fine, I too am a bit of an asian cinema buff . . .

I loved the visual direction Hero took as a film what with the clever use of colour and what not, and on an artistic level I liked it far more than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

I plan on catching House of Flying Daggers while it's still around in the the theaters, because I know if I put it off for too long it will be another scenario like Zatoichi and Ghost in the Shell: Innocence where it slips away before I have a chance to see it.

oh yes, and I have a man crush on Donnie Yen as he kicks way to much ass . . . Iron Monkey anyone?? Not to mention his motion capture work with Onimusha 3: Demon Siege.

Hrmmm . . . what else can I go on about, I didn't see the big appeal of Ichi the Killer, I had heard a lot of good things about it, but didn't enjoy it even just on an ultra-violent level.

that usefull enough for you??

Ahhh yes, Donnie Yen as Wong Fei Hungs father Wong Kei Ying.
Iron monkey (in its original HK form) is a masterpiece.
Besides Donnie, it also has another of my fave actors, Yu-rong guong :)

Oh the movies that could be listed off...... just so many movies.

Well, Chinese wise,

1. Love on a Diet is a good comedy. I love Sammi Cheng and Andy Lau.
2. Shaolin Soccer was easily a good comedy when it came out in Chinese. Dubbed in english, its not so good.
3. Once upon a time in China, A good Jet Li movie in the olden days. A little dated.
4. A Comrade's Love Story. A good drama with Leon Lai and Maggie Cheung. I don't know... maybe I just like love stories as there's another Korean movie below I like.

Japanese....

1. Ju-On... the original version of the Grudge. Sarah Michelle Gellar, please don't destroy any more Japanese remakes.
2. Hmm...can't think of any others at the moment. I know there's more though.

Korean.

1. The Classic. This has got to be one of my favorite movies ever. I'll probably end up overhyping it but I just like this movie a lot. It's a love story.
2. My Sassy Girl. Another comedy.
3. My Tutor Friend. (I'm not entirely sure of this title)
4. Volcano High, If you've ever played the game Rival Schools.... now think about it kind of in a movie..lol.

Those are just the movies at the top of my head I really like. I'll probably end up listing more when they come. I'm quite a nerd when it comes to asian movies because I have a friend obsessed with getting lots of movies from Asia.

Ichi The Killer scared me.
Hero is a masterpiece.
CTHD was cool.
I think these are the only movies I've seen that qualify.

:\ what, where are the South Korean New Wave Cinema picks?

Some top directors for me would have to be...
Wong Kar Wai
Takashi Miike
Stephen Chow
Shinji Aoyama
Chan Wook Park

My recent pick would probably go to "Last Life In the Universe" a Thai Directed movie featuring Cameos by Miike and some of his gang and also staring Tadanobu Asano (Kakihara from Ichi) Cinematography by Christopher Doyle (WKW and HERO fame.) Great movie, caught it recently at a multiplex in HK, but it was released around 2003. Stephen Chow's new one "Kung Fu Hustle" was also quite fun.

I love Ziyi movies. She is so attractive!

My favorite movie at the moment is House of Flying Daggers.
Second is Couching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Somehow, in some weird Twilight Zone moment, House of Flying Daggers actually found its way to small town West Virginia long enough for me to see it listed and get a ticket. It's not as visually stunning as Hero, though it does have some moments, but the emphasis on the characters made it feel like a better, more complete film. And of course the plot. It's a shame if they edited it for the squeamish among us. They can always go across the hall and see Meet the Fockers.
