Yea, this may not exactly be the place to be asking this type of stuff, but as everyone here comes from a variety of different backgrounds and has different sets of knowledge...anyways, w/e. And apologizes for the block-o text.

Just recently, as in just after I came home from visiting my parents, I sat down at my pc, and noticed this faint pain in my right arm. Normally shit like this goes away in a few minutes, so I ignored it (well, I got some extra padding for my chair where my arm rests). But it persisted, and has gotten worse. Now, as I have no knowledge of the names of the bones in my arm, but I can describe fairly accurately where it hurts. Pretty much located just below the center joint in my arm. Take your left hand, and place it on your right arm just so the pinky (do I know the proper term for that finger? hell no, but this is obvious enough) finger is resting right on the knob of the joint, and there's the pain spot, right in the center of your hand. Normally I ignore minor pains while using the computer, as they crop up after long sessions, but damnit, I sat down just a few hours ago. It's not like I've some poor ergonomic position either, I had done my research into that stuff last year for college, and my mother's line of work deals with that, so I'm fairly versed in proper positions for computer work.
Nothing else hurts either, no pain in my left arm, nothing in either hands, just this persistent feeling of "ow I just slammed my arm into the wall right on the joint" pain. And no, I did not slam my arm into the wall. Currently it hurts regardless of whatever position I hold it in, but it goes into overdrive the moment I attempt to hold my mouse normally. And that sucks, because I am 95% right handed. The only thing my left hand can do it type on the left hand side of the keyboard, and mash the WASD keys during 1-st person shooters.

And after typing this my upper right arm feels little numb, which concerns me, and my arm hurts even more now, which is setting off warning bells in my brain.

Medical advice anyone?

I would suggest seeing a doctor. I know I know, crazy huh?

shooting pain in the arm im told is usually signs of a heart attack...but thats only moments before it happends

see a doctor

Depending on the type of pain can mean alot of different things. I help my parents all the time with their pain presentations. If it is a stabbing/shooting pain in your arm it is very possible that there is some nerve damage. Did you do any lifting at your parents or excessive masturbation could also cause this haha.

If its more of an ache it could be a problem like a weak bone or a something wrong with a muscle in that area.

Nothing more can really be determined without an examination. Especially because i can't really tell what part of your arm with how you described it.

I.E. See your doctor if the problem persists (it could be that you slept on it funny and just needs a little bit) and definitly if it gets worse.

That's usually left side, and not only in 1 spot in the arm. Its usually the whole arm. Or atleast that's what I'm told <.<

Stay away from your PC (and anything else that strains that arm) for a couple of days. If it doesn't feel any better then go to a doctor. Hope you feel better, Set. :)

Partial numbness and that "funny-bone" feeling is usually a sign of some sort of pinched or damaged nerve. Best to see a doctor to make sure though.

Sounds like tennis elbow, but your gut instinct is probably right. It's hard to tie numbness to tennis elbow. Where the numbness is on your arm is pretty important. True arm (shoulder to elbow) and even forearm (elbow to almost your wrist) numbness doesn't ring right with the story without thinking about rare cool things. I would have expected pinky and ring finger numbness if any numbness with the story.

Nothing to worry about, but appt time.
This isn't your heart.

Or cut it off. That'll stop the pain for good once it's healed up lol.

While thats true im sure the operation to either cut it off or the clean up your homemade cut would cost a bit more than some physical therapy.

Heart attack would be the left arm feeling pain.

*edit* Blah, misread the OP. Was going to suggest that it might be Carpal Tunnel, I don't believe it can extend that far out from the wrist area...if it's closer to the elbow then it sounds as if Golfer/Tennis Elbow or pinched nerve would be the most likely culprit.

Your forearm? Or your upperarm?

Geez didn't they teach this stuff in kindergarden? Thumb, index, middle, Ring, and pinky finger?

Anyway sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. It'll only get worse if it is that. And the only way to cure it, is to stop doing the repitive motions that caused it in the first place. Left as is without rest, you'll start to lose feeling, get numb, tingly feeling, all the way to the point where you will either have pain all day and night long, bad bad pain, or no feeling at all in the arm, finger, hand, etc.... And surgery will be needed.

A good way to get around it is use the mouse with the other hand till it heals, change to an entirely new different sized desk and sit in an entirely new position. Being stupid and ignoring it could leave you with no feeling in the hand, or sleepless nights with a twitching pain in your arm.

That is of course if it is Carpal Tunnel Syndrom.

While that's the most common presentation, if pain shoots at all in a heart attack it doesn't have to go left. Heart pain can go to right arm, jaw, shoulder, belly, and back. In addition, any internal injury at the level of the heart can send pain shooting down arms--even something silly like acid reflux. It's a consequence of the inside of your body not having good pain detection, so internal stuff has to share signals. All that combined makes the classic left arm pain one of the least useful characteristics to say that someone's had a heart attack. Which sucks.
:?

If it is carpal tunnel and ya meant wrist, then do this for 5 minutes:

If it reproduces the pain, you win hand bracers!

Their primary purpose is to embarass you enough that you'll cut back typing in fear of being laughed at while wearing them.

Huh, a post of mine actually got some attention (even if it got semi-derailed by the second page). The pain went away on its own, after sleeping on it to see what I should do about it/waiting a few days. Now its back to its standard "bony elbows + no arm padding = irritating".

Still get that checked out. That sounds like there could be worse damage there then you know of, or even any of us. Chances are the pain could come back, and may even be worse. Trust me on any sort of pains don't wait them out. I made that mistake with a sever pull in my back that turned into a pull and a strain. I waited two months to go to the doctor thinking nothing of it then I started having spasms. That is when I went to the doctor. One of the worse pains I have ever had were those spasms that I screamed out one day in class with how badly my back hurt.

Learn from me set the appointment a.s.a.p if the pain increases any.
