Exactly what would you have called it before that? When people were burning effigy's of Pres Bush in the street and releasing books and even movies about the assassination of Pres Bush. was that not dangerous/violent political rhetoric?
(let me guess, that was different because Bush actaully deserved it right?)
Nope, it was still inappropriate violent rhetoric. "But he did it too!" is no excuse. But never the less, the face of the Left isn't someone looking for confrontation. The face of the Right
is, and it's their own fault for letting it get that way that they have to do all this dancing around the issue and completely wiping out comments and entire websites in an attempt to backpedal away from the blame for how things have gotten in the political theater. With the Left, the fringe is alienated. With the Right, the moderates are the alienated group.
If this should raise any political questions, it should be what hole in the system allowed a man this OBVIOUSLY insane to legally purchase a handgun. Everyone in this mans life has come out of the woodwork saying he was completely insane and dangerous, his teachers, classmates, and people that knew him. Why was this man given a license to carry this handgun?
Before we go reforming Gun Laws(even though, as an owner and merchant of firearms, I believe there needs to be work,) why don't we start with reform in Mental Health Care? Awareness and Care for the Mentally Ill in America is abysmally low. This is part of the reason why nobody tried to either reach out to him, or get him some help in the first place when he was exhibiting signs of a mental issue. The reason he was able to legally purchase a handgun is because there was no record of having been deemed mentally ill in the first place...
I do believe in the 2nd amendment, but why cant we have a requirement for someone to atleast TALK to mental health professional before given a license, or atleast give a list of references to be contacted to vouch that your not a nutcase reading mien kampf
many states already require you undergo training for safely using firearms, why not a mental checkup as well?
...it's costly and "MY TAX DOLLARS!"/"Smaller Government" from the Right is usually an issue with passing most legislation like this. Not to mention how any kind of firearms-related legislation, no matter how minor, is always touted as an all-out ban by the Right Wing. Maryland is one of the biggest states(Behind Cali/NY/NJ/Illinois) against firearms ownership, and our course is just a video to watch with no hands on training. You even do this from home, on a website set up by the Maryland State Police. I can't imagine any state besides one of those four listed requiring much more beyond what we do here.
And reading Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto does not automatically make you crazy, fascist, or communist, nor does "liking" these books for the profound insight in to the minds of Marx and Hitler they provide. College courses, especially PoliSci, usually recommend these books.
