Dead horse I know, but honestly how can people afford to undercut items by 40-50k at the AH? Were you dropped as a kid?

I had recently decided to go on a gear clearing spree and sell all of my gear that had nothing to do with my RNG or my THF. Which is ALOT of good stuff and head down to the old Jeuno AH to dump 7 items and bazaar the rest.

Astral rings have rose in price greatly since I had bought mine, recently going from 210k-225k with last one being sold at 225. Cool, I put up 3 of mine for 225k and head out to the Dunes to hunt the Emp while i waited.

Come back 2 hours later, none had sold, thinking damn no one wants them right now i guess....check PH and last price is 205k!!!

Now dont get me wrong, undercutting here and there by 1-5k is common practice and it happens...but over 15k on some items?? Are you fucking kidding me? People are that desperate or what?

I was so fucking pissed I put up a pair of Air solea for 10 gil and shouted it...they were bought in 2 seconds lol, go ahead check the PH...

So i thought about this, is there some sort of strategy Im missing? I can understand logging on a mule to buy back an item and help jack the price up, people do it all the time.

I can also understand a crafter doing it to lower the price for their materials, but why on gear? So of course an arguement ensues with some of the townsfolk about RIDICULOUS undercutting and of course i am added to a few more blacklists (big shock i know).

I just dont get it, please enlighten me. Right now there are about 5 things that thrill me in this game, and checking the PH and seeing someone get FUCKED because of their ruthless undercutting is one of them. (Some jackass named Genius just couldnt wait for his high level axe to sell and lost 2 or 3 million becuase of his undercutting on it wanting the next sale, god I laughed for 5 minutes on that one)

So the only thing I could muster was this is a practice of gil buyers who do not appreciate gil at all and can throw items up for sale at any price they want or just simply RIIIIICH people. God i remember when carrying around 2 to 3 million at all times was rich, i guess im just as broke as the next guy now...

Dunno bout you but I'm forced to sacrifice 20-50k+ on an undercut very often. It's not that big a deal.

Well not everyone is level 100 in leather pumping out amenent+1s and shit on a consistent basis....Somehow Im sure i can make a relevant argument out of this and how your in a different situation by being a high level crafter but i cant think of it lol....

Im humbled if 50k all the time is not a big deal.....

On things that are real expensive (a mil +) i can see an undercut of maybe 50k or so being acceptable but when you get undercut on stuff thats like 200k or something and it never fucking sells it really begins to frustrate you. Especially when you saw the earlier price and got all geeked cuz it was more expensive than when you bought it. This is the same thing that happened with my Ryl. Knights Mufflers, they were on sale for 3 days at 60k till i rechecked the price history and they had dropped 10k. I fucking hate some ppl.

Vang I have been wondering the same thing, I craft for a living or I try to. Black chocobo fletchings are break even at about 5000 gil. They where going for almost 6k then dropped to 5k solid on me. I am like ok fine w/e, I am lvling up and breaking even is nice, but some dipshits now have lowered the price to 3500 gil.... Same thing happened to insect fletchings, I was making craploads selling em for 1200, mine would sell out 4-5 times a day, bow they are going for 500 which is practicaly a loss. The stupidity of people amazes me, if you are going to undercut do not drag the price down you stupid pieces of shit, learn supply and demand. I swear to God an economics class should be mandatory before ppl are allowed to play this game.

Vang, I'll bet you're a sandorian, aren't you?

ONLY IN SANDORIA will you have 108 FREAKING STACKS of wind crystals WITH 66 Freaking wind clusters and the price goes UP.

In that instance Direwolf all i can say is they must be powerleveling a craft....what drives that? Gil buying 90% of the time....I think it comes down to some gil buyers wanting to at least be smart (irony) about spending RL money on the game so they "Invest" into a craft....

Viciously climbing their way up through skill up points they sell whatever they make at any price they can to get rid of it, thus fucking honest crafters over in the end.

But gear? I just dont get it.....PEOPLE WANT astral rings, PEOPLE WILL PAY 225k for one...but some dumbass just HAS to have his 205k in 20 minutes rather than waiting a day and making 20k more for doing nothing but letting it sit on the block.....

I could say the same thing about fletchings people need arrows, where would a RNG be without arrows?!! But alas you are right its the people powerlvling clothcraft that are messing me up, saw some dud buying silk cloth at 47k a stack to make green ribions and lvl up... I was making my stacks for 25-30k when I did it and groaning about the loss to the LS constantly. But yea what do they care in the end, they are stupid enough to spend real life money buying gil from gil sellers then buying the shit the gil sellers farm so the gil sellers can sell the gil again to the craft PLers...yea...that realy makes sense...

Though on the plus side I was able to make a few stacks of silk cloth to sell to the PLs, they hurt me more in the long run, was so damn close to being able to make and sign my own Vermilion cloak. >.<

Perhaps many other people are doing what I've been doing the last week or so. I've been selling off all my gear at discount prices. I gave away all my big-ticket items, so you won't see me under-cutting anything by 50k, but there could be some people who are leaving the game that have.

I disagree. Sometimes you just need to get rid of your stuff. In leveling woodworking, arrows were nice because you could quiver them. Then came scorpions. Here I am with 36 stacks of scorpion arrows, I track all the way to windy to get them quivered only to find out you cant quiver them. Grrrr. What the hell do you do? you undercut! Sorry fact of life. I agree with the eq, but crafting materials? Another scenario is where crafters can HQ a stack where others only can do a few at a time. This is how I make money now. Ill HQ a stack of an item, undercut slightly and fill the AH, wait for them to sell quick and do it again.

Kelsiv.. your .. alive.. You still play FFXI.. all of SoTL though you quit the game O.o

Maybe some people are also scared of the upcoming update. With all the "auction fee being proportional to the reserve amount", there might be those ready to sell at lower prices making sure their item sell in time.

Then again, we still don't know how much that proportinal fee will be in comparison to the price of high-end equipment. It's funny how the masses come to panic at the slightiest announcements.

"Oh my god! They are nerfing Ninjas! They won't be able to tank anymore!"

Alanon you are doing this for profit... there is not a chance in all HELL that you can make gil offa black Chocbo fletchings for 3.5k a pack, that is a huge loss considering the lvl to HQ them regularly is about 100 and each faether costs a minimum of 1000 on AH 1150 at a shop, and it requires 4 feathers to make a stack...

Whoever mentioned people liqudating charachters may have a point there, that could definetly explain the flooding of "elite" items lately.

If the elite items are being liquidated, could this be in response to the possible AH price changes to put an item up? I haven't heard exactly what the percentage is going to be but even 1% of 800k is a lot of freakin money to just put the item up for sale. People may want to be getting rid of their items now instead of later after the reorganization.

So why not buy the undercut item and immediately put it up on auction at the sale price of the one you've got? In the case of those Astrals, you just made 20+k for less than a minute's work.

I did, actually. Just haven't canceled my account yet. Still selling off all my stuff to spread a little wealth around(though it's not much).
