem. The little bit at the end says that if you appraise an item while in a party it is added to the treasure pool. Therefore the leader of a LS could just take the item with different people and see who it would be good for.

Damn PSU getting delayed! Well, sorta..

I think it's a neat idea and might manage to keep parties together a little longer if they wait to get back to town before disbanding (assuming the drops don't soon develop a trend of total suckage).

Too bad it's not a skill players can learn.

"Two WHMs seeking same level ... grab the appraiser!"

Oh, I missed that part. Well, atleast something SE seem to be doing right <.<; Looks like they're learning

Very, very, interesting info this appraising is turning out to be. This could surely be a new means of getting Rare (Hard to Get) items.

Let's think for a moment.

1. X PT/Player finds a "??? club"...
2. Go to appraise it.
3. "After appraisal, your club turns out to be a Kraken Club"
4. b00m! 100+ million item falls right in your lap.

Could be incredible news for Treasure Hunting players all over VanaDiel. If the appraised item list goes all the way to include every item in the game. If not, maybe we will get better items out of this. Who knows, but it is certainly a great addition to the game experience. ^^

I say if they do put in items like the KC, which they won't lol, then they should make it pop out as a Rare/Ex version. That wouldn't exactly be fair. I guess nothing is fare though. I would hate to be in that party who lost out on a lot for a ???Club when it turns out to be a KC lol

I think it works like this, the ??? item will be r/ex at first, and someone gets, but when they appraise it, if they're in a party, it'll go into the party pool so people can lot on the appraised item, so people won't miss out on a lot for the ??? item, because after it's appraised they'll have a chance to lot on it or w/e. Although I can see leaders setting party pool to automatically go to them, then disbanding party and appraising items so they keep it ><

Sounds interesting... Getting rather excited over the new expansion. o_O

The way I read this is that "??? whatever" is not going to be rare/ex, and when you appraise an item, it goes to treasure. So for HNM that drops uber ring it would happen:

-??? Ring drops
-Someone lots it, and your entire group goes to the appraiser
-Person holding ??? Ring trades it
-Appraiser tells you what it is, and it goes into your party treasure pool
