Been keeping an eye on the prices of that over the last few days. There were usually 6 or 7 of them in AH at any one time. AH history showed sales of between 150-160k. I tried to buy several times going up to max of 170k with no luck. I now notice that all the assault earring have been sold in last 2 hours and all of them at 350k +

Just checked again more closely. All the sales were done by a variety of names I've not heard of and all in a 30 minute time period.

Let them lose the tax

Just a heads up.

eh it is prolly just some people that crossed servers. If you look on www.ffxiah.com it will show that most other servers have them going for 300k. Quetzalcoatl is one of the few servers that its fairly cheap, or was.

I just did a little investigation of my own...
Hanicat, Grammer, Airelle, Tsuga, Dudley, Askuaa, Woltet, Hagmos, Xicoro, Komya, Pikorg, Amitage, Gimo... I'm sure there's more, that's just a handful.
I'm seeing a pattern here. Look at their look-ups on FFXIAH. You'll find some very disturbing findings. Is it possible to report these and more to SE for intentional inflation of prices?
This is not something that's mere coincidence.

Its not SEs fault that people are stupid with money. People are free to sell at whatever price people see fit. Nothing that can or will be done.

Perhaps I should point a few things out.. if you look closely at the names I gave out, along with a few others.. You'll see that it's not people being stupid with their money, in a general sense.
From the looks of it, RMT are trying to push up the prices of various high-demand items in an attempt to gain money. If you are one of the people who typically sells these items, heavily undercut them to return prices back to normal. They may end up undercutting you, but in the long run, it helps the economy overall. Yes, it may hurt you by having to lose 20k if they end up putting theirs at 130k or so rather than 150k on an Assault Earring. But would you rather end up paying the higher price on an item you want as well, or pay the lower, more stable one?
I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that in a game like this.. you really do have to look at things in a broader sense when you go with the jacked-up price like this. I know that QCDN only covers a minute portion of our server's population, but in situations like this, word can easily be spread around one way or another. It's just a matter of whether or not people are willing to actually take the time to let others know that 'Hey, these guys are hurting the economy. Keep prices low so they don't stay in business.' Show them we don't want them around. I know I'm repeating myself here.. but yes, chances are, they will severely undercut you in return. But that's why you just keep the prices at a steady rate as best as you can without letting them get to you.
Situations like this are a mental game that requires patience and focus. You have to keep yourself from becoming to frustrated and enraged. They know how to play the game and screw our economy up for their own personal gain. Is that what we want to give them? Or will we fight back, spreading the word to let people know to continue to keep the prices steady, regardless of how they decide to fight us? If SE can't do anything about it, that's when we have to sit, think, and come up with a way to alleviate this problem.

Edit 1: Yes, I know I'm a bit of a optimistic theorist on this matter, but I can't help it. I'm tired of people just saying 'nothing that can be done about it'. There is something that can be done, but no one wants to do it.

Edit 2: Heading to bed for now... wonder what this will look like tomorrow...

I called a GM on the matter, because they're buying up the flame rings, penitent's ropes, fuma sune-ate(the item I wanted), Assault earrings, Merman's earrings, Sniper's, woodsman... Go check the lists, it's all the same group. Don't let them take advantage of us! D: revolt! Hold out on buying stuff until they drop it back down in their own.

Edit: The GM said that they don't patrol the economy, so I would have to submit a report to the Special lolTask Force... so I did. Oh well, it's up to us to stop the RMT it seems. Let the MPK begin.

I'm not positive if there are any rules against hoarding items and reselling them for a higher price. However, it is probably legitimate because this has been going on for years; among rmt and legitimate players alike. The only way I can see any of them being banned, is if they are botting the auction house to immediately buy the low selling items.

Beggers can't be choosers.

I'm not buying one until I feel happy with price. I can use Storm Loop that has same attack but without the 2 acc. Funny thing was, is that there were 3-4 sold at 150k over last 4-5 days by legit people, but obviously this group that were jacking prices up may have bought them and doubled up their price.

A few weeks back I needed to buy an assault earring and this SAME thing happened. Same names too. :/ I broke down and bought it when it dropped to 250k because it looked like it wasn't going any lower than that. Then a week later it was back to its original price of 150k. :banghead3: Now it looks like they are trying it again. -_-

I think this is something we should let the STF know about.

Well if we all write in reports about the same people, I'm sure they'll have to go "Wtf?" and... you know, look into what they're doing.

maybe theyre trying to bring back xmas 2005, prices were high both rmt and players alike made a killing... If it happens it happens....

2006 everyone was trying to buy stuff up to cash in on inflation (damn that time sucked). and since it didnt happen it loos like people are trying to kick start it this time. capitalism at its best.

Well, I personally wouldn't mind if you could once again make gil off of BCNM/KSNM drops... But not at the expense of using the RMT to our own advantage, while still allowing them to profit.

I remember Christmas '05 back on my old server. -shudders.- I also remember when the Royal cloak(HQ) was worth LESS than the Vermillion cloak there. That was always a laugh. Ah, memories...

we one big reason things aren't worth as much as they used to be is cause there are a shitload more lvl 75 jobs now then back then. people already have most of the stuff that high lvls went after. both the buyers and the legit players. they can price jack all they want. it'll drop back down in time.

Um, this isn't violating any rule whatsoever.

True

But it's better to be aware that it's happening. If you hold tight a few days you'll save yourself 200k or so... which is a lot of beehive chips.

My intention was to do a 'heads up'.

This isn't an example of capitalism ftw. This is an intentional market failure.

A good free market assumes competitive pricing which then requires knowledge of aggregate supply and demand. An obstruction of the pricing such as RMTs randomly fixing a price is just that. Price fixing. By blotting out all normal consumers they set the prices to whatever they wish and the market will react accordingly in either a scarcity if it is a ceiling or a surplus if it is a floor. In any case however price fixing is not an element of a good free market in the classical liberal sense and such externalities are more akin to a more invasive economic system. In any case this should not be deemed horrible as people will only buy it if they are willing, there is no coersion involved. It just means they have less of a consumer surplus but in the end it is a 'fair deal.'

Telling people not to buy at these prices is just as stupid as telling them to do so. People only buy what they are willing to pay for. The market then adjusts accordingly: either the RMT sell their wares or they don't and have to eat nice AH taxes. In the end there is nothing unjust about what they are doing, its the same as the idiot who tries to sell a bone earing for 100k.

...i agree with the MPKing tho. @*()%& RMT.

*2. Use of synthesis and auction houses for RMT
Actions involving selling large quantities of in-game items for gil, which is then traded for real money.

*3. RMT
"Real Money Trading." Selling game data for real money.

This is from the report on 9/25/07 http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11us/detail/2348/detail.html

I'd say that #2 would vaguely cover this issue.

After reading through this thread, it would appear that most people are merely passing this off as a simple 'temporary price increase'. However, as several have put it, this is not just temporary. This is something they are doing to permanently hurt the economy. In the long run, this and more of what they do will end up destroying the game that we all (hopefully) enjoy (to a decent degree).
Gatttsu, the quote from the Special Task Force is greatly appreciated. Perhaps would anyone be willing to help look through the FFXIAH and find the perpetrators? I've already done a little looking (see earlier post). Maybe with a little help, we can end this.. perhaps not immediately, but steadily.. and eventually, permanently.
