Are you fucking kidding me

Why doesn't anyone ever get angry at sickle cells for being racist?

I've decided to not quote people, but I'll throw my thoughts out there.

Mostly, while I don't agree with Dej or his reference entirely, I understand why they'd jump on it. This Country has made such a big deal about racism and affirmative action that creating any racial divide should never come up.

I do agree that trying to figure out the how/why is very important however. The problem here is how to proceed. Maybe this was the best idea they could come up with. But it sounds to me like the changes should start simply in how the school (and I would say all schools) handle their students.

Ultimately, Hexx brings up the biggest issue this country has when it comes to race. And really it's not limited to race, it's especially true of the post-baby boomer generations and gets worse every generation. That problem is the feeling of deserved vs earned. Not everyone has it, but it's there. I admittedly learned a little bit on this the hard way. The "racial" aspect of this is all of these ideas that non-minorities get all these things automatically where minorities don't. They use that as excuse to demand (and far too often get) handouts. It's created this reverse-racism that causes others to coddle minorities where there isn't racial injustices. This willingness to bend over backwards leads to the belief and fact that simply put squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Schools would be a great place to start adjusting this attitude. One example is make the kids earn their grade by mostly in class work. I commend that teacher who failed most of her students. Having such a high fail rate put her job at risk based on today's system.

"Equity Team" reminds me of this:

I would be outrageously offended if I were one of the minorities affected by this. Are they trying to say that minorities aren't good enough to live by the rules of the majority?

Which oddly enough gives us a good idea of where we're headed. Look at how the farm started, class. Can anyone point out any similarities between the book and the direction we've been heading in?

Which is exactly what the policy said it would do. If the percentages seem too high, find out what the problem is and solve it. You're taking the school's side. I applaud you.

How do you propose we go about solving a cultural issue, comrade?
Although, the issue is much deeper than that, and cannot be fixed with a band-aid. We need a complete overhaul.

I wouldn't presume to even begin to try to solve a New Mexico school's problems with race. It sounds like they're doing what they think they need to do. I live far, far away from them in The Heart of Whiteness, aka West Virginia, where we have our own problems.

Incestuous, banjo playing mountain people? They found a cure, you know:

But as they say, you can lead a horse to water...

(On a side note, I really have no idea why I've been picking on you lately. Please don't take it personal.)

Hey, those banjo pickers were in GEORGIA! :P

Don't worry. I don't take it personally.

Maybe somewhere in the multiverse there exists a universe wherein all those incestuous, banjo-playing people look like the girl who is the WVU mascot. I would definitely trade this redneck land for that one!

There are so many simple solutions to these issues. The problem is no one in the government wants to do it. A good example is offer a stipend or time = poprty tax for elderily. They could then work in the class rooms without losing their benifits. This would give teachers valuable help with the large classes they must teach. At the sametime it will help the elderly keep their homes and earn a bit of cash that would not count against them. Hell you have have multiple places they could help out at. Libraries, parks, afterschool care.

Problem is many in government do not want to do these things. Nor do they wanna you know take a pay cut. There is also a divide between admin and teachers. Many do not give a damn what the teachers think nor say. Odd since the teachers deal with the students everyday.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record; The federal government should have no part in this, IT IS NOT THEIR JOB.

These solutions are for a state level. Any state can do these. Property tax is a state tax. But why pay 1/4 the costs when you can just hire a unoin member who requires pay raises even if they do nothing. Think about it. Many elderly live on a limited income. Offering them a way to pay their property tax or earn a small stipen would help them in many ways. even if it is just maybe $150~200 a month it would help them pay for medicine, food, and things they need. Since it would be a stipen it is not counted as earned income.

lol, as he said...he was referring to State and Local government, anyone with any knowledge whatsoever of the political process would recognize that.

Its actually not a bad idea, although it might be a tad difficult to implement and regulate. Wouldn't be an option in all areas, but here in Florida there is a fuck ton of old people.

Well it makes sense to do it. It can not be much harder then it is to implement and regulate first to work program. I bet the same people could do it. After all many would be on some state or federal help. It would not be a hand out since these people would be working. This would help many whose pride will not let them be given things. These people have decades of work experience. Even if they have disabilities, they can do something that will give them a sense of being. Volunteer X amount of hours so you do not have to pay a few thousand in property tax? or have to pay that on limited income?
